So summer of 1979, I was 17 and livin…My Sharona explodes, then Good Girls Don’t gets radio play next quickly followed up by (She’s So) Selfish, I was blown away by this band, but it wasn’t till one morning I woke up and the radio played this jamm and that was it, I was sold and bought the Get The Knack album, and wore it out, add in Let Me Out, Number Or Your Name, Lucinda, That’s What The Little Girls Do and my favorite song Oh Tara and there was my soundtrack for that glorious pre Senior year summer of glorious memories!! Still play this album and all my Knack albums to this day!! Such an under rated band! RIP Doug and Bruce…

Berton Averre is a highly underrated guitarist. Amazing licks and solos. RIP, Doug.

That’s why you never hear a guitar player try to copy his long version lead break on My Sharona…I got to see The Knack about 5 times and talked to Berton a couple of times he’s such a nice dude.

This song is the best fucken tune of the album next to "My Sharona". bought this album in 79 when it first came out and thought it was the balllz !! I think Bruce Gary is a very good drummer and as in most knack songs his drums are the driving force. this can also be attributed to Mike Chapman and his producing of this album. the whole album cost less than 50 grand and I believe took about 14 days. recorded live in one shots, rather than everything being done with overdubs (just solos and some of Fieger's background Vox) "Frustrated" also has one of the best outro's in rock n roll. its punk, its rock, its blues, all the above. I think we can all agree the band "Jett" sounds incredibly similar in many ways.

Selfish is my favorite, but there’s so many good songs on this album take your pick…and they have to be the “R” rated versions not the wimpy versions they had to remake for radio airplay after the FCC discovered some of the language they used on the original album….👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

A message to all radio stations worldwide....YOU are pathetic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Good Girls Don't", "Frustrated", "She's so Selfish" could have easily been No 1s as well. But no " They thrash "My Sharona" & give their other songs little or no airplay whatsoever. Then have the audacity to call The Knack one hit wonders. Really? Like 45 years later & I still enjoy this album like it was just released.

Should have been the second single! A riff hard enough to please rock radio. Get the Knack album was recorded in just two weeks at a cost of only $18,000. That's how you make it sound raw.

@ATamandua I do agree with you to a certain extent, but several bands and more singers had already started adopting that white shirt skinny tie look, usually worn with a jacket. Maybe they were more avant garde than I'm aware of. But the thing that really marked The Knack as not-yer-average-garage-band was front man Fiegers eighth of an inch bangs. They'd have been seen to be strange even on a woman! LOL! And I definitely have a hard time keeping still when I hear their music.

I've got to be honest - these four guys looked like they were a quartet of upperclassman from the Alpha Epsilon Pi house at your nearest main state university. They didn't look like the Beatles (outfits notwithstanding). They weren't really 'longhairs". They certainly didn't look "punk" at the time, either. But those AEPi looks didn't bely the musicianship underneath. To be honest, I don't like a lot of their lyrics in retrospect. But, MAN, could they get your feet moving...
@dogdyedblack3 жыл бұрын
I was just thinking much the same. The lyrics are obnoxious and Doug Fieger was hardly a charming front man--but the songs themselves and the playing!...one of the great bands of all time on that score. I love listening to the guitar/bass/drum interplay. My Sharona isn't one of my fave songs of theirs, but every time I hear that guitar solo, I have to stop what I'm doing and my jaw drops....

What? The whole point of the song is an exaggerated commentary about the alpha male who is expecting his comic book sex fantasy but doesn't get it because the girl is pulling the strings. Anyway Doug always kind of emoted the songs live, or on video. They weren't Van Halen, so that's the way they rolled.
