For us REAL Cherokee owners/enthusiast there is only 1 model of Cherokee. That's the XJ. BTW mine is a 1996 SE 4.0 ax15(manual 5 speed) 4 door, All factory baby.

Great review, I have a 99 Jeep Cherokee Sport 2 door 4x2 with 345,000 on the original engine and trans. Still going strong. Its a daily driver that I take to other states because of my work.

My 97 has 253k on it an it still runs like a scalded dog! Im glad mine has the chrysler 8.25 29 spline diff in the rear. Nothing fancy. Its a log wagon but always dependable!

Yeah... I wouldn't replace my daily 79 F150 straight 6 4x4, nor my 98 XJ for anything really.... everything else is lame. ;)~ (ok... maybe if a 67 Bronco rolled up..... )

Well done. I love my old XJ painted in dark factory purple. I paid $1,000 for it a couple years ago with low miles playing within the last week or two was offered 3,000 and I just recently found a set of four old new stock wheels and tires with center caps from a car dealership that does in-house upgrades. They had a back room full of wheels and tires. The rims still have the yellow factory PSI sticker on one spoke

the BIG loss is what the JEEP Name was and what it many the Name JEEP to some one in the 1930s and early 40s many some thing and the JOKE is on most to day that have no Idea the name is an Acronym where the letters do not fit but sounds like and is a Character of an old Cartoon Called JEEP and last if some one got Jipped for some thing Cheep the term used was that was a JEEP this Name stuck because the Boys going to War Knew the meaning and this was lost in the modern English

My stock 99 TJ (manual) gets 21mpg. My 95 xj country (auto) abou 18mpg. Not great, but not terrible.

On that seat belts being different from front to rear (since it's a 96 they were starting to use the newer body style interior parts on the 96s when they ran out of the older) always seem mismatched lol

It’s value has already shot up. Excellent ones are going for $10k $15k heck even $20k. You can still find rough or decent shape xj’s for pretty cheap. I bought my 2001 Cherokee xj with some rust holes overall pretty decent shape for $3200. I’ve found plenty of decent xj for $1500-$2000-$3000. Maybe around $5k if modified. I remember 2.5 yrs ago. I’d see decent xj’s for around $1k but their values have definitely gone up.

you must have seen/smelled/ the smog & yellow cloud coming out of it- You should drive a 300 mile range electric suv feel the torque/power - Breath in the fresh air around it- I jus sold my 210000 04 prius that averaged 45 - got a 2020 prius front wheel drive LE beach/mountain cruiser, thats no bs averaging 62MPG in 40 degree weather- rides nicer/quieter than the 04- I agree some old cars r kool/nostolgic THX MR- keep the faith
