Nice Smiling Friends reference. Also this show would've been a lot better if it focus more on Knuckles(such as his relationship with Sonic, his backstory with the echidna tribe, etc) instead of Wade, who from POV is pretty much the live action equivalent of Chris from Sonic X. It's moreso the principle of the people who greenlight these shows fundamentally misunderstanding what fans of this property they're adapting actually want from it. They've been doing it for decades! The Transformers Movie; starring some human randos with special guest stars, the Transformers! Alvin and the Chimpunks; staring Jason fucking Lee and his career troubles. The Smurfs: What do you mean you don't care about Neil Patrick Harris' relationship issues? There's changing certain aspects of an existing property to better fit a different medium than it's origins and then there's using said media property to try and uplift your shitty sitcom script no one wanted to buy. That "Surf Dracula" tweet is evergreen; "back in the day if u did a tv show called surf dracula you'd see that fool surfing every week in new adventures but in the streaming era the entire 1st season gotta be a long ass flashback to how he got the surfboard until you finally get to see him surf for 5 min in the finale" I watched the Sonic movie to see SONIC. I watched Knuckles to see KNUCKLES. Why is this so hard to understand? I'm sure this is already one of those were people go "HEEYYYY! I liked this show! It was fun!" But was this the show you really wanted to see though? Was an entire show about a man-child's wacky family issues with a bowling competition you really wanted to see for a Knuckles show or did you just like it because it had Sonic's brand on it? Bruh, the Wade scenes was basically the wedding scene from Sonic 2, but worse. This is the problem. We don't need to waste time on the human characters as they don't really add anything to the story we are actually interested in seeing... y'know, the Sonic Adventures where it's him and his friends in their world. Gonna have to disagree. I love this series. I kind like that they focused on Wade, he's one of my favorite side characters and I like that they fleshed him out. The animation's as good as the movies, idris Elba's Knuckles is always a win, and his and Wade's dynamic is hilarious. People just need to stop judging stuff based on what they were expecting rather than what they got, because what we got, is a pretty good time.

Even if it wasn't perfect, atleast it got the characters and the world right. Tying together different games as their own arcs, and deliver some interesting and memorable story elements. It was so much fun watching a show that actualy took inspiration from the games and took the tragedies, sad backgrounds of the characters seriously. A show that does not treat you as if you were an idiot. Most new comers don't know anything about any of the shows, games, nor any of the additional medium. They just want to see Jim Carrey and kil l some time with their kids. If they're making a Sonic movie and claim that its "for the fans", I want them to make a GOD DAMN MOVIE THAT'S ACTUALY MADE FOR THE FANS!!!! Not some cashgrab trash luring normies that'll abandon the series onece they had their fun with it. I want a show/movie that's ACTUALY targeted at me. It felt like borderline false advertisement. Sure, we knew Wade was gonna be in it, but we didn’t know that Knuckles was gonna be treated as a side character. Heck, in most of the advertisements I saw of it, Wade and his family was nowhere to be found, while Knuckles was portrayed to be the character that is front and center.

I find wade endearing despite the shows flaws. The show could use more knuckles but its not like he is nowhere in the show at all. If anyone went in expecting a suprise chaotix reveal or like next to no humans I think you should temper your expectations. It advertised a buddy comedy between wade and knuckles and thats what it delivered. As a show in that regard I think its fine enough. Good news is that since this is a paramount show with a lower budget and next to no effect on characterization. It more than likely wont affect anything about sonic 3. I still say this show shouldve been 2d animated because then there wouldnt have to be as much focus on wade and knuckles would be less expensive to animate, allowing him more screentime.

Except that it's elongated from a few minutes to over an hour (if not more). And not as funny (at least the scene I mentioned was amusing on its own). While there were a few elements that I liked, it was very obvious while watching that this was done by a different writing team than the movies I’ve seen people compare this to the wedding scene from the second movie, but at least that sequence heavily involved the movies’ take on G.U.N (plus it was honestly funnier than the human shenanigans in this show, and it was mainly to break up the main action between the snowboard sequence and the Labyrinth Zone fight just a little bit for pacing reasons)

@@RJTM1991 okay, i am very much aware of all of this. this was more of a joke comment than a real response. i have nothing against the movies, they were a bit goofier and i actually grew up on 06 - probably explaining some bias towards it. 06 was out of place, sure, but the problems people have with the game is mostly for the bugs and part of the story and gameplay. the story itself was fine, minus some of the weird parts. it was revolutionary as a game that actually showed sonic getting killed. 06's story was fine. i love frontiers and i like their newer stuff as well. like i said i'm a major sonic d rider, i absolutely love everything they do. including sonic schoolhouse and aosth. i also like the newer stuff. i just don't like the knuckles series. new fans don't even like the show either, not sure why you'd bring that point up but alright.

@@RJTM1991 you're not sega are you? the franchise has come a far way, and even with the transition it was pretty rough. if you want to talk about games that killed the point - talk about shadow's game in 05. his character was definitely not one that i would consider to be the same in sa2 to shadow 05. there has always been monsters in the franchise, i'm pretty sure iblis's design or idea was taken from chaos (sa2) or metal overlord (sonic heroes). death has always been a thing, the MAIN first death probably being maria. sonic adventure was dark and gritty as well. this is why there's titles for these eras. the classic games are the classic era. the next would be the dreamcast era. we're in the modern era. there is not a lot wrong with 06's story. it's mainly the timing, bugs, gameplay, loading screens, parts of the stories (mainly elise), and how rushed the game was and the unprepared team. project 06 is more beloved than the original and what people usually flock to, that being said, it doesn't take away from the story. only changing gameplay mechanics and a bit of tweaking.

@@RJTM1991 ALSO if we want to talk about the classic era, we shouldn't skip over the early archie comics and the shows. the archie comics were edgier than 06 was. sonic was a complete dickhead, opposed to 06 and the sonic we know. that's why things change. in SATAM uncle chuck is sonic's uncle that becomes roboticized, it is a dark scene in the show because sonic is quite emotionally hung up about it. tragedy and grittiness has always existed in the sonic franchise. including sonic's nightmare in SATAM of being physically unable to save sally. in sonic x (2003) following the sa2 timeline, there are many scenes that can be disturbing or distressing. let's not forget the dead soldiers morphing into the trees. 06 might've been the first time we've seen sonic die, but not the first time someone has died in the sonic series. it was a turning plot point because sonic dying was the thing that made elise cry and release iblis. not to mention everyone's backstories. especially knuckles's.

The final battle of this show was just a alternate version of the final battle in the first movie. Show: The show has Knuckles knocked out while Wade gives an emotional speech about how Knuckles is his friend and that gives him the power to wake up, take back his power and just full on demolish the Buyer. Sonic Movie 1: Robotnik had wounded Sonic badly and Tom fights Robotnik and then goes on to deliver a speech about how Sonic's home was Green Hills and that gives Sonic the power to wake up, take back his power and just full on demolish Robotnik before exiling him to the Mushroom Planet.

How could the story of the series have been? Here's an idea: The Master Emerald is stolen and Knuckles embarks on a mission to recover it (it can be alone or accompanied by Tom), at some point it is revealed that the thief was Rouge who stole it for the Hard Boiled Heavies (here they would be human versions with advanced weapons that adapt their abilities from the games). It is revealed that Rouge is not bad as such, she was simply fulfilling a contract. After defeating the bad guys, recovering the Emerald (incidentally, Rouge would flirt a little with Knuckles) and returning home, it would be revealed to us that the bat works for GUN and already got the information they needed, preparing the ground for the third movie.

Its probably because I had 0 expectations, but I honestly didn't think it was that bad. Mainly two because I already have the pieces of Sonic media I like and can go back to so I don't need this Knuckles show to be the greatest piece of fiction of all time. What I have personally learned about Sonic media is really just don't go in expecting the greatest thing ever. The old memories and enjoyment of enjoying the older media will never come back with the new stuff. Not even trying to be cynical or anything but I think its just kind of the truth. I mean I will admit I was hoping for a lot of stuff in the Knuckles show but also at the same time its the Sonic Movie universe, its for the casuals and not the fans. Knuckles is the focus for the first three episodes, Wade rescues Knuckle in the second but they're only able to escape because of Knuckles and his abilities. Knuckles straight up saves Wade and his entire family from mercenaries in the third episode. I'd argue the last 3 episodes pivot to having Wade as a central focus. It's very much a buddy cop movie with both getting a great amount of focus. Even in the fourth episode which is Wade focused, when Wade is kidnapped there's an entire spiritual sequence in which he has to find his true warrior by reenacting Knuckles origins and essentially becoming Knuckles in this warrior forged play. So even in the episode without Knuckles...you're still getting Knuckles. Is Wade the narrative focus, yes, but it's not like they withheld these details. When the show got announced they said Wade was gonna be a protégé of Knuckles and a major focus from the get go.

The last two Sonic shows have been pretty bad in my eyes. Sonic prime had so much promise and season 3 was just abysmal. Watching the first two episodes of knuckles I thought they were okay then we met the sister and it just went straight down for me. She literally kicks, punches, and stabs her own brother with a fork and the mom can only just be sad that her kids don't get along and yet does not even mention her son getting stabbed with a fork at all. My main problem with this show is that they doubled down way too hard on the goofy nonsense. If I remember correctly, that random dance battle in the middle of the second movie was one of the things people hated the most about it. The thing that makes the movies so good is that they are mostly true to the source material and feel like you're watching a video game most of the time. This show did not hit that same mark. I’m a Jewish Sonic fan so the third episode was the high point of the whole show for me. I didn’t get the knuckles show that I wanted but let me tell you I got something I didn’t know I wanted from that episode

excusing the lack of knuckles in his own show because of the fact that CGI is expensive is so funny because the real solution is to not make the show. i would have rathered this not existed. i was looking forward to this because while i HATED the first paramount sonic movie, i was pleasantly surprised by the second. i still dont love the human characters honestly, theyre all unlikable to me, and i dont love sonic's characterization. if you want a sonic story with annoying human characters featuring his friends, just watch sonic x. pretty cool series
