Do yourself a favor and buy the CD. The liner notes include lyrics, Inuktitut lessons, and the artists' description of what the songs mean to them. Truly a gift.

Admittedly, as someone from the United States, I found out because of them because I wanted to do research on television shows from the Arctic. I stumbled across Anaana's Tent, and I found out the theme song was by this band. I fell in love with them immediately! Hello from New York!

I've heard of The Jerry Cans before, but my first experience at hearing their music was when they performed "Ukiuq" for CBC's New Year's Eve celebration. I'm currently obsessed with this song! Everything about it just makes me want to dance, and I'm determined to pick up the words so I can sing along in full glory. Amazing music!

The leader singer's face in this makes me happy. You can just see how much he is feeling this music. I listen to my CD by them a lot when I am feeling down and need to invest in some more. I identify with their aim as artists in trying to use their art to help people through suffering. I saw them at Bluesfest and hope to again some day.

Music came from indigenous peoples from all over the world throughout history. This is undeniable. Just because some people don't identify with it or understand it doesn't mean it doesn't belong. Language and style through indigenous influence can be put into ANY style of Music. You name it. Jazz, rock, funk, reggae country, etc. When Nancy throat sings in those songs, it takes the song to another level of communication. There is depth and meaning to that. A song within a song. Multiple layers of expression. Music, no matter how it is produced, is about communication through sound, expression and feel no matter if it comes from a persons throat, hands, feet or from an instrument.

That is why Kanata, is Canada. World stage? . Take care of 'your own'. That means.....' the 'ones' who were here first!!!! Because, they are beyond it, they play it off. And always will be. The Jerry Cans know it. 14 years old and my Pops took us to Mossonee, on the shores of the Hudson/James Bay. Met and played with the local 'kids'. Changed my life and ideas. I love what has been! And still, will be!!!
