I believe Brown Eyed Girls was the first group to have a comeback with a member from a different agency, but I don't know how that was promoted, so I think 2pm really made it work on a bigger scale, Taec has been on every show, program and radio with them, he shows up in JYPE yt videos, and he's doing all that while recording for his own drama, that gotta be exhausting, but he's still so committed with 2PM and seems happier than ever to be promoting with them again. You can really sense how determined they are to stay as a group and how close they all are, that's not easy thing to find in kpop either. 2PM really is one of a kind

@@secretlyadragon4723 nope ga.in, miryo and Jea stayed with mystic entertainment while Narsha left mystic at the start of 2019 because she believed that mystic wasent really doing to well with handling her solo career, she's talked about it on knowing bros, and they had one comeback in 2019 with there cover album which was there first album after 4 years and they haven't released anything since then, it's an amazing album by the way you should listen to it, and they all agreed to appear togther on variety shows for promotions, and music shows togther.

The reason JYP was so involved in his older groups is because JYP wasn’t as big as it is now. He has even said 2PM as a group really kept them afloat as a company for a very long time. I’m not sure what the income is like now for JYP but Junho said in 2017 that 2PM still made the most profit for JYP. JYP also said once that he’s sad that he isn’t as close to TWICE as he is with WG

I think one of the reasons Taecyeon promoting with 2pm has worked is because 51k is specifically an acting company (so there is less of a conflict of interest) and they are viewing his work with 2pm as a good way for him to promote himself. They've even posted some fan cams and bts. I think it also helps that 2PM has a decent amount of power and autonomy within JYP.

What you said about Wooyoung is correct as he really doesn't follow trends. He even said he hates trends. He might sound like JYP. But he has studied music a lot and super into jazz stuff for awhile so this song kinda have that vibe. As I see this, it's all Wooyoung. The lyrics, sound and even the funny MV is so Wooyoung. 2PM IS the first kpop group to ever make a comeback even though Taec signed with a different agency. The thing about 2PM is that the members are really tightknit and Taec left not because there were any conflicts between the members themselves, he just wanted to focus more on his acting career. What's great about the situation they're in is that the agreement between the two agencies, JYP and 51k, where Taec is still allowed to be in 2PM even though he left. My opinion is that, most of the reasons that other kpop groups (never disbanded but had signed with different agencies) that had want to make a comeback but couldn't are that they never got to an agreement on how to manage the groups, and who gets the most profit, etc. Granted, Taec being the only one that signed with a different agency made it easier for them, but still, if an agency is stubborn or greedy, the comeback still wouldn't happen even if all the members wanted to. Take IOI or IZ*ONE, for example, there were talks of them reuniting and making a comeback, but at the end of the day, the talk between the agencies fell through, so it couldn't happen.

I’ve been a fan of 2PM since their debut in 2008. When Jaybum left, Taec eventually stepped up as sort of a leader. They agreed that there was no new leader as they will just continue as 6 members of 2PM. But Taec have this American influence as he lived in Boston for 7 years. So he usually represents the group when discussing with the company people and jyp himself. To a point that JYP doesn’t want to answer his phone call. He usually calls to tell JYP the members rejects his song or give comments to his songs haha. Poor JYP. But they are the biggest earner for JYP. That’s a fact. Bigger than Suzy when she was under JYP. The members who stayed are all Directors of External affairs for JYPE. I’m sure when they discussed their contract renewal they made that deal. Clever hah~~ and I think Taec played a very important role in this as he has a Masters in economics so he has always had this in mind. He left because he knows going to So Ji Subs company, being the first one to join Ji Subs Solo actor company is going to help him launch his acting career bigger. And he did mentioned when he left JYP, he will still perform with 2PM. The other members kept saying the same thing and ensured fan. He was the first to go to military, but when all the other boys entered or left he will always be there. I never doubted his words. He is such a positive person with a clean, clear mind of what he wants to do in the future. Anyway, the members commented in their comeback show that wooyoung is a worst producer than JYP. It is known that they use to do one whole day of recording for just one word. Thats how details JYP is when he does a song. The apple cannot fall far from the tree people say. Haha I love the comeback. I love that they are so close to each other. Taec said the only reason he can do this is because the whole group compromise so well with regard to different solo schedule they have. They pull all nighter for recording even if Taec or Junho has filming schedules. They proved that they are really together for music, for their friendship and for their fans. One proud hottest here. I never once doubted this comeback because I know that no matter what, 2PM will fulfill their promise. They might be dorks, they might have solo endeavors, but at the end of the day, they always find time to do 2PM things. And can I just share that Taec said that this comeback was already decided even before he went for his military enlistment? That kind of commitment there is very rare. And yeah, I think what really helped them the most to pull off this comeback is that behind the camera, they are good friends. Whenever they have time, they hang out with each other. They call each other from time to time. They check on each other's whereabouts as often as possible. And even before, no matter how busy they are with their individual careers, they always put 2PM on top of their priority list. I mean, there were times that some members had to practice in korea, perform in a concert in japan, and film a series or movie in China or korea. That's how busy they were before yet they always find time for them to get together. And hottest, well, the fandom accepted this reality wholeheartedly that's why we really celebrate when they are together as 2PM and still be happy and supportive to each and everyone of them when they are doing their solo acts. My thoughts are all over the place, I know. What I wanted to say is that, this comeback was made possible because of the long history the members shared together, their brotherhood that's as solid as diamond, and of course, the hottest who patiently waited and never wavered. Shout out to Nichkhun who patiently stood by our side as we did our waiting. Now that they are all back, we just wish for them to continue making music and memories and to be happy as always. Idk if you know this pd but Taec is promoting with the group as well 😁😁. I've been a hottest since their debut as well and I agree that this comeback is definitely an important one. Like for example SNSD, I feel like even if they cb as full group even then it would be more like a reunion rather than just a cb. But with 2pm if you see their variety stuff, you'll realise as members started returning back from military they started getting in this mood for preparing a group cb once Junho return as well. And they did this immediately once every member was done with military, like just within months even when members had their own schedule. If this took like an year or sth, I would've thought oh this feels more like a reunion or one time thing but bcoz this was so quick, I realised oh yeah they're in this as in they're going to continue as group no matter what and I'm happy that we could see this happening:)

Highlight is another group where all the members are in their 30s now and back from the military. SHINee obviously too, minus Taemin, but once he's back, they will be too. It's a really, really cool thing and a trend I love. This was my 1st time seeing a 2pm comeback and I enjoyed it a lot. These last 2 weeks I've seen a lot of the live stage performances, interviews, etc and what I'm watching for is Taecyon's involvement because I too wonder how invested he is is being part of 2pm despite the different labels. So far I've seen nothing buy positive vibes. Taecyon truly looks like he's having a lot of fun. Even in this MV where they dance at the very end you can see how much he's enjoying this moment because he and Changsung have these large smiles on their faces. And that's the what you see on the behind the scenes videos...them just enjoying the moment. I'm a huge 2pm fan now so I hope this continues because I really enjoy their music...their old music and today's is what I prefer to listen to. I've tried to listen to today's younger current boy groups but I'm just not into them. I've done my time listening to BTS and other younger groups and , for me, it's just a repetition of sound and choreography and I know I'm crazy but I get bored. I know I'm crazy cuz BTS has blown up like no other group but...what can I say...one's taste in music is personal.

And yes I agree with u PD this comeback is very meaningful not only for 2PM n hottest but also for entire kpop industry. They will be the bechmark for younger boygroup n also kpop agency that it is possible for group members to signed under different label/agency n still manage to have an amazing comeback (with full album) n do promo here there as a complete group. And there's also one more thing that made them setted as the standard, it is their sexy n masculine image. It's like everytime they do perform, six of them are always being naturaly sexy n manly without even trying (moreover in their early 30s like now), n for me no group can top that yet. Institutional knowledge is hard to get in kpop reaction industry because not many started from 10, 15 years ago as a fan. PD is one with such knowledge because he has been in it. I really like his take on 2pm and the future of mature idol concept. If fan loyalty can translate into money, it is plenty incentive for great acts to come back after 30 like 2pm did here. I think 2pm matured really nicely, be it looks, style, skill. They have something young idols don’t have and it is refreshing to see in kpopdom.

I’ve been a hottest ever since debut. I think I was around 8-9 years old when 10 out of 10 came out. I was there for every comeback, even when I kind of took a break from Kpop, I always found myself up to date with their comebacks. 2pm are really important to me and I won’t lie, I had my doubts during their hiatus. I mean, their last comeback was 2016, and I thought that their break wouldn’t last too long. Then Taec left JYP and, even though he did not leave 2pm I was still in doubt because it was unfamiliar for a member to leave the agency but still be part of the group. I was scared that they would not actually have a comeback. Let’s be honest, a 5-6 year break is not a short time, that’s literally the entire career of other Kpop groups that I stan. To have this comeback is just so meaningful. I’m so happy to have them back and the fact that they kept their promise really brought me to tears. The M/V did not disappoint and the album is great (as usual lol) and seeing them promote as 6 in music shows is just incredible. This comeback is 10/10 for me because of how meaningful it is and because of how hard they worked on it (ofc aside from the music being great) Just, beyond happy.

the part where you said all jyp groups are molded after jyp is true.. i remember watching itzy's behind the scenes in their mvs and they said jyp always guides them on how to sing a certain line in a song. he himself sings it to them so they can apply it on the recording later.

Actually, JYP can only do so (teaches them how to sing) if he produced the song that is to be recorded. In JYPE, the one that directs the recording is the song producer, he’s given full control in the recording, including how he wants the artist to sound.

I mean, it's not even the first time this split-group contract with JYP boy groups has happened. With g.o.d., Kim Taewoo was signed onto JYP Ent from the beginning, while the rest were at SidusHQ. JYP Entertainment literally pioneered the multi-label contract in K-pop. It was only after the other members' contract with SidusHQ lapsed that g.o.d. as a whole signed on to JYP Ent. But Park Jin Young served as their composer and producer throughout, ever since their debut.

JYP and 2pm members are really close. That's why I think this worked out so well. Taec has said that he doesn't even need the employee ID to enter JYP building, he can just enter when he wants to. I know they always bicker about JYP but honestly Wooyoung has said, that when yo understand him, you actually realize many things, and then you re-sign with his company.

Loving the maturity of 2PM! I'm so grateful for their and SHINee's comeback; it's nice to see older idols continue to put out solid performances, especially with their seasoned vocals. There are some 2nd and 3rd gen girl groups that I would love to see return in full form, namely Brown Eyed Girls (to me, their last great CB was "Brave New World") and SPICA ("Secret Time" was such a fun and skillful vocal display). Sadly, that may not happen. With the way that groups are churned out, I worry both for newcomers and those who have been around- it's the question of how long companies can provide the proper support to sustain their groups. While I don't know the exact inner workings of these companies, the pattern of short-lived/under-utilized groups is ongoing. But again, it's great that at least 2PM are breaking away from that.

PD!!! You should definitely check out some of their other stages from this comeback on your patreon. They did performances of ADTOY, My House, and Hands Up and they were absolutely magnificent. Such a needed throwback!

Also I'll say 2pm is the group that got me obsessed with Kpop, introduced me to variety shows and also made My House my favorite kpop song of all time so, they're quite important to me and will always come back to them even after long breaks

Thank you for this, PD!! Beeen waiting to learn about your thoughts to this comeback since last week. But it’s funny though how you got surprised that Wooyoung sounded and composed like JYP when among the 6 members, he’s the JYP clone- he dances, sounds, and acts like JYP. Recently, the members also revealed that Wooyoung is apparently MUCH MORE stricter than JYP when recording and that annoyed them so much. Some members had to even record one line for 2 days! 😂😂😂

The fact that 2PM managed to pull this off gives me hope for other groups. Maybe GOT7 can, one day, get together and release music again. Maybe Naeun will, one day, release an album with Apink. Maybe Mamamoo will stay together even after Wheein leaves.

got7 might be kinda hard because they all are under different companies as artists no? Taecyeon is signed under an acting agency who view him being in 2pm as good promotion for himself as an actor. Bomi recently did say that APink is in the studio rn, idk if Naeun is there too but we can hope. Wheein is leaving mmm?

Oh my, i'm praying for Vixx to comeback like 2PM did ! N and Ravi left the company but are still Vixx members and credited as Vixx members. Ravi even participate in their last single release "parallel". So let's hope! I'm very happy for 2PM, I liked "My house" when it came out in 2015. An I looove the fact that you can say right away they are an "old" group. The vibe is just different. More mature and sexy, like you said. And just like with Super Junior, I can almost feel the "not pressured" side of comebacks like this. They just do a comeback because they can AND they want to. It's just chill and good music, so I'm here for it !

PD will be pleased to know the members themselves said Wooyoung is too much like JYP on this cb, they recorded for Make It several times, and the only time that happened before was when they recorded with Park Jinyoung, so they complained about how strict they both are, Wooyoung explained that he was feeling a lot a pressure, it's their first comeback in 5 years, right after their rise in popularity since last year and it's his first title track, but since before that, people already compared Woo to JYP, saying they dance just the same, and I gotta agree, their style is really similar

Thanks for this reaction to 2PM's Make It. I like it a lot, too. The production is sophisticated, yet fun. The choreo is smooth and classy. And it is refreshing to see "men on screen." It adds a level of sophistication to Kpop and an appreciation for fans who have been with their groups for a long time. 2PM'S music is still on point, as is their performances. I also appreciate the mention that this comeback is making history. I am now even more hopeful for a GOT7 comeback as a group. That will make history, too. With 2PM leading the way.

wjsn last year debuted a subunit called wjsn chocome with the song "hmph"! It think it sounds a lot like Lipstick by OC and they definitely rocked the stages with all of their costumes very "orange caramel- lesque" hahaha it's a very fun song, I highly recommend it if you're missing their vibe!! The subunit did incredibly well so we're expecting a comeback sooner or later ^^

I believe that when they are in diff companies, the willingness of the members itself must be bigger than anything. In 2pm case, more than half of them are active as an actor, but since long ago, they manage to cope with their group,acting and solo album activities greatly. Btw, 2pm already announced that they will release their Japan album this year. Keep what they usually did, release both Korean n Japanese album at the same year.
