Joel Embiid hurt his knee in Golden State and now the Sixers’ season is in jeopardy. This video looks at how he got injured and why blaming the “65-Game Rule” is only part of a dark story.

the 76ers were fined for joel missing games, this 65 rule is good for mvp. Joel did not diserve mvp because he was skipping
@vlada4 ай бұрын
No. They werent fined for that. They were fined for not putting him on the probable-questionable-not playing list when they were supposed to. It's supposed to be for sake of opponent and fans but its done for a multi billion dollar business: gambling. Instead of putting embid as probable or questionable earlier, oddsmakers put up odds on the assumption he was 100% playing. That can cost them millions and why league fined Sixers 75k. A player that's either on the probable or questionable can always pull out or play before a game. If you get hurt or feel pain in warmup or before you can miss the game. In this case, the medical staff knew he had problems and it should have been declared to league. It's boring technicalities but they did not fine the team because he didn't play as much as for not putting on on the injury report when they knew something was possibly wrong. It was for withholding information.

Media shouldn't be apologizing to anyone or calling out the 65 game rule. That rule is PERFECT. This is on Embiid, cry wolf enough and you'll get what's coming to you. Embiid is soft and is now taking what the media says about him to heart, that's a truly dangerous combination. You can also throw some blame on players in the past for faking/overplaying injuries as another way to load manage, to the point where the media doesn't believe anyone is actually injured- just a cumulative effect of Adam Silver not taking action sooner (to your point).

It’s not an over-correction. These are regular SEASON awards. If one player contributes .08 win shares for 72 games (5.76 cumulative) and the other contributes .09 for 62 games (5.58 cumulative) then the first was more valuable over the duration of the season. Not to mention the fact that part of the “value” each player brings is linked to visibility/entertainment. What does the math look like for viewership/box office in aggregate? It sucks when a player is injured but they are definitionally less valuable than a comparable player who manages to stay healthy.

Players complain about whether they are on the cusp of 65 games for MVP or All-NBA teams when the unpampered greats like MJ, Stockton, Malone, Admiral, Olajuwon, Bird, and Magic RARELY played FEWER than 90% of the games. Availability is a fundamental ability, not to mention about taking care of yourself to minimize the chance of serious injuries (which, of course, may happen very occasionally*) and mental discipline/competitive drive. *In Embiid's and Zion's cases, they are injury prone and stand to benefit from losing some weight to lessen the constant wear on their perpetually-injured soft-tissue/joints, especially considering the players guarding them are often scrawnier than in previous eras (Chet and Wembanyama are 50-80 POUNDS LESS than star centers of most eras). Seriously, outside of Brook Lopez and Nurkic, most centers who play many minutes are significantly lighter than Joel, and this isn't even factoring the general lack of physicality in the current era! FYI, even league stat titles have a bare minimum of games played or total number reached.

The NBA did not create this rule. It is in the CBA. The players voted for it

You don’t understand how negotiations work
@jnachtig24 ай бұрын
@@draftmagicagain1000 sure I do. Both sides have an agenda. They negotiate. And in the end they both agree to the CBA. The players agreed to this rule,maybe it was because they got something else they valued higher, but that does not change the fact they agreed to it.

He honestly put his leg straight out begging for it to be landed on. If he played he was ok. But he could have not put his leg straight out asking for someone to land on it.

65-game rule is more than fair. Players association also agreed to this rule in the CBA. If not for the rule, it would be unfair to players who play most of the games. Also, Tyrese won't be losing money if he doesn't make all-NBA. That money is going to someone else's supermax contract. Want the rewards? Play the damn game!

AM hoops, good commentary, good analysis. It’s amazing that the NBA under Adam Silver never really listen to the fans. He listens to money, when gambling said they can’t afford to have Guy sitting out because it has to do with betting then he makes a move, but I was told that the 65 game limit was in a collective bargaining, and the players agreed to it. I’m sorry back in the old days 1980s through 1990s and a 2000s. I don’t remember that much low management at all. Guys wanted to play, but now everybody trying to sit out and get rest. It even talking about Lauren the games from 82 to 65. I said they do that then are they gonna lower pay?

I don't mind Embiid missing games if he's actually hurt, just don't make it a gametime decision. I'd say 24 hour notice as a minimum, more for primetime games.

Man you can blame whoever you want. He still ducked most big games on the road, atill ducked Jokic (5 years and counting, so don’t give me the “he was hurt” excuse, I also hold LeBron and KD for not sharing a court for 5 years) and now we gotta hear all the cries. Hope he recovers soon, but this injury won’t fool me.

It's part of the skill of basketball players to manage your body on the court. Maybe don't go for 35 every game, maybe don't play over the limits of your body all the time. Even MJ couldn't go all out every single game, he had to manage his body as well.

embiid doesn't play tough road games, it's just shown in the facts. All the games you mentioned, not playing in denver for 5 years etc. He's a great player, but I just don't think he has that inner fire driving him like the greats do

The guy is big and weighs a ton, yet he falls like it's the opposite case on the smallest of contacts. Naturally, when you purposefully flop so much, you're bound to get injured. This kind of behavior does not warrant an MVP, ever. Actual greatest MVP robbery in NBA history, no contest.

Although not always on point, I think Gilbert Arenas's take is the best. He says base the scoring title on total points not ppg. (That applies across the board) That way you have to play in order to get those stats. As far as for the 65 game rule. The league, which includes the players union, agreed to the new rules. Just saying.

Bro that over/under player points shit was dominant in 3d world countries, and still is. Now Its becomimg a thing i USA too. I used to bet on Danny fucking Granger more than 23.5 in Indiana, that was like 12 years ago, and now I see this shit in NBA games, on the bottom left side of the screen. Fixing matches is not even a secret anymore, and that's a big problem.

make a formula for MVP: win shares x team wins. they wouldn't need an arbitrary game minimum, because you can't get win shares if you're not playing. AND it would remove any controversy for MVP winners. simple solution.

Seriously, I don't care about NBA players not being able to qualify for NBA Awards or All NBA Team because they miss games for injuries. They have a guaranteed contract. So it's not like they are going to be broke.

It isn't a 'dumb rule'. Honestly, it had gotten out of control and this is a entertainment industry and the fans were getting a little pissed off showing up with players who have NO physical reason to not be playing sitting on the bench.

He plays sports, hes a giant, he flails and fals ALOT, often he does it into other people knees and legs... this time he got unijured from playing his sport. It happens, Joel is just being magnified because of this 65 game rule. Its no different than any other season before this one and Joel complains about his recognition a lot. Bad things happen to good people , get well soon Joel.
