I have lived in three countries. Give two examples of comprehensible input. One situation: A 25-year-old man works for a year in Ireland with Polish workers who speak only Polish. After that year, he got Polish and tries to practice the language whenever he sees some Poles around. Second situation. Where I worked in Ireland, there was a group of Latvian workers and a group of Polish workers. In one barn, people from these two countries have been working together for 20 years. People from Latvia can understand Polish partly because it is similar to Russian. In this place, people can understand both more than I can, but they don't start talking in a different language. Comprehensible input works at any age, but after a certain age it doesn't create another language in the brain.

I have a better advice for you, just fall in love with English culture and people, you won't need any habits, you won't even notice the passage of time, and if you don't love them then give it all a rest, you won't learn anything just lose a lot of time. You can also become English language junkies, like me. In time you won't be able to carry on without yet another lesson, simply imagine that Joseph is your dealer and you need your dose of the language. I think a bit of humor can also be helpful.
