It's my understanding that many monks of Mount Athos say "Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me." And I've read that many monks in Russia say "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner." With prayer and the help of your spiritual father/mother, find the words that are best for you.

@@OrthodoxWisdom not true the monks on Mt. Athos say " Lord Jesus Christ Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner" or name the person they are praying for. They also say "Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy" prayers or just the holy name of " Jesus" . I have never heard them say just half the prayer like this. All in love my brother.

To easy any worry, this can be said in whatever way brings you the deepest sense of peace. Before the Jesus Prayer came to be, monks simply recited the name of Jesus over and over and it brought them peace. Whatever brings you peace, go with that.
