This is just another example of Black wealth ending with the death of the Black entrepreneur. Yes there are many who make money during their lifetime, but either their funding or businesses are absconded with by others once they pass on, and their descendants end up receiving nothing but their legacy and their story. Our wealth and ownership rights, rarely survive beyond one or two generations and it's a damn shame.

GolfExcellence Richelieu Dennis owns the Madame JC Walker label.... he also the owns the Shea Moisture label....her great-great daughter gave her blessing for him to take ownership.... he’s African American entrepreneur..... the Madam JC Walker line can be purchased at Sephora..... Mrs. Walker left her family a great legacy and its being preserved and protected I’m so happy to find this out through a Vanity Fair article.
@GolfExcellence4 жыл бұрын
@@athensangel5634 I thank you for your response. However, I think you need to do a little more research. First, Richelieu Dennis' Sundial Brands only acquired the naming rights, they did not acquire any funding, assets, or facilities, from the madam CJ Walker company. So technically he never owned the company, he obtained the right to use the name. Secondly Richelieu Dennis' Sundial Brands was acquired by Unilever a British multi-national conglomerate. Unilever hired a Black woman Cara Sabin, to run Sundial brands. This hire is a shallow attempt to maintain the Sundial Brands' black customer base, and garner Unilever some credibility in the black community. Therefore, I am inclined to reiterate my initial point. Those of European descent, not only abscond with our property, our funds, and our resources, they abscond with our legacies! After one or two generations African American entrepreneurs and trailblazers, have nothing to show for all of their hard work.

It is a shame. I found that many black heirs and heiresses didn't want to carry on the buisnesses. They wanted to strike out on their own and find their own paths. Also there was that nasty organization called the Klan and mobs that shut our people down too. Couldn't win.

@Ebony_Love_R_007 Oh I get the confusion: *I'm guessing **_(I'm only guessing)_** that since the poster said "of this" she meant **_'of this video',_** which would mean she's referring to the **_title_** of the video -- which then means she's using the word "name" as a substitute for the word 'title'.* She wasn't actually referring to the _surname_ of the person. What tripped me up, and I'm guessing what tripped the poster up too was the word "daughter" in the title. *Madame CJ Walker's daughter, A'Lelia, would be 135 years old this year, so the **_title_** of this video -- with the word "daughter" in it -- is misleading because I don't think A'Lelia Sr. has given any interviews lately...* I thought "daughter" was a typo/error.

Go do more research. Addie monroe who's real name was Annie malone was actually the millionaire. Madam did work for her but they had a falling out. That movie put 2 black women against one another and in reality they were just about the same complexion. Madams daughter was also not a lesbian. She married 3 times in real life. Both madam and Annie both built great empires for black women. They still celebrate annie in St. Louis today.

The series may have have been misleading (as well as pretty shallow and amateurish, imo), but it _is_ possible to be a lesbian/gay, and married [multiple times], esp. in that time which we all know was much much less accepting/tolerant of homosexuality or 'queer' people. It seems a lot of the negativity surrounding this aspect of the series from black people is based in pretty transparent intractable homophobia. And it stinks. Black [some] people need to face their mentality re: gay people Its two thousand and fking twenty A.D! Enough with that bs.

Malone was ONE of the first. There's really no truth to who was first or not bc there was apparently others who had great wealth at that time. CJ didn't technically steal Malones product. With the exception of people who are actually born with both male and female parts, and some doctors encourage a decision from the parents and yet others say let them decide when the come of age. Either way that is a tough decision to make. A lot of young persons think that there is a 3rd gender now Bi or that it’s all good, they don’t know that there is nothing new under the sun, but it was called sin and treated as such, they are unawares that there is a spirit behind a lot of this and it is not of GOD,
