The Junkyard BOX TRUCK Overland CONVERSION gets brackets and panels

Hey y'all. Sorry for the delay on getting this one out. This video is from March and the temperatures were still good, but in realtime it's been really challenging to figure out how to find time to work on the build, edit videos, etc. as the temps rise.
In this episode, I have to start making a TON of brackets that will hold on the side panels of the box. And I have to make the panels. The panels are something I've experimented with for a while over the years, and it involves laminating pink foam board xps insulation on both sides with FRP. The glue is always the tricky part, and I've found the best foam for xps foam insulation is 3M FastBond. I've used it on a few projects and it's held up great.
As a side note, these videos are going to be catching up really quickly to the current progress. I'm not going to make you suffer through the tedium of making every single bracket and every single panel. As it stands right now, we're really close to starting to work on the interior, which is going to be a really fun change of pace.

Thank you! Your comment made my day :) Making all those brackets and laminating all those panels has honestly kinda zapped a lot of energy and motivation -- in that quantity they're a lot of work, but it's all the same and it feels like no progress has been made even though I know that's not true. So your enthusiastic comment was really great to read. I think I'll have one more panel to make to make an enclosure for the air conditioner, so I guess I'll take the opportunity to make a tutorial video.

Thanks. I look at them now completed and holding panels up, and I'm definitely glad I went through the effort. That being said, maybe next time I'll have them laser cut and bent instead of making them all by hand.

Looking great, I was surprised to see you didn't insert the panels in the structure but you need them out for the look right?

The panels go on the inside for a few reason. One is for looks, absolutely. There's also the fact that I put down (once they're ready to go in for good) a bead of silicone so the panels seal against the frame. And then... it would be incredibly difficult to cut each panel cleanly to fit into the frame perfectly. This way I get away with a sloppier fit and still have all the aesthetic and functional benefits.

I know.... It's been a while since an update. I've been more focused on building than editing, but I'll get something out in the next few weeks. (thanks for asking for it! That's actually a huge motivator!) As a slight "preview" of sorts: while it's not road-worthy yet, I've actually been living in the van for the last few months. So that's something!)

I lived in it for about a month while I moved across the country and realized how much more work I had to do so I bought an RV. I’m happy with my purchase but still love seeing custom builds like yours.
