I don't know if it was the plan or just his personality, but Waylon became the MC and the star of the Highwaymen concerts. The others were great at singing their parts and their own songs, but Waylon made them into a cohesive group.

I think Waylon's personality was always more playful than any of the others and a boy band of grumpy old men wasn't going to sell, so the fella that never out grew the kid inside him naturally took the frontman's job. At least, that's mho.

I’m 80 and have been listening to Kris since the early 70’s. Best there has ever been song writer. Saw him a few times in Ireland over the years and it was just something else.
