It is nice to hear that you made artdolls after being to old to play with dolls. I liked to play with dolls too, and I could do that very long because I have younger sisters. I made clothes and furniture and later I made my dolls from clay. It was in the '80 and lots of woman made dolls in that time. Your "dolls"are very beautiful, with lovely faces. Marie Antoinette looks like a doll I get when I was on holiday in France, I was 12 , long time ago, but I still have that doll. I will see the valentine video very soon, I'am a little late with looking this one. Wish you a nice week and happy valentines day.

Incredible costume and dresses ! The illusion is so perfect that I want to put my fingers through the screen to make sure it's paper and not fabric. The little hat and the beautiful fan are marvels. I have no words to say my admiration and I think about the long hours of work this means.

Hi. I am a subscriber from Brazil and a huge fan. I would like to thank you in a very special way, as you have suggested very interesting places to visit in Paris. I am currently visiting the city and the Cognac-Jay museum you mentioned is really a jewel. Today I have gone to the Hôtel de la Marine, which was another amazing collection of 18th century arts and crafts. Personally, I am more of a 19th century man, as I collect mainly Art Nouveau and Art Déco. Anyway, your point of view on the 18th century is very inspiring and today’s video really sruck a chord. I was floored when one day in school they told the class that drawing would be restricted to art class, as we had “older kids” things to do. Despite being a business PhD, I am also a painter, and painting is my play time to this day. Thanks again.
@Merveillesenpapier Жыл бұрын
Oh Thank you,! you did a great choice visiting l'Hôtel de la Marine, they finished the renovations just last year. It's my goal to visit it on one on my next Parisian weekends, I Know I will love it too. Glad you enjoyed your visit at le musée Cognac-Jay. Art Nouveau and Art déco is wonderful and inspiring too, I have a good friend who is also passionnate by this period and I totally understand. Yes it's sad that the school system dismiss artistic classes like that because a lot of adults would benefit having an artistic practice even on the side and in their personal life . So even with a serious job you still play with your brushes and paints that's great!

A thought came to mind about the fabric of the “dressing table” and why it had layers of fabric. Maybe the layers of fabric were to mimic a lady’s dress? It’s called a dressing table and resembles a dress, Lol. 🤷♀️ ❤ 😊 I want to thank you for creating this lovely video, for me it is much needed and I will come back to watch it again and again. You are so creative and lovely🌹

I am in awe as always, how creative and talended you are. 🎨I love watching your world because it's so different from mine. I spent my day off, at a government office to finally get my US passport. But now I will make time to get acquainted with a new beautiful illustrated book by Inga Moore. I should light some candles while I do this. You inspire the desire to create a more elegant and beautiful surrounding. Thank you for this beautiful video. 🍃 P. S The purple green dress is stunning 🍃

I’ve just finished reading the memoirs of Élisabeth Vigée LeBrun, I was surprised at how many portraits she made during her lifetime, she must have painted almost every day! I love the world you create Laetitia, it reminds me of when I was a child how I first discovered fairytales. I still do and sometimes go back to read them. I like how you’ve recreated the dressing table from the painting! Creating our own world is such a lovely thing to be able to do, thankyou for reminding me of this magical feeling.🥰

Oh nice! Yes she was so productive, it is really inspiring and impressing the amount of work she produced, I think she did when she was not travelling. Thank you Jessica! Yes we should never forget this feeling and teh good it does to us !

I suspect the curtains around the mirror were so they could adjust the light while applying make-up...like we do now with make up mirrors that have multiple light settings...as we know, makeup that looks good at night is aweful in daylight and vice versa
@Merveillesenpapier Жыл бұрын
A little below Amanda shared in her comment the replies to all these mysteries after doing some research , it seems it was for the symbol of the privacy of this moment, but your suggestion complements it too !
@Petipulpul Жыл бұрын
The reason why they used curtains around mirrors was because of the lack of light inside the houses and not just because it looked beautiful, it didn't have to do with aesthetics. If a lady needed to use makeup or fix her coiffeur she needed good light. The cloth around the mirror help the daylight (Or candles at night) reflect better on the face of the person standing in front of the mirror. Just try yourself.
@amandajephson9964 Жыл бұрын
Regarding the dressing table cloth...the word Toilette originally comes from Toile, meaning cloth and referring to the cloth that ladies and gentlemen put over their shoulders while having their hair and face done... hence Toilette refers 'to the various elements, and also the whole complex of operations of hairdressing and body care that centered at a dressing table, also covered by a cloth, on which stood a mirror and various brushes and containers for powder and make-up: this ensemble was also a toilette, as also was the period spent at the table, during which close friends or tradesmen were often received. The English poet Alexander Pope in The Rape of the Lock (1717) described the intricacies of a lady’s preparation: “And now, unveil’d, the toilet stands display’d Each silver vase in mystic order laid.” ' Wikipedia
@Merveillesenpapier Жыл бұрын
Thank you Amanda for your precious research !! Yes it helps a lot though I don't understand why the table was always the same shape and the curtain above the mirror either, but the link between toile and toilette make sense!
@amandajephson9964 Жыл бұрын
@@Merveillesenpapier I will try to find out. At a guess, maybe the dressing table was being 'dressed in toile', like the shoulders of a person? The cloth served the purpose of protecting the bottles and jars, and could be pulled over to cover and protect the dressing table from all the powders and hair bits during the toilette ..like a protective dust sheet?? I will investigate further, I like that you observed it is fascinating! And what a fabulous video, phew makes me feel ungrateful for all the struggles I have with my creative goals, I forget about all those joys! Your Marie Antoinette and other figures are so so delightful and the fan...is fabulous! I love the dragon, which looks like the friendliest dragon I ever saw!! One can sense completely your absolute joy and enthusiasm and love of sharing all this with others! And we are SO SO LUCKY to be on the receiving end of your absolute delight and magic!!!! 🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️💖💖💖🎉🎉🎉
@amandajephson9964 Жыл бұрын
Here is a further suggestion in some paintings, the cloth on the mirror serves to create privacy and also suggests intimacy. Some paintings show it going right around the back of the dressing table which is sometimes placed in the middle of a room, thereby functioning as a curtain to give privacy. Those who are facing the back of the dressing table can't see the lady until she is fully made up with hair done, or she can show parts of herself as she pleases to those behind. In other paintings the dressing table is placed against a wall or window and the mirror cloth follows the fashions of the time with bows, like a decorative curtaining. Here it is less functional and more symbolic of intimacy and privacy.

Yes we often focus about teh struggles and teh fifficulties which always come at soem point but the joys are so much more important and uplifting.this lady dragon isn't friendly though, but I think I love dragons too much and even when they are suposed to be mean I can't help making them look nice and kind ;) You are very sweet Amanda :))Thank you so much !

Thank you for finding the solutions to these important questions Amanda !!!

Did Marie Antoinette have a dressing table like that? Because more than likely, it was a fad of the day, based on something done at the royal court. Just like fashion, hairstyle, etc.
@Merveillesenpapier Жыл бұрын
It is a good suggestion Patti but I think this trend started in the mid 18th or even earlier but I will continue my research to know more as it's very intriguing!
