This doesn't get talked about much on our channel, mainly because it takes a special kind of artist to be able to make it happen.
When you're able to get people talking about you that's when you start to truly break as an artist, you'll find that most artists break through word of mouth and this is due to how robust and effective it is as a marketing method. There will never be a stronger form of marketing than word of mouth, and that is especially true in music.
This isn't a technique that is easy to do from home, there are viral videos you can make from your bedroom but in reality to really do something that gets people talking you're going to need to get out there, there are no hacks to it, it's about getting a bit of luck then knowing how to navigate marketing in order to ride that luck in to headlining Glastonbury.
------------------ THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW -----------------
💻 WHO ARE WE?

Another tip! KZbin is a fantastic (and easy) way to show your personality and daily life to your fans! Doing vlogs or behind the scenes content will make people excited for your upcoming releases! If I love an artist’s personality I will definitely try to see them live! Now I just need to follow my own advice 😅😭

To be honest, this concept is probably the most important concept talked about on this channel. It's ALL about word of mouth. It's all about this big social matrix we find ourselves in. That should be the thing that artists hold at the front of their mind when it comes to branding and marketing. Learning about all the techniques & tools & resources & strategies is all well and good, but at the end of the day THIS word of mouth thing is the CHIEF concept of all of the techniques. Really like the philosophical videos like this tbh. Perspective is everything -- they're like "codes" -- people can innovate better based on their philosophies/principles/perspectives that they hold in their mind, moreso than the techniques to "hack" algorithms and shit like that

Always amazing tips for us. It's weird because a while ago I was so scared of starting this whole thing, like getting people to talk about me, keeping conversations open, constantly being present (without spamming !) and now I just don't care, I'm doing this for myself and for the people who will love it. So I must continue building the momentum ! And I think it clicked in my mind thanks to your videos. Thank you guys !

this was one of the best gems. ive literally been thinkin about it this week (and i know that sounds major cliche but i dont care bout how people feel about my comment. this is real talk. Im an artist myself (@Mo_Micz) and i come across thousands of FB ads everyday and new music being plugged and granted a lot of it sounds great. But still i skip the ad or pay it no mind. Maybe its cause im on my own journey and not the 'avg'listener or maybe i just dont connect with it. Ive been thinkin how all the artists i love and listen to have gotten 2 my attention. And i think 90 % is thru friends and word of mouth. And possibly live performances or even online live performances hosted on MTV or Tiny Desk or something. So Big media coverage is still a thing i guess. It gives u more of a reputation but harder reach so thats level 10 or something. This, of course in a social media era is extremely hard 2 do, becoming "word of mouth" when there's so many good artists out there. Long story short, thats why i resonate heavily with this video at this particular moment, so THANK YOU!. and shameless plug - I get your love - mo micz droppin sept 4th.

QUICK VERSION: 1. Inject personality into your content.Bring the unique you into your stuff. Pick an extreme and be extreme. 2. Live shows. Make it a memorable experience. 3. Give people something to talk about. Publicity stunts.Make it represent your personality. 4. Make people feel like they know you. DM every new follower. It's cool to make friends fans and it increases how often you show up in their feeds.

It’s interesting that no one EVER says...make extremely DOPE music. That seems to be of no consequence. Just apply these tactics..and voila...success! I wonder if people will grasp that. If the 100’s of millions of ‘artists’ apply this...why do so few rise?

Aside from the nightmare uncertainty of future gigs due to COVID, gigs have always been unbelievably hard to get. We play anything & anywhere halfway decent that we can afford to play, which may connect us with new people, we play as an acoustic duo, no band so as to keep costs down & because we can keep to a couple of guitars / most low key so called “intimate” gigs which are conceivably accessible to musicians have no stage / you’re standing in front of the dart board next to the toilets / or a small stage area, often with people eating in front of you. Not only is there ZERO pay & often not even free drinks, we have often had to pay to buy tickets for friends & family who have travelled many miles to support us. On average these gigs have taken months of begging, blagging & conniving to pull off, we show up with thousands of pounds worth of guitars (musicians:- needless to say don’t take your eyes off your guitar for a second at these places!) & each gig within 100 mile radius costs us around £100 basic / petrol / parking or up to £150+ if we hire a van to bring a keyboard. We try to play a good show to a small audience despite these venue’s crappy old mics, monitors & PA / often no lights & a 5 minute soundcheck if you’re lucky. There are always a few kind souls touched by our songs & music who make it feel worthwhile at the time & yes, they probably share via word of mouth to a few friends & if you can blag another gig a few months later hopefully they may show up. They may mention the gig on Facebook & their friends may momentarily glimpse their post. We certainly feel obliged to buy them a couple of drinks for their support & are more than happy to talk to anyone who listened & didn’t shout throughout our set for their jokes & conversations to be heard over our beautiful, delicate songs. ✊️🎸
@rodd1000
@rodd1000 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure what venues you play but turn to city gigs on the recognised circuit, usually have a good PA and sound man. Yeah you share the night with 3 or 4 other bands but that’s how you network. Playing small town and village pubs is slog and pointless if you’re an original artist (unless you have a large local following).
@jamescassidy3995
@jamescassidy3995 4 жыл бұрын
RODD -: Yes you’re right, but we’ve been trying to get the non paid gigs in London for around 18 months before COVID & been almost entirely ignored by the bookers, which was unfortunately what we expected. You’ll have to take my word for it that we’re a great band with 2 world class albums & numerous (again costly) BBC Radio Live sessions under our belts! We’ll keep trying even though the London gigs would cost us more to play than our gigs in Kent. I might try starting a fight on a ferry though.✌️🎸✨

Feel that there is a lot of talent out there that could be doing a lot better with the right guidance for example this young artist kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZ-pmqeCo7SSqs0 I have seen so many talented artist come and go on KZbin and I wonder if they had the right people behind them if they might have done better. Anyway I have no connection to this artist just the hoping she can find success as she is a diamond in the rough IMO.

Your advice is still living in a pre-Covid world. Play live? When is that going to happen on a consistent basis? Especially going into winter with indoor venues being the only choice, especially small, enclosed indoor spaces. then your advice to 'draw a crowd'. Same thing. Third bit of advice - stage a publicity stunt. I know you added a caveat but your Oasis brawl example is absolutely ridiculous. I think one thing mentors should do is encourage people to make the best music they can, not do publicity stunts and start fights instead of making great music.
