Not critics as a whole, but there was a guy who complained Monsters University was just a collection of college film cliches. They complained it was too similar to the films it was clearly trying to tribute. That would be like me makung a movie in the vein of 80s fantasy films as a spiritual successor, and then critics go "it's too dark and weird, and will probably scare children." Yeah, because Dark Crystal, Neverending Story and Secret of NIMH were TOTALLY NOT FAMOUS FOR THAT!

here is a funny point, one of my former high school teachers was an extra in that movie and if you watch it back you can find her dancing around in the stands in one of the cuts to the crowd during the opening sequence and this was something I learned when it was one of those days when my class actually finished their work for once and was allowed to relax and watch a movie that week as an incentive to keep grades up

A few years back my Dad made a comment about this movie that made me go back and watch it again with a whole new understanding of the film. He said that it’s a sports movie. I went back and watched it, and sure enough, it has all the common tropes of a sports movie including the classic sports jams in the soundtrack. It just happens that it focuses on a sport that you don’t see too much of nowadays, but that doesn’t make it any less a sports movie.

What i love about A Knight's Tale is that they pretend he is a knight from Gelre, a dutch province. They only know it as Gelderland and assume Gelre is somewhere else. So as someone who comes from that area, it's nice to see a big movie referencing too it.

For whatever reason I had multiple opportunities to re-watch it which I did and the more I did, the more I enjoyed it. It's not a great film, but as long as you don't take it too seriously its a charming story and I liked some of the choices they made such as incorporating more contemporary music into the film as opposed to something period specific.

U. v. Lichtenstein is also important to us Slovenes, because he was of Slovene decent (from Styria) and spoke our language - he was a minne-poet and his are some of the early written down examples of our language being used. Oh, and he did travel as dressed as a "slovene wife" and got greeted as "Venus, noble Queen, be thy welcome!" :-D It's always a fun part, when studying Slovene Language to come to Lichtenstein. Talking about big actors in earlier roles, I think Sean Bean's first on screen death was in the Derek Jarman's film "Caravaggio". And if you don't know who Derek Jarman was - he was as gay and avant-garde as it gets, and "Caravaggio" is no exception (nothing as gay and avant-garde as the opening scene of "Sebastiane" but still). Sean actually plays main hero's love interest. Caravaggio also features early Robbie Coltrane and Tilda Swinton (it was her debut role, I believe). And I kind of understand those two, Tilda even proceed to be in other Jarman's films. But Sean Bean?? He's so mainstream now: he hasn't done anything like this after that (if you don't count "War Requiem" - the only other Jarman's film he was in (yes, he also died there, holding a trombone)). How? It seems so funny for some reason.
