The Kings Singers - Just fantastic from the very start to the present day. There have been many changes of singer but the quality is always always fab. These guys make it sound so easy but the fact is, to sing as they do, takes excellent musicianship. Thank you for posting this. Baz

Anthony Holt was (and may still be) on the music faculty of St Olaf College, in Northfield, Minnesota. Both he and his wife joined the faculty of the school many years ago. The school has, as one of its musical groups, the famed St Olaf Choir -- easily one of the finest a cappella choirs in the world. Anthony is the tallest singer in the quartet and sings the lead part on "I'm My Own Grandpa." He and the other 3 members of this quartet were among the 6 original members of the King's Singers.

I have been a fan of the King's Singers since 1979 and had the pleasure of seeing them in concert twice in the 1980s and early 90s. I had heard the "Own Grandpa" arrangement before -- by the Dealer's Choice barbershop champion quartet in 1976. In 1975, they recorded it on an album named "Choice II." It was arranged by one or more of the following: Brian Beck, John Piercy, and Jim Clancy. I suspect the King's Singers borrowed the arrangement from the Dealer's Choice and they sang it with only a few chord changes. Too bad the Dealer's Choice rendition is not on KZbin -- you would be surprised by how well it was sung by them.

This is the same line up who sang 'The Barber of Seville' and Jeremy is singing Counter-tenor next to Alastair, with Bill, then Anthony, Simon and Brian.. Oh and another FABULOUS post, with the same line-up again, singing 'Short People'

It's called "Home, Sweet Home" and was written in 1823. You can find the information about it on wikipedia.

I have it on Video. I remember at the time they were going to simulcast it on the local Public Broadcasting FM station, but there was some pre-emption or other, so we were stuck with the crappy mono track on the VHS tape. It's pretty worn now, it's been played so much.

For everyone who asks when this was I think I may have found the answer. Just look at the dates for the members. First countertenor- Nigel Perrin 1970-1978 Second countertenor- Alastair Hume 1968-1993 Tenor- Bill Ives 1978-1985 First baritone- Simon Carrington 1968-1993 Second baritone- Anthony Holt 1970-1987 Bass- Brian Kay 1968-1982 So we can conclude that it was sometime in 1978, since Bill Ives joined 1978 and Nigel Perrin quit in 1978

@ThirteenthMuse I think it is Nigel Perrin. I really like this stage of the group, one of my favorite tenors is Bill Ives, although Paul Phoenix is very good as well.

The line up here is: Jeremy Jackman, Alastair Hume, Bill Ives, Anthony Holt, Simon Carrington, Brian Kay. (1980-1982) The first song however might be lip synced because the tenor part really sounds like Alastair Thompson rather than Bill Ives.

Not meaning to sound ignorant or even strange, but why are the audience dressed in such old attire if this was in like the 70s, they look like more edwardian outfits :/

They were recreating a Victorian or Edwardian music hall atmosphere. And it looked good to the TV audience.
