I loved your music and your story! The Kora is one of my favourite instruments. Thank you for sharing your music and story! And thanks for the TEDx Talks and TEDx Canton team for sharing.

Wish I could have been a fly on the wall for his backstage performance with Toumani. What an honor to be invited to visit and study with him! A 70th generation Kora player, just amazing. I think the whole story of him visiting Toumani is a great example of the beauty in a cultural exchange. There’s humor, struggle, excitement, kindness, growth/learning, respect, connection. The idea of passing down a musical tradition mentally (without notation or recording capability) is a mind trip!

Well, 70 generations ist to be taken with a grain of salt. In Africa, literal truth is not that important. Toumani rarher wanted to express the deep roots in family tradition. "Toumani’s father, Sidiki Diabaté, however, told a different version of this story. On multiple occasions, the elder Diabaté traced his lineage back seven generations to Jali Mady Wuleng."
