I find that a good rule of thumb to adjust these vises is to start with the cam arm in a straight line with the jaw. Then nsert the hook and turn theJaw adjusting screw until you feel the jaws JUST touch the hook Finally, rotate the Cam Arm up till it's parallel with the angle of the arm that holds the Jaw . This method takes the fiddling around out of adjustment for the tying I do on size 16-3/0 hooks. hth
