SpaceX had a similar sized rocket, the Falcon 1. After 5 flights they moved on to Falcon 9. Then Falcon Heavy. Now StarShip. All this despite greater initial investment into Blue. Not sure how a sounding rocket 8 years late is a big step forward. Blue STILL has not delivered a flight-ready engine to ULA nor have they reached orbit themselves. ULA is ready to test and integrate the engines then launch Vulcan. Instead, they are twiddling their thumbs and expending the last of the Atlas V's and Delta IV's. And still, BILLIONS invested hasn't produced anything but a few sounding rocket flights. It's a fancy sounding rocket with people on board, but a "big step" it is not.

For every one ticket, helps bring the cost down even more & more affordable, Blue Origin, could've created a more economical *or VIP spacious* hang-out size version craft, ~2 or nealy 3x pod, using 3 to 4 of half length size canisters, lifting a wider roomy dome. That musical art work painting party image on the Starship interior would look insignificant, compared to a long lasting safer altitude craft activity.

I'm surprised the FAA certified that capsule for human use with the door that swings inward didn't they learn their mistake from Apollo 1?
@area85restorations752 жыл бұрын
1. The FAA is the least of the concerns when it comes to space vehicles. 2. From an engineering standpoint, a door that swings outward is a very bad idea. Should the latch fail, the cabin pressure would force the door open. On the other hand, a door that swings inward is held closed by the cabin pressure. 3. The windows of the NS capsule can be ejected and used as emergency escape hatches if necessary. Additionally, these are huge windows!! The NS is an extremely safe vehicle!! Blue Origin has gone way above and beyond what is required of any regulatory body when designing this thing.
