As the mother of a special needs child who will always live at home with us, it breaks my heart to hear about this case. Our society still so often casts out or turns a blind eye to our developmentally and physically disabled fellow citizens.

If what you say is accurate, then how do you explain the thousands of adult residential treatment facities and group homes that exist all over the country!? Just because you're ignorant to the fact doesn't make it true when you make a ridiculous claim with zero substantiation! Just because advocates don't come knocking at your door to offer services does not mean they don't exist... if you don't ask for help, then you'll never receive it. Its like people who don't play the lottery constantly saying "i wish i could win the lottery"... if you don't play, you'll never win!

My son just turned 19. When people ask me why I'm not making arrangements to get him into some sort of facility or group home, this is why. The only thing standing between him and the cruelties of the world is a mother's love. And he can only get that at home, with us.

I don't often cry at cases because I'm focused on the logistics and twists, but this one genuinely put tears in my eyes. Edward and Robert did so amazing for themselves to live independently, have community, have friends. My brother also has diabetes so I know how hard that can be to live with as well. Only the sickest most vile human would attack a poor disabled man and use his friends as collateral. May they rest peacefully. And thank you Adrian for focusing on their strengths.

It was clear by his arrogant smirking that Adam felt untouchable. His bail was likely sourced from drug trafficking which is a Hell’s Angels business in the USA. His “house” was a headquarters for the local chapter of HA which is why it was barricaded and full of drugs. He was the leader of a violent gang organization which makes one wonder why poor David was left unprotected. I have no doubt that Caius was an active participant in the entire crime; he bought supplies and he had a previous conviction for torture and kidnapping the girl. He was very likely delighted at the prospect of “practicing” his obsessions that he so proudly displayed at home and on his body. These men gave themselves over to cruelty, rage and violence. But what is so pathetic is that they are just bullies preying on people who have nothing and are unable to protect themselves as most people would do. That makes these criminals weak cowards, not big, powerful men. I hope they’re suffering at the hands of ruthless, violent criminals in prison. They deserve to suffer. I hope you’re at peace, David, Ed and Robert. You are missed by the people you touched. 😢

It's unfortunate when people on bail commit additional violent crimes but they're the minority. Most people who are released before trial shouldn't be locked up at all. After all, why should they be made to serve their (potential) sentence before they're found guilty? Many people are found not guilty after spending months/years in jail. That's not justice.

Why was Adam EVER allowed to bond out of jail?? He was arrested twice for intimidating the same man, as well as assaulting him and trying to frame him for a serious crime, and yet both times a relatively low bond was set...low for someone like Adam, who had friends that would do him favours. And despite the crimes he was charged with, no police protection was ever offered to David, despite them knowing that he was in danger from Adam. Edit: And Caius Veiovis?? Cool. 😕
@l-b284
@l-b284 2 ай бұрын
Agree. It seems like the judge was either intimidated from the Hells Angels himself, completely out of his element with this kind of crime, or a wet noodle that was ineffective. And also the issue with police protection; it isn't about liberals or conservatives. It seems that too many police departments have inadequate training on human behavior and cannot grasp true danger and threats. That in and of itself is scary. They shoot people who aren't a threat, and allow people in danger to be killed.

This case was horrible because his innocence caused him to take terrible advice on the part of his social worker who I know was just doing her job but clearly lacks in street smarts. I say this not blaming him at all - I don't victim-blame, I merely strongly question the advice he was given. If he had someone in his corner who counseled him to just put his head down, never go back to Adam's house for any work, and cut his losses, three men would still be alive today. I just wish he had someone with street smarts who could have looked out for him that bothers me so much.

@9teen9tee4 your opinion is going to be unpopular because it is brain-dead. Simple as that. You're arguing that the witness protection isn't 100% guarantee of safety but somehow you argue letting them go and saying nothing is? When they've already beaten and threatened the victim? Like I say, brain dead. We all know who is at fault here. Not the victims. Not the social worker. The authorities can shoulder some blame for letting the guy go out on bail because he paid $50k and then $250k. Apparently they thought the money was worth more than risking people's lives. Partial responsibility definitely lies there. Then there's the 3 pathetic evil criminals who took the lives of 3 innocent men. They are all to blame. I say again; Not the victims. Not the social worker. Please take a long look at yourself and think about how dumb your take is. It's not 'unpopular'. It's just stupid.

@mikejones6791
@mikejones6791 Жыл бұрын
The simple answer is the legal system requires "credible" threat or evidence that you or your families life is danger... unfortunately hearsay is no longer considered credible due to the constant abuse of those types of allowances or protections by the law. For example, here in PA you cannot obtain a PFA (protection from abuse) or restraining order without being married or related to the offending party or having a history of assaults on police record... this is because too many stupid people abused the process for stupid reasons or outright lied about infractions to simply get someone to leave them alone or outright slander someones good name as revenge for a slight, imagined or not. These things cost money and time, that if not properly vetted, can easily be wasted and denied from someone who truly needs some kind of police protection. So try not being so damn insufferable, not everything is law enforcements fault... i bet you truly believe in the term "those less dead"... dontcha'!

I think you answered your own question. "Terrified, anxious and paranoid disabled man" The police judged a human based on that exact description instead of thinking of him as a hard working, thoughtful and kind individual. They saw all the negatives and without thinking dismissed his fears as "crazy ramblings" or worse yet may have believed his fears where justified but did not think him worthy or protection.

I relate hard to the storm watchers. My mother chased tornadoes before marrying my father, and both have meteorology degrees. Plus living in the Midwest, where storm watching is a common past time. This case breaks my heart in the same way the Yuba City Five does. Somehow it feels incredibly sad when someone with mental problems (deficiencies or illnesses) is targeted for violent crime. For the most part, they mean no harm. And they feel particularly vulnerable. Caius cultivated that demonic look; he WANTED to intimidate people. He shot himself in the foot there. And Adam is just a f**king monster and deserves the full weight of everything he's going to go through in prison and in Hell.

Yeah, at first I thought I was “desensitized” due to hanging around alt and body modification circles - wonderful community btw, some of the nicest and most creative and fun people to hang around - but not, whatever is going on there is simply ridiculous. His deeds are what prevent me calling him “laughable”, that’s what makes a monster out of him. On that subject, I have to say how Adam is 100x more disturbing than Caius. And on looks alone, he appears as normal as it gets. But it wasn’t already enough to abuse a vulnerable and peaceful guy who’s down on his luck selling scrap metal just “because you can” (I don’t think for a second he believed that he was robbed, he just used as a pretext, because people like him gets a kick out of doing what he did) to take things to the extreme that he took is a truly remarkable shown of how much of a Grade A vermin he is. I hope his pitiful bargain with the feds is widespread and that he’s receiving the delux treatment snitches get. To conclude: And I cannot be the only one to arrive at this thought; How nightmarish is that that was definitely not the first time they disposed of remains in this manner. No shot.

Thank you. same here. All this started over scrap metal, FGS. I have to fight thoughts about where I would insert incandescent rods if I had some say in this, but regardless there is no way to bring those three worthy and innocent men back to life. David should have been provided with official help and protection to honour his courage. Instead of this he and his companions were let down and had to suffer fear, unspeakable torment and at last a horrible death. This should never have been possible, and hopefully it will never happen again. It fills me with despair that the three friends could not modestly enjoy their self-established and well-earned "good lives" in this calm rural area without harrassment. Thankfully Adrian held much back regarding the friends' ordeal. At least one can hope that they have now found peace. Regarding the despicable murderers (opinion: I am convinced of their guilt) I am torn as to which punishment - if any - is adequate to atone for their crimes. The death penalty (if it were available) would be over too quickly, but life sentences in prison pose IMHO no real threat for such specimens, because with the protective HA in the background their lifes could possibly become even better than on the outside. >[Only by writing all this I was gradually able to stop crying. All my opinion. Even if nobody reads this, I had to get this off my chest. This case will haunt me for a long time, but the friends must not be forgotten.]< Even if this makes me a terrible person: Constant pain without the prospect of relief would be MY idea of a personalized way to make the perpetrators acutely aware of every passing minute for the rest of their lives. There are many painful and debilitating, yet slowly progredient health conditions, like e.g. inflammations of scars, sensitivity to foreign materials (piercings!), diverse types of cancer, or painful degradation of parts of the musculo-sceletal system. Nearly every aging body develops one or more of those afflictions sooner or later, which as often as not can be treated. In my opinion (and experience) it is very difficult to live with the conditions, if the according therapies over time lose their efficiency, or if the patient can not tolerate the specific treatment. Punishment should ideally educate and show perpetrators the error of their ways, so I wish on them to maker the constant and irredeemable experience of a fraction of the pain and suffering that they inflicted on three innocent men.

I usually enjoy your commentary but today I want to point something out. 0:35 describing someone's visual appearance that deviates from the norm as looking like "something straight out of a horror movie" is problematic to me. It doesn't help alternative-looking folks that often enough are subject to bullying, discrimination, or unfounded suspicion because of upheld stereotypes like this. Words have power and I'd like to ask you to not throw someone's appearance out there like that - it does not add anything to the contents of the video. I do know a whole bunch of people that look similar: including face tattoos, tunnels in their noses, or unusual piercings and in general "sinister looking". They get antagonized based on that a lot, most of them were physically harmed because of it, and none of them is anything close to a felon. They are just people. Edit: ok, I couldn't clearly see the "666" in the first shot. Still, my point still stands. There are harmless wild-looking people out there.
