The King of Fighters 2001 playthrough (Dreamcast) (1CC)

Playthrough with the Art of Fighting team. For the longest time, I'd never managed to one credit clear this game as the bosses would just kick my ass instantly. I got lucky with this playthrough. Original Zero I can usually take down, but Igniz is just stupidly over-powered and probably the cheapest boss I've ever had the displeasure of fighting. Eolith took things too far with him.
This is one of my least favorite KoFs. I don't like the artwork, I don't like how it now costs super gauge to use strikers and I'm not a fan of the team setup system either (where you can have multiple strikers at the expense of having fewer characters to actually fight with). The Dreamcast version is a good conversion, and again has a puzzle mode, but ehhh...I'd stick with any of the other KoFs for the Dreamcast.
The Dreamcast port was only released in Japan.

Honestly 2001 is one of my favorite kof games,mainly because it had the best use of the striker system imo,because it actually let you set how many strikers you want,or you can just have all 4 members fight. Also eolith did a great job at making the game feel like the other striker games gameplay wise,despite being a different developer than snk. Honestly this game gets too much hate for what it's worth.

Yeah too much hate. My problems is that you have to use super for the striker, ignis is ridiculously strong and the soundtrack sucks overall for me.

+SuperPaperMario700 yeah true that. did you know that there is quite a lot rejected art for 2001? for example first official art for Angel had her band over, look back and hold her butt. or Kula pressing on Diana's boobs with her boobs looking at the viewer... yeah. interesting that KoF 2001 is so infamous for its gameplay AND art. if you want to see these artworks go to snkwiki.

From my memory, doing Ratio 4 Robert with 3 strikers makes Igniz super easy, at least for me.

This 2001-XI peroid was very dissapointing to me. The games were OK but it didn't have the same polish level of the priors. Also, I don't like the "tag" system they included on 2003 and XI - those two I only like to play on the Arcade Mode on PS2 without the tag system.

The tag system in XI and 2003 were the best part of those games. That battles could literally only last 1 minute or less, and that's my kind of gameplay, fast paced battles. The only thing I didn't like was the Leader System.

The Useless Channel the problem with that is that the game was already very fast and has gone even faster with this tag system and became almost unplayable to "slow" players

@@JornadaGamer the tag system was great. I loved the faced pace fights. They were way more fun to me. Which is one of the reasons why XI is my favourite KOF game. The neogeo port for 2003 could get glitchy and the presentation was a bit poor but I still like it. But ps2 version is great.

I’d be curious to know why this game isn’t considered as good as a lot of the other games in the series? I mean to be honest I’ve played it and to me it’s just another typical kof game really. Nothing really too special about it or bad about it. The only notable flaws I feel it has are the crappy new art style, pretty meh music, and bosses more difficult than most kof games. Other than that, it just feels like a typical kof. So I’d like to hear why this game has a less stellar reception?
