I always thought the sgain dubh was gimmick kept alive by love of tradition from our scottish friends. But like the tanto, it has a place in history and tradition for a reason, even if modern versions aren't always effective. With the right tweaks a small knife like this can be a great cutter and very useful. Its good that you have figured out such an effective version. I still cant believe how great it cut through rope right at the tip.

@@darylbrenton4839 Right? I’ve been the same way! So many BUDK reproductions that I kind of wrote it off as a show knife. But after making one I found, as you commented, you get tons of leverage towards the top because of the straightish blade, and that mirrored handle is actually great for all sorts of grips! Now I’m hooked on the sgain dubh! Haha. Thanks Daryl so much for watching and commenting.

They are actually so useful here in Scotland we have 3 sized knifes for specific uses Sgian Dubh is for utility uses then the Sgian achlais was for skinning and butchering then the dirk for combat

@@SYNosiris Then I really honored you like mine! Hey have you heard of Fandabidozi? He has really promoted the Sgain Dubh and traditional Scottish gear and woodcraft on KZbin. He’s done an amazing job I think. If you’re interested my newest video is another Sgain Dubh just slightly more modernized with a Micarta handle.

I like your work, and I find the idea of expounding on the virtues of archaic tools as relevant solutions to modern needs while wearing an instant Ramen shirt deliciously ironic. A tip for your website; it would be helpful to include specs for each knife, i.e. blade length, thickness, height, OAL, handle material, etc.

@@geneshin7031 Hahaha What’s more ancient than noodles?! lol. Thank you, I absolutely need to do that, in fact I wrote a note for myself to add that to the site. Thanks so much for engaging with the video and the website!
