Courtney there is a implement company by the name of Fred Cain that I believe would change your approach to tillage. It is called a spring tooth cultivator; I call it a mini chisel plow. They make a small version that I believe the Summitt tractor could handle and I know the Kubota wouldn't have a problem. And it beats a mouldboard plow hands down!!! Almost forgot it also helps in wet areas to drain better!!!
@johnmonteith35742 жыл бұрын
Be aware that by tilting the disc back you will be cutting deeper on the outside and shallower in the middle. This will lead to dirt collecting in the middle and a hill being left in the center of each pass. Long-term this makes for a bumpy field. To leave the gound plowed level, a disc really needs to be run level to the ground. Hope this helps. I enjoy your videos.

@@welshlyn9097 Technically he's correct, the gangs on a disc are positioned in opposite configurations; front throws outward (concave facing outside of the middle) and the rear pulls it back inward. Disks like a Sunflower 1434 which have hydraulic tilt can leave a major ridge if tilted backwards. The sod he was working with his little disk here isn't loose enough to impact it more than the actual cutting of the sod
@markellyfarm2 жыл бұрын
The implement you referred to as a plow we always called a chisel. The plows we used were bottom plows that completely flipped the sod under leaving clean soil on top. We would then let the sod decompose a week or so then disc the soil with little or no clumping. Just two passes. The only problem with the bottom plow was you had to go one direction. Later they made flip plows that you could flip over hydraulically at the ends and plow straight back without deadheading. Would love to watch that on your channel! Great seat time either way. Great channel brother!

Maybe you are doing it this way for KZbin, but I don''t understand your complex disc pattern. Make a pass, spin your tractor around, and make another pass with the tractor centered over the line between what you have disked and what you haven't -- it's called double disking because the overlap is getting cut twice. And pick your disc up at the end of the row...disc bearing are not made for side-to-side loading on a turn. Long straight lines and high speed are what you are striving for.
@GoodWorksTractors2 жыл бұрын
I did pick my disc up at the end of the row and literally said exactly those words in the video. I cross hatched, much better results than the method you described which I have used in several previous videos. Chopped up the clods more consistently.
@HolographicOne2 жыл бұрын
@@GoodWorksTractors a good crosshatch method would be to add a 10 to 15 degree angle on a straight pass rather than 90 degree perpendicular passes. It keeps you from hitting all those grooves dead-on. Just my experience on the farm.
@rfb71172 жыл бұрын
Courtney, on the next pass I would use your rototiller and wait until just before planting or just after planting and hit it with RU. It will be slower work, but you will only have to go over it once with the tiller and you will have a beautiful area in which to plant. The tiller will work very well now that you have broken up the sod. I have an 8' hydro lift pull type disc on rubber that I can set for very light tillage. I will actually be lightly tilling up a few small fields in a couple of weeks preparing for our fall planting of some food plots. We use it occasionally in conjunction with the tiller, or sometimes go with our no till drill to plant. It depends on what we are trying to accomplish, and if we want to broadcast or no till plant.

Thx for the vid as always Personally, I have found that when I'm wanting to cross up the ground with a disc, I cut the field in a shorter length than full run on one end and then my boxes are the same size for every loop. this is similar to a zamboni on a hockey rink, and it cuts down my turns to 90s rather than 3 points. After hitting the whole field once, I then switch the square to get a second pass cross pattern.

I want to do something similar at my place, but on a much smaller scale. We have very sandy soil; only thing we really need to bust up is the sod. Our well is shallow (25') so I'm really hesitant to spray, but man... This soft dirt, weeds appear a day after working the soil! I grew a garden a few years ago by using my tractor bucket to skim the sod off the ground, then used a tiller to fluff the soil, but that was probably an unnecessary step with our dirt being as loose as it is. Got a great garden that year, but man, keeping up with the weeds was a job!

It's not the best to mow all of your land at once. Field flowers, butterflies, insects will be going extinct soon from your land this way. In the Netherlands it's iligal to mow 100% of the shoulders and middle sections on our interstates and highways for instance. We now only once on sand soil, in fall/autumn. After mowing: we leave it laying for one week so the plants and flowers can dry and leave seeds in the soil. Then, we suck up the cut off a week later. Clay and normal soil we mow 2 times. Once in late spring, early summer, once in fall. But: both soils; we leave a minimal of 30% unmowed. So bugs and butterflies etc have a refuge to go to. And other plants can reproduce. By doing this, we have more flowers in our shoulders of highways, more insects and butterflies, which attracts birds. We also have less fog in mornings which contributes to safety. We don't use a hammer flail mower that cuts up everything anymore. It's down that that machines needs to much power to work and isn't that efficient in the long run. It's like putting poison on your land with that machine, all is destroyed. Circle and cyclone mower are key. And... We never plow! We take off the cut offs after one week or so, so the cut off grasses don't suffocate the more delicate flowers. Instead of green deserts of grass, without and fauna life, we now are bringing back colorful strips of green, full of butterflies, ladybugs, dragonflies are even coming back in big numbers. So; why are you plowing cut off grasses into your soil with your plow? All you do is suffocate new grow. It was better to take away the cut off first... Learn from mistakes in the past, and try to create sustainable and diverse nature in your fields. You have the room for it as non commercial land owner. Leave 1 or 2 strips between the forest and your worked land untouched. And see nature coming back. You also need the bees for your vegetation reproduction.

@@kdegraa it's basically a hydraulic pump slapped up to a motor and a swash plate inside tilts as you increase the pedal or lever down or forward. As it tilts, it produces more flow in the piston area thus increasing flow into the motor. Draws more engine power and increases the speed of the machine. Diesel mechanic here on semi trucks, but I grew up on a farm and went to vo tech where they made us rebuild a hydrostat unit, so I saw it first hand lol. I am wondering if he did not have a button pushed in that keeps it from stalling. My 4052r has the same button and I was going insane trying to dig the first hour. I stopped and checked the manual out and that took care of it. Mine will try to tear the tread off now with that pushed, but would stall out just like that before. I can not remember what that button function is called, just know what it does.
@kdegraa2 жыл бұрын
@@toontown6969 this is a good explanation. The pedal controls a pump and the more it’s pushed the more fluid flows, forcing the engine to work more? This makes sense in the real world. We are used to accelerator pedals and the hydrostatic pedals by design look very similar though they are quite different in operation. I have a Kubota tractor and I don’t think it has a button to stop it from stalling if the hydrostatic pedal is pushed too hard.

What appears to be a apples to apples example is possibly not the case. What is the max MPH speed of your 1025r in low range? Then what is the max MPH of the 3025 in low range. IF the 3025 goes faster in low range then there is your answer why the 3025 stalls out with the same implement with the transmission pushed all the way down. By the way your 5 (shank) plow seemed to be more of a rake than a tillage tool, maybe a tiller or moldboard plow or baler? LOL Point of observation on your Dirt Dog disc. You seem to want to go pretty fast with this high horsepower Kubota and the small disc behind it. You go so fast that the front gangs throw dirt past what the rear gangs can pull it back in. SO,,,,,,, the rear gangs can be adjusted in and out on the frame with the U-bolts that hang the rear gangs. Loosen those u-bolts and slide the rear gangs out wider to reach out to help pull back some of that dirt that the front gangs have slung out far. I know it would be too much for the disc mfg to have a bolt on spool and extra slightly smaller disc blade called furrow fillers to clamp on the ends of the rear gangs to help pull that dirt back in. I know I have rambled on forever but I'm just an old farm boy who has spent a lifetime on tractors.

You can spray and broadcast right into the dead chaff for small seeds like brassicas and clover. For larger seeds a no till drill is needed. That's an idea for a video next year.
