You know it's coming. He does it every time. Yet it simply cannot be stopped. 😂

His trademark. A great coaching move and what a player implementing it. It’s so effective.

He did this in literally every game, i could never work out why no one ever seemed to expect it and it always caught people out!

Because the outside centre fixes the defender

You number up in defence. You each line up an opposing player. This move means you’re instantly a man down and also have players scrambling into each other’s space trying to get across. By the time your brain registers what’s happening, it’s already too late to respond.

you can expect it but its hard to defend he can go himself or can unleash another strike runner

Frawley did it not long before his drop goal against the Boks but I know what you mean - It shouldn’t work, but by god it does!

Presence of mind. Knowing how to do it and having the presence of mind to see the opportunity and implement it instantly is the tricky part. I played casual Astro football for years until Covid ended my “career”. Every week I told myself to try a McGeady spin. Every week I wouldn’t do it. One day I was chasing a ball into a corner and a defender was closing. The McGeady popped into my head. As we got to the ball, I did it and completely skinned him. Everyone gasped. I then shanked the ball behind the goals with my left foot. The point is, good players can pull off the simple stuff regularly to great effect in a game. The rest of us can do it in the back garden and never in a game.

Totally agree. From my mate Ben doing it five times a game back in 2000 to Sexton to ... ? 😄 There are faster, more agile 10s who should have used it regularly!

Simplest of manoeuvres but almost impossible to defend against, unless you leave your team open elsewhere along the line…..

Like all the tries it led to in this video? As he aged it lost effectiveness, but it was unreal when he had enough pace to take the gap.
