Great Vid. Glad to see the Soldano name, living on. I met Mike, when he was building his 1st prototypes. He's a cousin, to my late wife. We met at Family Reunion, in the early '80's. I was in College and he was not far out of High School. I was a Music & Audio Engineering student; rebuilding vintage tube Hi-Fi amps; as a hobby. We got on, straight away; geeking out about transformers and bias circuits & tone. He was also amazing, at guitar electronics. I went to his house (nxt door, to family reunion) and we talked guitars & amps; all evening. After that - I was excited, for him, each time a noted musician bought his gear. Once he got an amp to Mark Knopfler, and from there to Clapton, the rest is history. As a side note, I REALLY REALLY want a SLO30!

Why do people always complain about the price of Mike's amps? These are Ferraris, not Kias. Sure, your Kia has 4 wheels and takes you from here to there, but it is NOT a Ferrari. That's why it costs so much less. Mike made " Jet City Amps" just for you pinches pobres (GREAT amps too, btw). You could even get them customized/ modified by MIKE HIMSELF in Seattle, and you guys still weren`t happy. Rationalize how your lower tiered amp is "just as good" or "even better" than the real thing all you like . Just have the decency to do it somewhere else.
@davel_ggw5 жыл бұрын
Obviously it is either people who have never plugged into one (which really does have the effect on you that Henning experienced, they are THAT good), or the tone is simply not exactly what they want, which is purely subjective. There is no amp that is objectively better than a Soldano, it just comes down to the subjective issue of personal preference. Well, some people mentioned features, midi, etc., but some of us don't give a flying f about such things, it's all about the tone, feel, response, etc. There are plenty of great amps out there, not all of them are for every player however, but most players should be able to find something to love about a few of them, for their own unique attributes, that you simply can't get out of any other amp. And you should own and love all of those if at all possible lol.

Every time I see Mr. EytschPi in one of his wonderful videos, I cannot help but wonder how related we are genetically. My father is Irish (Irish who emigrated from Germany. My surname Hillard is the anglicized version of Hilliard which is again a Irish/English version of Hildegarde, which means in the Teutonic languages of old "Citadel" or "Guardian In War." My mother's bloodline is straight from the German/Polish/Ukrainian/Russian border. Yes, there is a place on the map where all of those wonderful nations converge (and every few years invade each other lolol). Mr. EytschPi looks almost EXACTLY like my German/Polish/Russian/Ukrainian (and a touch, like 1/4 Norwegian -- long story) grandfather. So every time that I see Mr. EytschPi I see and hear the grandfather that I lost to heart disease as a pre-teen boy. Like Mr. EytschPi I am a career metal musician and we share a face, body type and hairline (I am not happy about it either -- thanks grandpa lolol) and musical styles and influences that we play and listen to. Mr. EytschPi even sounds like my immigrant grandfather when speaking English with the same accent. So, I always wonder how much DNA we share! It really makes you wonder about nature versus nurture. If a song bird is hatched from an egg and never hears its song, it still knows how to sing that song. HOW? Makes on think... So, I cannot help but to take an irrational liking to an already likable fellow, who's shows I undoubtedly would have been watching regardless of sharing DNA or not. I, however, do NOT share Mr. EytschPi's love of novelty shirts! I DENOUCE the wearing of loud, novelty shirts! I am a lifetime wearer of loud novelty SOCKS and sometimes loud, novelty wigs!!! But SHIRTS! I DENOUNCE THEE!!! 😁 Thanks again for another fine video. Yes, I did not see this one either cousin, but I only comment in one out of every few dozen I see. But thank you I do love the video and everything that you are doing with our shared genes! Stay metal and stay well!!! Thanks!

I also rescue animals cousin. My friends think that I am mentally ill as I often cannot find new homes for the animals that I also shelter! I once had ten cats! I have had 15 ferrets. I cannot keep all of the dogs that I sheltered too big so I have to find homes for them. I had so many ferret cages and you have to let them out the vast majority of the day so I would practice as they all would play and climb over me, like the pied piper of troubled weasels. Thank you, cousin. Do not worry I am not a crazy person. Just a similar soul like you who shares distant DNA and is surprised by how you look like my grandfather and how similar someone who looks like one of my relatives has similar interests and passions, like the rescue of animals. Thank you, please have a pleasant day! And bless you for you work with rescuing animals! As I write this one of my rescue cats comes into my arms. They are all so gentle now. Anyway. Thanks and have a pleasant day!

To be honest, i build a SLO 5 Years ago with the features he explained. It is really cool for modern metal but you need an overdrive if you want the full package. 4k is really a lot of money tbh. But he is right the Dual rectifier is the same schematic only a few components are different but the rest is the same. But you get more options with the tube rectifier and the diode rectifier. Also if you look at the switching matrix of a Dual rectifier it is really expensive withe all the components. So yes the schematic is almost a rip off but at least it got some features and costs less.

I will take a Soldano circuit over any other for metal, 5150 is based on it so is the Dual Rec , the 5150 was based on the sound at least, and the Dual Rec literally is the same circuit, of the same topology (the 5150 is also not that far off, bit further than the dual rec but still circuit wise a similar thing). Anyone who does not think Soldano circuits do heavy well, is an idiot or just ignorant or both. I have a 5150 block, and a Jet City JCA50, and a JCM800, The 5150 is an immense amp so brutal, but the Jet City is better. Does better clean , takes pedals better in the front and the Hi gain is on par with the 5150, a little less brutal, but tighter and smoother. Unless you are doing full on Death tech shit where is always uber brutal...the Jet is the better amp, it does everything else better , and can still do uber brutal (think a 5150 on 98% brutality). That amp cost me £250, its a chinese pcb, but because its based on a Soldano (Hot Rod 50 I think?) its fucking amazing, the JCM 800 i have dont even get a look in, the 5150 is a 1 trick pony, the Jet has all bases covered. If you are younger maybe and dont know what a Soldano circuit is like, its like an Fender on the clean and a 5150/dual rec on the drive

Quality amps not made in China cost money. If they are worth it - it only depends on if you want them to last for years and years. Lets see how many of the cheap chinese amps last 30-40 years like some of the classic Soladano's or MESA BOOGIEs for example.
@TONEWARSgearshow5 жыл бұрын
@@PoltergeistWorks thanks for responding. I agree that American handmade amps are definitely better. That said, these amps are vastly overpriced. They're not even offering any other features. I have a Victory Super Kraken that's priced way lower and it's a hundred watts and has tons of great features on it. @@TONEWARSgearshow this is a Soldano still, and you get quality for the price. If you would find the same quality with even more features, it would be above the 2500 mark. Wizard offers a 25watts version of the famous MCII, 3500USD. Suhr has the new Pete Thorn model, 15watts with a lot of options, 3000USD. Soldano is not overpriced, it's just that these amps have these prices. Friedman had an other approach and made 20-40watts amps that were a tad cheaper, but they don't have as many features, are not all handbuilt. Their new double channel Dirty Shirley ( Twin Sisters ) is also at 2800USD with less features than the SLO30, but 10watts more.
