lol i don't think the gloves let you really do it right. I'm sure it's possible but would take way more practice than more conventional strikes. Also unified rules limit strikes to the throat, so the legal real estate to try it on is like 6 square inches.

One of my old Taekwondo instructors had to do a 3 board”s” break for his 2nd Dan using a hand technique (he chose right hand reverse punch/ right cross) at this test he broke his hand... Our head instructor let him retest at couple months later so he switched to left ridge hand and smashed it!! It was amazing I remember everybody cheering for him. I miss him dearly as he passed months later from pneumonia....

old Bas Rutten uses the forearm. In our style of Karate Mr. Harrison taught to used the inside of the wrist. I seen people get knocked out with the it. The main thing is to keep the thumb down. It happened at a tournament here...many years ago. One of the students hit the guy on the side of the neck with the haito, he went down but he left his thumb out and broke it....Thanks for the video.

True knowledge from the PRH himself. Hey could a ridgehand be done stepping in to sort of catch up to an opponent circling off to your weak side away from your power? I would think this would allow for more room for your short wind up to follow through and penetrate more tremendously.

It is like a long range hook. The only danger can be in competition the fingers can jam into opponents eyes if misses. However a similar technique with backfist is possible with thumb looking down a reverse backfist called uraken mawashi as practiced in styles like Kyokushin. Most karates strikes as well as blocks work pretty well in longer ranges with fast pop in and out type of attacks.

Reminds me of Bas Rutten's "bone" hooks. Bas said that he used to hook with his forearm rather than his fist. It was because of the pancrase rules if I recall correctly. He couldn't hit with closed fists back then plus he's more likely to break his hand on his opponent's skull since they had no hand protection.
