My late mother's fave group. Brings tears to my eyes hearing it. Just missed them in concert near me last month. So nice that they're still around and sounding better than ever. Won't miss them next time that's for sure!!!

What more can one state---"outstanding." Forty seven years later, and it's like the Jarmels recording, "A Little Bit Of Soap" is being heard for the first time. Doo-Wop, the greatest souding music to one's ear.

If you can sound as great as this nearly 50 years after the first recording you have proven to be up there with the very best. I can not see this being done by any of nowadays "artists" and I would like to use this label very lightly. True artists the Jarmels are!!!!!!

I played with them shortly in the 90's as they were preparing a comeback. They were hometown heros who had a moment in the spotlight of fame. Tommy told me when I asked him how it happened stated :They were known for singing on the corners of Ricmond Va. And a Jewish record producer was told to look them up because they were good. They recorded their hit atop a downtown store in RVA on tape soon after the rest is history.

I see Ray Barnett and Tom Eldridge the original members of the Jarmels. These faces bring back some great memories. They are now gone but their music and images live on and the fact that I knew them is wonderful and they will be remembered until I'm gone. Funny, I know most of the lyrics to their songs without reading them anywhere, wow.

Gilltorres, Thanks for handling the facts, I knew them all except for Nat Ruff. Ray is now the only living member left. He restarted the Jarmels and they are presently performing. Did you know that after the Jarmels disbaned, they formed a group called the "IMPACTS" who performed during the late 60's and early 70's. They were of course, "AWESOME"

What I think is best is that the backup music doesn't overwhelm the featured singer. It just compliments. Not like the music today, sometimes you can't hear the featured singer at all.

It's kind of sad that doo wop -- or any 50's and early 60's music -- is pretty much gone from radio station playlist. This music, the close vocal harmonies, can be appreciated by everyone--not just those of us who grew up with it.

These groups from the 50's and early 60's sang because they loved to sing..money came second to most of those groups and like everything else in life many were screwed out of most of their earnings. Many earned less in a lifetime of performing than one concert date for the groups today that have to have their music censored. Horrible but true and that is the difference. Those groups will live on forever and today's groups are only as good as their last song.....

Tony are you sure about their ages? I think they were older than that here.
@ELVISISKING10008 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the mistake and thank you for the correction. The late-great Paul Burnett was born in 1942 and died in 2001, making him 59-years-old when he died. The late-great Tom Eldridge was born in 1941 and he died in 2000, making him 59-years-old when he died. They both looked older than their ages but their birth years are the info that I have to go by for them for this musical memorial. Yours in harmony, Tony Jams.

gilltorres is CORRECT, This is Paul Burnett the original lead singer of the Great JARMELS singing in this video along with the original Base, Tom Eldridge wearing the Captains Cap. As of now, the only living and original JARMEL is Ray Smith. Ray has revived the famed quintet. The JARMELS are again successfully touring. The lead singer that you speak of is Tyrone Thomas, A.K.A. "Little Tommy”, a local and well known entertainer in Richmond VA, he is NOT a member of the original JARMELS.
