That's good to see you cut some area out for the dogs to get around. Have to keep mans best friend happy. You looked a little cold out there, those heated grips are nice. I put heated grips on the last blower I had, but they were not as warm as they are on my Ariens that came with them. I like your tips on blower safety, that clean-out tool is there to be used. And if damaged it can replaced, your hand not so much!!!! Lefty 🤣

It was your typical storm comes through, high pressure follows, and temp drops 20 degrees. Glad you felt the saftey message was important. Too easy to be in a hurry, and take chances. I know I need to remind myself the snows not worth getting hurt…slow down and don’t get hurt when it comes to cleaning that chute or bucket.

The Ariens kicking much ass again, Bruce!! The heated grips are a great feature. The ones on my Troy-Bilt 3090 work too damn good. Lol I have to turn them on/off/on or else my hands start cooking. ;)

Dog Toys!!! Arrrrgghhh! Great story: You haven't lived until your snowblower launches a Kong Ball! Luckily it didn't hit a neighbors house or car: It flew out into the woods behind the house and landed about 150' away. We were taking care of my son's black Field Lab so I took him out and just gave the command: "find the ball!" He knows what this game is and off he went: 5 minutes later back he comes with it! Good Dog!!! too funny!

That’s funny Chris. I hit a chuckit ball with the lawnmower that was hidden by some long grass. It bent the blade, and came out from under that Toro Recycler like a rocket. It was one of the balls that whistles when you throw it, so it went screaming Acrossed the yard. This time it was a donkey the dogs had pulled all the squeakers out of it and the stuffings. After iI hit it, I came around the front of the machine and saw the donkey tail sicking out the front of the bucket. I hadn’t seen that thing in a while, and I thought …I guess I found it. I laughed out loud when I saw it.

I worked in an upstate NY ER several years ago and saw an X-ray of a crowbar that penetrated a skull from below the jaw and out the back of the skull. Shouldn’t stick anything down the chute before the engine is shut off and the cycle is completed. 1:27

Hi Carroll… this is super odd as I responded to this comment, and it’s appearing again with no response from me??? Well let’s try again. You are completely correct. Even though machines (now a days) have safety features designed to shut off the auger/impeller as soon as you release the handlebars, do not depend on them. A mechanical failure, or a piece of clothing that gets hooked, or s curious child “I trying to help” can result in serious injury.. Once the engine is stopped, use the plastic clean out tool provided. If that doesn’t work to clear the obstruction. Remove the key ( machine is already shut off) and pull off the spark plug wire to make sure it cannot start. Then carefully clear the obstruction. Thanks for providing a real life example of what can happen if you don’t follow this advice. We all need to be reminded of this periodically… including myself! Thanks for the + comment.

I have owned Snow Boy, MTD, Reo Wheel Horse, Simplicity, Toro, & Ariens over the years. I’ve had a chance to use Troy Built Storms, Allis Chalmers, & Bolens. The best built snowblower I’ve ever had was a toss up between my early 80’s Toro 824, and an early 90’s Simplicity 8 Hp SnowAway. How er, the best all around snowblower I’ve ever had the pleasure to use is my Ariens 24@ Platinum SHO. It is the best mix of features, power, maneuverability, and Engineering I’ve ever owned. So I agree “Ariens, The King of Snow” is at the top of the mountain of blowers! Thanks for the + comment.

While I had heated handle grips on my last snowblower, they did not work nearly as well as the ones on my new Ariens 28" Deluxe SHO. They literally make a huge difference in cold and windy conditions in Maine.

@@blowingsnow4fun I really think my hand grips heat even better since I swapped to the LED headlamp: More capacity from the alternator to supply them perhaps? I could feel them through the gloves before, but I can really feel them now!
@blowingsnow4fun
@blowingsnow4fun Жыл бұрын
That makes sense… less voltage draw to power the LED, so there’s more available for the grips. I really didn’t notice as it was sooo much colder when I used them in my last video. Today it was 33 out, never even turned them on:)

Hi Caroll… you are entirely correct. Don’t rely on the safety devices of any snowblower or lawnmower. They are all designed ( now a days ) to stop turning, or running when the handgrips are released. A mechanical failure, or a piece of clothing getting caught on a control can result in severe injury. As I indicated, I should have shut off my blower off as soon as I saw something was in or near the auger/impeller. Never stick anything in a running machine. Always use the plastic clean out tool to clear the impediment after you shut the machine off. If you can’t clear the object with the plastic clean out tool, remove the key, and pull the wire off the spark plug before working to remove the object. Thanks for providing a real life example of what can result. It’s a great reminder for all of us who depend on these machines to clear snow…including me! Thanks for the + comment!

Hey Andy… yah this is the first machine I’ve ever had with them on, and I never thought much about it. They are really nice! I wish I had them on the old machines up North. Man I’ll tell you when it’s below zero, and that winds blowing, and my cabin isn’t warmed up yet, I’ve had my hands so cold I couldn’t even feel those grips more than once. Next machine you’ll get them!

Hey SF….Thanks for the + comment. Here in Wi (most winters), the ground freezes hard as concrete thus locking the roots in place. Under the snow in that video, there was a layer of ice under the snow as well, that’s why I was bugging the machine with my hip to get it rolling. The most damaging thing for the grass here I when it gets exposed to de-icing chemicals like salt, and calcium chlorinate. Grass exposed to de-icers never comes back in spring. Your point is well taken though. In years that we get a lot of freezing & thawing with no snow, the turf will get tore up if I don’t lift up on the front end of the machine. If you like videos like this, and haven’t already, please consider subscribing to the channel.

Recommend you go out and get yourself a pair of Stihl Pro hearing protectors: save your hearing. They have the highest DBA reduction of any of them. Husky's are good too. Did you ever get the combo clean-out/brush tool? I'm adding the composite skid shoes and the front weight kit this year: tired of it riding up at the least little opportunity. Your vids are great! Stay safe.

@blowingsnow4fun Жыл бұрын
Hey Chris…no, never picked up the pro clean out tool. Thanks for the recommendation and concern about the hearing protection. If I’m running an air hammer, or shooting anything but a .22 I wear them. I’ve tried them running the chain saw, running the lawn tractor, and I wear 3m foam plugs inconsistently. When running the snow blowers I don’t as when I go out in the road to turn around, etc, I can’t hear approaching traffic. You’ll like the composite skid shoes. They give the machine a much smother feel than the metal ones. I’m real curious as to how your going to like the extra weight up front. I have an odd set up here at the end of my drive. I’m not the original owner here, but when this subdivision was built they didn’t put in curbs. They put in a depression in the concrete designed to Cary water away, but is rough when you drive over it with the car entering g or exiting the drive. It’s tough going up it or down it with the blower as you can’t really feel the dip, and it’s easy to leave the snow in the depression, which doesn’t bother my truck, but sometimes creates problems for the car, as our driveway is a slight upgrade, and it causes you to loose momentum when entering. Good to hear from you, and let me know how the weight works out

Hi, how long does it take for the heated handles to work ?
@blowingsnow4fun
@blowingsnow4fun Жыл бұрын
They start working almost immediately. However, the thickness of your gloves, and the outside temp has a direct bearing on how fast you feel your hands warm up. When it’s above 30, you just need them initially to take the chill out of the metal, and turn them in for a minute or 2 ever 10 minutes. When it’s say 0, you can just leave them on if your wearing gloves without your hands sweating. Thanks for the + comment!

Hi floobertuber…LOL can’t seem to get rid of those darn bears! My wife hates the look of the radon system, so da bears are her solution. I would have run the radon system out of the basement around the corner so you couldn’t see it from the kitchen window, but it was put in by the previous owners. Good to hear from you!

@@blowingsnow4fun It's pretty well camouflaged as things stand, I only noticed it because of the bears, ha ha! For what it's worth, I really enjoy your videos. It's ASMR-like relaxation, as far as I'm concerned! Also I will try to remember to post my own opinion re: the Platinum SHO 24, once we have a real snow down here in SE WI to put it up against. I bought one of my own back in June, for full MSRP... and now it's on sale for $150 less, plus a 2-year warranty extension. D'oh! That's what I get for NOT procrastinating for once!!!
