Fun fact: we studied about the extreme geography of Ladakh in school where it said you could suffer a sunstroke and frostbite at the same time if you have half your body in the intense sun (since the air's so thin at high altitudes) and the other half in the freezing shade!

Amazing. Atleast some travelers are exploring exotic places of India, like tibetan culture of Ladakh, snow clad mountains of Himachal, Hindu temples of Uttarakhand, blue seas of Andaman/Lakshadweep , Evergreen forests of Western Ghats/NE, Deserts n palaces of Rajastan, IT hubs of Bangalore, Hyderabad etc. Otherwise many just land up in Delhi or Mumbai n directly head to Dharavi slum or congested streets of Chandni Chowk.

Gorgeous place! Just to let you know that all temperatures on apps or the news are shade temperatures. The sun can raise that by almost 15 degrees C which is why it feels so much warmer in the sun than what you’re seeing on your phone. Altitude makes it dry as humidity gives the illusion of cooler in colder climates and warmer in hotter ones as the moisture on your clothing makes you feel cooler or warmer depending on the air temp. So looking forward to todays video as I’m a day behind your current outputs ❤️

Hi Gabriel, what a greeting bright skies sunshine it doesn't get better than that. The town is very peaceful, and you have a space heater which is a blessing, it gets very cold at night. You are going to have to decompress after that trip being on a plane with stale air at 30,000 ft up takes something out of you until you decompress out of the plane. Gabriel safe travels and have a happy Thanksgiving.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos I had been thinking of spending all the time in Gujarat and being far off the tourist trail, but I am traveling with my son (who is studying anthropology and geography) and he has specific things he wants to see. And we have also been inspired by your videos, so we will be flying into Delhi (he wants to get a sense of the megacity; we were in Cairo last year) then we're heading down to Orchha and Khajuraho because he wants to see rural areas. Then we'll see Varanasi before flying to Ahmedabad and then flying up to Amritsar before going by train back to Delhi. We only have 17 days, so we're going further than I'd like in that time. I might be coming back with the whole family in April as part of a between-jobs RTW trip, but if we do we'll need to veer towards the mountains to avoid the heat.

Wow Leh is 3500 metres in altitude. More than double from Srinagar. Flying straight in from sea level must be felt. 3500 metres is even higher than Namche Bazaar. I even got a bit of altitude problen trekking from 2800 to 3400 at Namche. 🙂 Good move to take it a bit easy in the beginning. I noticed that with steep treeking it makes you more vulnerable.

Ladakh and Leh are high on my list of places to visit. Before covid I was planing to go there and climb Stok Kangri (6153m), that snow peak you were looking at from the palace, but it didn't materialize. One day it will. I was so thrilled to see this video in my feed, immediately went to watch :) That fog in Kashmir valley is miserable. And then when you climb above it crystal clear visibility, amazing sky, views from the plane are just stunning 😍 At 2:06 that trio of peaks to the right is Saser Kangri (7672m), closer to the middle is Mamostong Kangri (7516m) in Karakoram, and on the left in the distance is whiteness of central Karakoram. Landscape in that part of the world is just to die for. Can't wait for the next video, I hope you will at least go (or perhaps you already went) to Khardung La pass and maybe beyond to Nubra valley.

You seem about right about the religion part, wikipedia says that in 2011 only about 15% of the people are islamists in Leh. But it also states "In recent times, Muslim migration to Leh from neighbouring Kargil and Kashmir has increased due to better opportunities, and relations between the Buddhist and Muslim communities have soured due to socio-political conflicts." So maybe now there more islamists in Leh.

Are temples, synagogues, shrines , just descriptive of the particular denomination or religion ? Like we here in the USA may call them all churches ? Or is it the size of the buildings, the culture ? Like in England , it may have to do with the size or formality ? Just wondering ! Than you for adding the 2014 journey ❣️

Air temp that you see in weather reports is generally measured inside a "stevenson screen" or in other words in a box in the shade, 1.25m above ground level and out of direct wind (although there are slats in the box to allow freeflow of air), so it will definitely feel warmer in direct sunlight, especially at higher altitude with thinner atmosphere and more incoming solar radiation (although the cold also feels colder at higher altitude due to lower blood oxygenation!). Absolutely love Leh btw! Can't wait to visit. Thank you so much for sharing.

Thats great about your cell service Gabe, I live 20 minutes from the US border near Detroit , and if we get near the river between us , we get a roaming charge of $15 dollars per day ! we cant even get a Canada/ USA roaming package except for an arm and a leg, let alone global roaming. Great video.

You need a better plan. I don't have roaming in Canada or Europe

I can recommend T-Mobile. My plan includes free calling and texts in Canada and Mexico.

I see, I thought you were saying that you were in the US near Detroit, but sounds like you're in Canada.

According to the 2011 census, the population of Ladakh is composed of 46% Muslims, 40% Buddhists, and 12% Hindus. The remaining 2% of the population follows other religions 123. The two main religions in Ladakh are Islam and Buddhism. Leh is dominated by Buddhists, while Kargil is mainly composed of Shiite Muslims. There is also a small population of Sunni Muslims in addition to Hindus, Sikhs, and Ladakhi Christians I hope this helps.

But in the same 2011 census, the population of the city of Leh is composed of 44% Buddhists, 35% Hindus and 15% Muslims. So Gabriel was right about Leh being different than some western parts of Ladakh ...
