The biggest bullying scandal in K-pop was T-ara's scandal. Also Jimin and Minah's scandal isn't what led to many idols being accused. It was those two volleyball players being exposed that led to a ton of idols suddenly being accused.

Yeah it even got to old classmates claiming being bullied over nothing. Some remarks might sting but taking it as far as saying bullying? Bruh Even Yunhyeong from iKon was targeted but all his classmates came to his defense some classmates even said that when he witnessed the start of bullying he would take the bully away and take attention away from them. The victim said that Yunhyeong took care for him in his own way and was thankful he was one of the only people who cared enough to get the bully away from him.

@@thatasiangirl0_039 T-ara was literally a punching bag for 5+ years and pretty much had to stick to China activities due to being hated in Korea so much. You're also forgetting that during 2nd gen there weren't as many K-pop fans and social media wasn't what it is today. It was so bad that people took Secret's car accident articles and made comments along the lines of "T-ara are you seeing this? This is how you should act. Instead y'all would probably be like 'move over b*tch' and leave __ to die."

Sad that Mina got away with almost ruining countless lives. Yes, she is mentally unstable and needs help and I hope she receives the help she needs. But, she needs to be held accountable for what she did. She’s acting like nothing happened and didn’t even apologize. If you check the aoa schedule Mina was mostly out and did not attend most shows etc when her father was on the hospital. She also has said her father was an extremely abusive person growing up etc saying he’s an awful person and went to a “magician show” where she explained a lot of the stuff that allegedly happened in her youth from her father. She also blames Jimin for a lot of misfortunes that Jimin cannot control… KZbinr from AOA Heart Attack MV who was an actor in the Video has also said that “Mina was difficult person and hard to work with.. she went and did the opposite of what the group and team were doing on set making it difficult.” This video is many years prior to the bullying allegations so they are his viewpoint entirely.

I feel like... after this scandal, no one learned from it. There have been dozens of allegations of abuse, especially school violence, after AOAs scandal, and everyone reacted the exact same way. No one thought twice. Maybe they did, but the actions of people who didn't spoke louder and had more of an impact. Innocent idols even lost their entire careers because of it. If there is anything this scandal influenced in the K-pop industry is.. it encouraged more allegations (both true and false) to come out.

So.. in the end the bully is actually being bullied? I have issues with people canceling another thru social media by way of public trial. I find it unfair to the accused since if such is the case then bring a case to court for compensation where things need to be proven. Higher standard than just crying into camera. Lee Hyori continues to surpirse and fascinate me as a person. I am glad she reached out to Jimin and gave her a safe space to stay for her mental health. I think Hyori is a person who lives and really learns from her past. She has mentioned in, a more joking manner, about how she used to be a stuck-up idol in her early days of FINKL and how even her own members and other girl groups didn't like her because of her attitude. She said other girl groups often fought with her in the bathrooms of music shows. When asked if her own members helped her, she said "why would they? I was an asshole to them, so why would they help me?" She owns up to her past negative behaviors, understands why she reacted in that way, and she actually seems apologetic. I am sure a lot of things went down within FINKL but all the girls grew up and came to be with all the small and big issues that happened in their young age. It shows a level of maturity and good health.

Being once the target of a person with narcissistic personality disorder, I got triggered by this story. I kind of understood how Mina manipulated events to make Jimin look evil because I've been on the receiving end like Jimin. I think what happened here was Mina's constant acting up (as backed up managers and staffers) eventually wore out Jimin's patience, and when it's your job as the group leader to keep a difficult person (as attested by managers and staff) in check for all these years, there will come a point where your patience is stretched so thin that it's easy to to pop off at that person especially in stressful situations. (that's why Jimin doesn't remember these incidents).. It's likely true that Jimin said harsh things to Mina in sheer exasperation, but Mina embellished the story, magnified Jimin's reaction and simply redacted her own part in what led up to Jimin acting/reacting the way she did. If you take away the context and simply say Jimin said these things to Mina for no reason, then she does sound evil and inhuman. That's why people should never take these he said/ she said narratives as gospel truth.

I've been a casual kpop fan since 2nd gen so I know years prior to this, there's similar scandal that happened to T-ara. So when I first heard about Mina's accusations I just sat here and thought that would've been very 'funny' if her accusations were also proven false after the heat died down. And voila turned this one was also false. Sadly, netizens didn't learn from this 2 cases. There had been false bullying accusations that surfaced these last 3 years and some were proven as false, i.e. Soojin, Woojin, and Garam's case. But netizens can't just sit tf down to wait and see.

I don't think this is primarily about bullying, I think it's about a mental health crisis. The k-pop industry really needs to take their artists' mental health more seriously. Too many people have lost their lives! The online platforms that allow netizens to harass people are also at fault here for not regulating what is posted and spread online!
@AwakeningWings
@AwakeningWings Жыл бұрын
It's both bullying and a mental health crisis. The youth there are not doing well at school or in life and they end up with mental health issues. It's just all-around bad. Even regulating posts won't be enough, this needs to start with society and its societal conditioning. It all has to be reworked completely otherwise things like this will keep happening and things will never change. It is so deeply exhausting having to see all this happen over and over again.

Netizens are responsible for their own fucking behavior. If you are the sort of person who dogpiles, then maybe you're just a horrible person in the first place and need to own up to that and work on being something that is actually worthy of the title of human being. Frankly, the organization kept Mina for longer than most would considering she didn't take vocal lessons, missed dance practices, was always late, mistreated staff, and did things like getting a hair transplant procedure the day before she had to go to dance practice. The more I hear about her work ethic, or lack thereof, the more I'm surprised she wasn't fired or at least demoted until she wasn't part of the group anymore. And that would be the case in a regular organization in the west too, at best someone would get laid off and helped to get disability checks because, if we accept the narrative that all the above is all due to mental health issues, then her mental health is so severe she can't work and needs to be on disability until she gets proper meds and therapy. That would be the best and ideal case scenario. (And, mind you, mental health issues doesn't excuse being an asshole to people like mistreating the staff or targeting another person just because)

It is jealousy. It's even more obvious with her behaviour to Seolhyun. She specifically named her and Jimin in her sui**** letter before she self-harm, even when she can't even name one thing Seolhyun did wrong to her. It's hilarious that the ONE story she manages to conjure up to tries to justify calling Seolhyun as a bad person is just when Seolhyun brings her puppy to the dorm, and the puppy poops in the dorm... Mind you, AOA members are separated into two different dorms back then and Seolhyun didn't even share the same dorm with Mina...
@p1kkuma
@p1kkuma 6 ай бұрын
not jealousy towards jimin (maybe towards seolhyun though lol). sensitivity and narcissism. jimin as the leader got all the resentment for being the leader because she had to reel mina in. choa (who was a perfectionist and said to be pretty strict, at least early in their career) said mina wouldn't listen to her at all and wouldn't do things she was told to, so choa gave up on trying early on. an actor for an MV even had things to say about mina's poor attitude while filming and that she would constantly need people reminding her to do what she had to do. someone had to be the one to try and put mina in place and it was jimin, so mina saw it as a personal attack against her. mina suffers from serious narcissism in general, from accounts of her bossing managers around. people who worked with her (managers, actors on their MV's) said she was not pleasant to work with. anyway. basically i hope mina can get help and therapy because clearly she has issues.

What's even more sad is this wasn't an example for k-pop fans to stay neutral when something happens. Woojin's case came after this and regardless of all the allegations being proved wrong the fans kept on saying he was a bully and then Garam's case. People refused to think. They refused to take a look at the pics being spread of "garam" doing wrong stuff and making dirty jokes and it got so bad that Garam was made to leave the group and the kpop fans were celebrating, celebrating that a 16 year old who worked hard for years to debut. Then receipts started coming in and it was clear Garam wasn't a bully but of course the kpop community wasn't going to accept that they were wrong and just kept on making jokes and hating on her. The kpop community has learnt absolutely nothing from this sad case.

Even aftet the so-called victim turned out to be the real bully, I still see the fans immediately turn against the idols when they get accused of bullying without any real proof. Soojin from Gidle and Garam from Lesserafim were also victims of false accusations that cost them their career. The reason pancreatic cancer is called the "silent killer" (by doctors everywhere not just in Korea) is not just for the low survival rate. It's because it's super hard/rare to get it diagnosed at an early stage, which is basically the reason of the low survival rate. You have to be lucky and know what you're looking for. Why? Because at first you have no symptoms/pain. Unfortunately, by the time you start experiencing symptoms/pain, it normally means that it has already spread to surrounding organs. So, most of the times when people get diagnosed it's already too late. I had to find out the hard way when my dad got diagnosed with it a year ago and passed away 2,5 months after the diagnosis. We had read the statistics and we knew it was a countdown (many patients pass away 3-6 months after diagnosis).. and yet.. everything felt like it happened ridiculously fast..

I remember when this all first came out and there were already a lot of red flags in Mina's story but people seemed either blinded or afraid to point them out because like you said, Jimin literally became public enemy number 1. If you even questioned Mina's story, you also became the enemy on social media. Mina's initial allegations were so hyperfocused on one person and told from a victimized perspective though. Reading through the cracks and having some common sense it became apparent that even if the allegations were true, Mina's perspective made them, and Jimin, sound far worse than some others might've considered them. Jimin's alleged actions could be connected to her being pressured by the company and the industry, or simply because Mina might've been sensitive to being told what to do or being part of a group. If the allegations were proven to be true, of course Jimin would've deserved to lose her position and whatnot, but the public's response to the allegations without any proof whatsoever was absolutely insane and inhumane. People treated her worse than they treated Amber Heard.

Please cover more kpop stuff. I think there's lots of things that should be brought out in a coherent format. Thank you for your work.

All the drama aside, I don't think I'll love Lee Hyori more. Omg she's just so kind in getting Jimin under her wing. Bad things could happen if she hasnt done that.

Mina 100% has borderline personality disorder; using self harm/suicide attempts to garner sympathy/manipulate to get your way, constantly framing yourself as the victim, frantic attempts to avoid "abandonment", vindictive behavior, seeing people as all good until they do something perceived as a slight and then seeing them as all bad, jumping from relationship to relationship, etc.

And up until now, except Seolhyun, almost every member in AOA are still struggling 😢 after Queendom, AOA got their fame again but then bam, this scandal broke out. Chanmi (now Dohwa) is joined another competition, called Queendom Puzzle and it's hurt that almost everyone doesn't recognize who is she....

I heard about this while it was happening and frankly didn’t care-I didn’t know anything about AOA and nobody on my twitter tl was talking about it since I usually run in different circles. But I never (until now, seriously) heard about any resolution to what happened. Now I’m realizing though that I still came out of this scandal with a negative opinion of Jimin and having no idea who Mina is. So now, while it’s not like I have reason to like Jimin, I’m just realizing I essentially irrationally disliked her simply from the VERY SURFACE of whatever issues I managed to hear about… that’s how bad the witch hunt was. I hope I can use this realization to treat situations like this more neutrally until I hear a resolution and look into it purposefully.

It was terrible. People were clipping videos of their reality show to prove her bullying. She was bullied for her rapping, her looks, everything. The only thing I have to defend myself in this, is that when she apologized, I thought she was admitting guilt and responsibility for the bullying, then I moved on before her story stopped making sense and her actions were revealed. That happens in kpop a lot tho- idols are made to apologize for things they didn't do just to save face. But I think Jimin did genuinely feel guilty for unintentionally triggering an ill person. I feel empathetic to Jimin tho because I can understand being a victim of an ill person.

I grew up with a naccasistic grandma and what mina was doing is textbook manipulation... The way she uses suicide and selfharm for gulilty tripping is really fucked up.

I think the problem is Mina is incredibly unstable and she doesn't want to acknowledge where she needs help.

As a person who's struggling with BPD and other mental health issues. There's really no excuse for what Mina did. I feel so sorry for Jimin and the other members. I hope they are doing well wherever they are.

What's bothering in this is she used mental health to her advantage. This creates more stigma to this issues as there are people that truly suffers from bullying and indeed develop mental illness. Mental health is no laughing matter but also not to be used to anyone's advantage. Imagined if the accused develop so much depression and unalive herself for sure this Mina will just create a world that it's not her fault and she's simply is a victim. Obsession and narcissism is deadly, this Mina should retire in entertainment industry. She a menace and needs help. Who knows if she brings more harm to others and to herself for real. This is a great reminder that if there's is a bullying incident, don't turn urself into a bully just to support an alleged bullied. I pray for everyone's healing and peace of mind.

As a Seonhohada (ksh fan) , this comment hit me hard. The industry almost lost a talented celeb, and we almost lost a genuine person and great actor to public opinion because of false allegations. 😭 I’m glad his case and Jimin’s case have changed the industry and taught people not to be quick to judge and jump to conclusions. We’re so glad Seon Ho is back! Looking forward to his debut movie, The Childe, premiering in June. 🥳🥳💙
