Chloe, thank you so very much for this excellent video. It brought back so many memories of the same trek my son and me took six years ago to celebrate my 70th birthday. And yet, with the beauty of this country, the flora & fauna, for me, it is the beauty of the people of Nepal that I remember so well. One of our porters, Prakash, to this day is one of our best friends. We continue to correspond via various apps, enhanced with seeing him once again in Oman(!) a couple of years ago. Also, a real pleasure in watching your video is the friendship that you had with your guide/porter. Hopefully, we all never forget the people of Nepal… they are beautiful.

Thank you so much for this comment. Firstly, congratulations on your trek to base camp! It’s a big achievement and great that you got to share it with your son. It’s so lovely to hear you are still so friendly with your porter Prakash. I couldn’t agree more that the people of Nepal are fantastic and deserve so much recognition for everything they do. They touch the lives of anybody who visits! Thanks again for watching the video. Take care.

Wow! Great inspiration for me since I want to go on my 65 th Birthday!
@mwj53682 жыл бұрын
Hi Keith! Amazing accomplishment to go and also being 70! I have only hiked to 12,300 ft and got a terrible headache and had to go quickly to a lower elevation. I'm 68 now and that was 15 yrs ago. I'm not sure if it means I can't hike above that elevation or not. I want to slowly make my way around the world and include Nepal. How much did that trip cost? I imagine it must be expensive as you have to hire porters and such remote hotels they must be expensive too. I have a ruptured disk in my low back so I can't carry a backpack but could have one of those one wheeled carts that strap to your hips. Did you see travelers using those?
@keithkorporaal96462 жыл бұрын
@@mwj5368 Hi Michael, not that expensive. There are several trekking companies that provide excellent service. No need to carry your own backpack as the porters will do that for the trekkers. No need for a single wheeled ‘cart’. And, some areas of the trail are steep with uneven step heights. That alone could be challenging, don’t think you’d want to be pulling anything with your hips… With smaller groups (12-15) in the trek, they will generally have two porters and a Sherpa (my experience). I enjoyed my trek as we stayed in guest houses, meeting the owners and their families. What a pleasure. That’s my experience AND Michael, make it yours, too!
@mwj53682 жыл бұрын
@@keithkorporaal9646 Thanks Keith! I plan to go there on my ebike... or once I get one, so probably it will cost less due to the fact I could get myself there and maybe a ways up the trail on my ebike if that's possible.

This motivates me so much watching their once-in-a-lifetime adventures getting up to base camp, I've treked all my life here in the rockies and Vancouver Island, West Coast Trail, 6 times, Nootka Island Trail, twice, all over Beautiful British Columbia, Jasper and Banff National Park, the Kootenays, Mount Robson, and so much more but not Everest and watching these young people gives me a good kick in the ass to go and do it before I am to old, THANK YOU FOR SHARING THE VIDEO !!!!!

I was there in 1989. I followed Hillary's trek route from Jiri. I'm amazed at how much has changed! We only got to sleep in a building a couple of times along the way. It's nice to see actual metal bridges instead of four cables and occasional (rotting) wooden planks. The trails are wider and I didn't see any yaks vying for the route. Thanks for posting this video.

Lucy , best company you can get is ...called ...your own legs and motivation....., and be aware of altitude sickness ,so exercise at all overnight stops , you do not need in any way a trek company to do it , just go and do it and use your common sence.... oh, and definately move out of the way if you encounter a yak train heading your way , and not to the side of the path that has a precipice..ok... good luck ots worth it , especially if you do it on your own ,at your own speed ,

Hi Chloe, I loved your video... the views look insane. I'm actually doing EBC in 4 weeks, is there any last min advice you have having done it :)
@chloereedni2 жыл бұрын
Hey Aoife, thanks so much for watching! Oh I hope you have the absolute best time!!! Honestly I think as long as you have comfy boots the rest will all fall into place - the most invaluable advice I have is to get a hydration pack because it helped so much with drinking water which helped with the altitude, I would highly recommend getting one if you haven’t already! Apart from that just enjoy every moment, it is challenging but goes in soooo quickly. You will love it. If you have any specific questions feel free to send me a message on Instagram @chloreed_ and I’ll be more than happy to help with anything I can! 😊

Been to EBC thrice, Chloe - 1982, 1985 & 1994. All summer treks. Your Feb trek this year looks fantastic. In summers, there is no snow or ice from Lukla to Gorakshep, so seeing it in your video makes it exceptionally interesting for me. Enjoyed watching it. Thanks!
