Happy Halloween! I should mention that this movie is based on short film(s) that were posted on YT in 2016. That's still 3 years after All Hallow's Eve and one year after its sequel, so my comments on it being an "Art the Clown clone" still stand. It's cool to know it was a passion project for so long. The jester was three fantastic short horror films and unfortunately they removed the best aspects about the jester. Which was the fact he never technically harmed any of his victims sure sometimes his actions ended up with the victims harmed but he himself never harmed them just using magic to mess around with people. Also in the short horror films he didn't ever deliberately hunt people down he'd put on a performance to people and if they applauded he'd leave them alone. If they didn't he'd put on a different performance which would always end with the person being the victim of disappearing act. The jester in this movies doesn't really act like the jester from the short horror films and i hope one day they'll go back and make a better adaptation unfortunately that doesn't seem likely. :(
@Taybrian12 ай бұрын
I knew something felt off about this! The Jester felt like a character that would thrive with a much better script and if they stopped trying to imitate the Terrifier movies. I love the idea of a chaotic villain who just wants attention. It feels more like folklore or a Japanese yokai. (Haven't seen them myself but I have a good idea of them. Not a gore hound.)

Yeah I remember the shorts way back then. This shit is weak and tries to ape Art The Clown way too much. F+ for fail hard.
@oliverholmes-gunning537213 күн бұрын
I remember watching and really liking the Jester shorts years ago, the feature film was all the more disappointing because of how good the source material was... I love the Terrifier franchise (T3 is by far my favourite movie of this year), but the reason those movies work so well is because of the unbridled passion Damien Leone clearly has for the genre and its history, the firm commitment to old-school practical effects, David Howard Thornton's mindblowing performance and unique insight into every little detail of the character of Art, and the beautifully creative kills that rival anything out of even the most iconic slasher movies. Trying to achieve the same magic with a cash-grab rehash of a popular horror short was always going to fall flat, especially since the filmmakers were clearly far less interested in pushing boundaries than they were in making bank (unlike the Terrifier team, who turned down a number of very lucrative studio offers for T3 and stayed independent because they knew they would be forced to compromise their vision as the execs inevitably got cold feet- especially about the opening scene lol). They (the Jester guys I mean) really should have done their own thing rather than trying to have their cake and eat it by trying to make a Terrifier ripoff that necessarily had to be completely neutered in order to appeal to mainstream, popcorn horror audiences rather than genre aficionados. One thing I will give it props for is the vanishing head kill. It wasn't perfectly executed (cgi will never achieve the same visceral impact as practical sfx no matter how polished or perfected), but it was nonetheless a very original and memorable idea that fit in well with the Jester's characterisation.
@AlexOlinkiewicz2 ай бұрын
For those that don't know The Jester started out as a trilogy of short YT videos and while they where pretty simple they honestly worked pretty well. Think one of the issues with this film is the budget and I don't mean that the budget was too low. I think one of the aspects that made The Jester work was it was made with almost no budget so the creators had to work within their limitations and couldn't use any practical effects. Of course, now that the creators had a budget they fell on simple gory kills which makes him an Art The Clown rip-off rather than the character that the shorts made him out to be.
@ambiivert-h7j2 ай бұрын

Jester is missing an identity and passion. Art is iconic because he's easily recognizable. Even if you've never heard of or seen a Terrifier film, you'll probably remember Art's design if you see it, even if you don't know his name. Art is also sickeningly chaotic neutral. He could either be the sweetest person you've ever met, or the worst nightmare of your entire life... and the worst part is that you can never truly know what he's up to, even if it's obvious that he's gonna kill or disfigure someone. If anyone can perfectly represent a Gömböc dice, I think it would absolutely be Art the Clown.
