Side note, you know how we all agree that Answer was like, their grand finale to the Treasure era? I honestly think that Turbulence is just as an epic conclusion to this era as Answer was for theirs. In a different way obviously, way more emotional. But it's fitting, since the Zero era put more emphasis on exploring different emotions and feelings anyways (desperation, celebration, frustration, attraction, happiness, sadness...), whereas Treasure was more focused on that pirate swagger, as PD likes to call it lol We don't know if this is going to be the official title track to this epilogue ep or if there's gonna to be more, but for me, if it is, it's the perfect ending already!

I graduated from high school in 1979 so I'm definitely an older Atiny, and this song reminds me of the power ballads/anthems I loved in the 70's and 80's. I'm a vocalist so I'm always a fan of songs that show off vocals and I really appreciate being able to hear the individual members and their vocal timbres. I got into K-Pop December 2020, falling in love and falling down the Astro rabbit hole. My eldest daughter has consistently campaigned to get me into Ateez and she's succeeded. Back in March, when she was bombarding me with links to Ateez songs, I said "That guy, Yeosang, doesn't get enough lines--we need to hear more of his singing." I've also wondered why he didn't get more lines. After hearing more from him, I think that maybe one of the issues is that Yeosang has a deep, rich voice but he is still working on finding his niche when it comes to singing in Ateez songs. His cover of "Me After You" is from early 2020 and he sings very softly at the lowest part and seems to be still not that confident switching to his higher range. I think it would be easy for his lines to "get lost" in the mix of some of the other voices of Ateez--the louder and more confident ones. "Turbulence" uses his voice in a way where he is paired in duos responding back and forth to each other and his voice quality, which has a raw passion, really suits the song and how it is utilized keeps his voice from getting overwhelmed by the others. He's young and I think that with continuing vocal lessons and experience, we'll hear more from Yeosang, which would make me and apparently lots of other people, very happy!

I think that ever since Fever part 1, they have described these eras as trying to convey that in life it’s okay if you don’t know what you’re doing, if you’re lost, that even when the unknown is scary, day by day you can overcome it, and that at some point everyone feels like they have no idea what the future holds, that you’re not alone. And it not only makes their songs incredibly relatable, but it also makes you feel better. It bothers me so much when people on the internet (Im looking at you stan twitter) say that all Ateez songs sound the same, think that, for people that have only listened to their tittle tracks, they may not be familiar with the soft emotional side of Ateez, but they’ve really been doing a great job at giving us this kind of emotional songs, maybe not exactly in the same style as turbulence, but for example: twilight, light, MIST, with you, sunrise, star 1117, fever, take me home, and most recently with not too late. Man, I remember listening to “One day at a time” for the first time and crying my eyes out because it felt like something I really needed to hear in that moment. That’s what this songs feels like, a message of reassurance and almost like a hug of “hey, it’s okay”. Loved how they brought back the iconic line “Passion, young fever” loved the back and forth between Yunho and Yeosang, I loved Mingi’s verse, even more when one stops and thinks on how much they’ve gone through as a group this year alone. In my opinion, Turbulence is going to be one of those songs that you listen every time you’re sad. They really knocked it out of the park.

answer and inception passed the baton on to turbulence; extremely powerful vocal layers, high emotional factor and some classic epic ateez momentum leading up to the last chorus and outro i pulled out tears for this song it’s incredible to see a group being able to pull off a concept like fireworks and go straight into deja vu and now this… versatility at its finest

I personally think Yeosang's voice is a bit too deep for some of their brighter songs or songs with high climax - hence why his opening was perfect for this song because the ending was just so explosive. He has said that he is more confident now so hopefully they can give him more lines!

Agree with most of the comments and yours in that Yeosang and Wooyoung got fewer lines but the ones they did get were extremely powerful. Yeosang has really been coming into his own as far as these last couple eras. His newfound confidence may have shown a little differently in Fireworks and especially Deja Vu (*cough* *cough*) but that's all important too as far as the end game of being an overall confident performer. Both he and Wooyoung have softer vocals that may in some ways require more time and training in order to stand out. But it's clear the difference that's already being made and how much they're growing. With Wooyoung's lines in particular you can hear how much stronger and clearer he sounds. It's probably a combination of him working really hard and the song giving him some great space to do his thing but the couple lines he does get in this one are extremely impactful. I've noticed a lot of reactors don't even realize at first that it's him singing there. That sort of desperate-sounding way he often lets off his last notes (Dreamers is another good example) worked really really well for this song.

Tbh I was waiting for them to release a title track that reflects their emotional side! Because while they are (rightfully) know for their intense and high energy songs, we know that they excel in emotionally driven songs too. It was really about time they gave us one as title track, I am so happy! Tbh it could be considered a risky move for KQ, the producers and Ateez, since they haven't done this before, but it really shows how they wanted to expand their repertoire and explore and push themselves. And I believe it'll pay off. Also, that throwback to Wave at the end made me fucking emotional man

That’s it!! I get REALLY frustrated seeing K-pop Stan’s saying that 4gen boy groups only make noisy all-the-same music! I know most of the time this criticism is directed to SKZ (which is a group that I also like but I’m not really familiar with their discography), but I can’t SEE how these listeners can say that if they really get familiar with Ateez songs!! Even only the title tracks and b-sides they have promoted so far (like wave, answer and inception), it’s not only the pop-club-hardcore music

I was thinking that this song was probably how the members felt leading up to their first win. They didn't know what kind of idol to become, what they had to do, and were just uncertain of their future in general. So when *they all* sang the intro to Wave at the end of this song, it was like them breathing a sigh of relief, cause their "flight" landed safely or at least got out of the "turbulence" that worried them 🥺 Also, this song was probably made a while ago, cause Hongjoong said on his PM that he got emotional after listening to turbulence again and that he messaged Eden (their producer/his mentor) and said something along the lines of "thank you for letting us/helping us get this far" 😭😭 Edit: Oh yeah, from what I understand, the members and Eden figure out the line distribution by letting all the members sing the whole song and just picking and choosing who sounds the best at what part. For Yeosang, I think he said somewhere that he was a bit shy with his vocal parts at first, but now he's more comfortable with getting more lines! So I hope they get to utilize his voice more, it really suits the warm/mellow parts of their songs :")

I love Turbulence as a title track as like... representative of certain songs in their discography like Mist and Take Me Home and One Day At A Time that are almost always counted among fan's top songs. That raw emotional power is something Ateez does SO WELL and stands out for but doesn't necessarily get the credit they deserve for, along with their vocals as a whole. Turbulence instantly shot up to my top 5. I love the themes of the song and music video going along with the transition out of youth. One thing that really resonated with me was that they all seem to be in different places or stages at the end. Wooyoung's taken off, Hongjoong started running, San got off the bus, Yeosang is still in the classroom looking at the sky. It reminded me of the Fever Part 2 teaser with 'the stars in the sky could not be seen because people never raised their heads' and the climax Turbulence having the lyric 'I can see it there, follow the lights'. With Yeosang, he absolutely hasn't had the amount of presence on songs that he deserves, and I get the feeling that they perhaps didn't know how best to utilize his voice with the rest, but I also see a lot of changes coinciding with the way his confidence seems to have gone up a lot this last year and I can only hope that we just get more and more because his voice is stunning.

Hongjoong's rap at the end paired along with Wooyoung climbing in the sky gives a feeling of elevating higher and higher and that part is what hit the song straight home for me. I've got goosebumps. The song was well put together for a ballad and its minimalistic nature suited it very well.

i love what you say about yeosangs parts. I think Wooyoung has gotten more lines over the time but he used to also get little to no parts. I would love for Yeosang to get more impactful moments and center choreo if the line distribution is still lacking.

the "woah~" tune at the end is actually the instrumental to wave! On top of the song lyrics being very hopeful and comforting that little inclusion of wave really ties into that message. Turbulence reassuring its okay to have uncertainties bc there will be a time where you'll be able to face the journey ahead of you, that time here being wave and the message of that song. I just really love that part bc it connects both the treasure series w fever not necessarily in terms of storyline, but in terms of what the message of series has been. on the topic of turbulence's music video style, i think they intentionally did it in such a way so it calls back to the diary film which was released last year before thanxx/inception dropped. as a song it does fit the overarching theme of youth and the unknown future which has been present throughout the fever series, and the music video calling back to this message as well as the diary film gives it a much bigger impact in combination with a song which seeks to comfort those who are lost in their journey to the future.

Regarding what you said in terms of Yeosang's line distribution, he's actually slowly starting to get more lines as well as the memorable parts, starting in Fever era (at least in my opinion). I do think KQ could do better with putting him in the front for the choreography more though so he could have more camera time since he does consistently get the least amount of lines. However with the consideration that it is an 8-member group with others who are main-vocalists and rappers when the songs can get rap heavy, I actually don't think he has that bad of a line distribution, especially since it seems like KQ has been working on which lines and he should deliver. But that doesn't mean I don't want more for him overall too!

another comment from me, i love how they call back to the night sky very often (both visually and lyrics-wise) SPECIFICALLY dark night skies; when you illustrate night skies as a feeling you can invoke two different types depending on the visualisation: a sense of calm and comfort when there are lights, stars or the moon present, or a sense of uncertainty and discomfort when those lights are not present. in a song which really emphasises the message of uncertainty and assurance, i think the use of such dark settings visually really does show those feelings and makes the viewer feel just as uncertain, to which when the last chorus hits, and the lights begin to shine brighter, there's a feeling of being safe, assured, knowing that you can always still take that step, you just have to believe in yourself and believe that you are on the right path.
@samminicksm
@samminicksm 2 жыл бұрын
*disclaimer*: Wooyoung and Yeosang are literally my biases. I love them to the moon and back. Something to be said for Yeosang’s and Wooyoung’s line distributions: Of the vocal line, those two probably are the “weakest”, and **I say that in quotes because I mean they have the least vocal training.** Yeosang and Wooyoung were primarily dancers/visuals/performers before they debuted. You can really see their growth just between predebut and debut when it comes to their singing. From the beginning, you can see Jongho, San, and Seonghwa especially had a head start training-wise when it came to vocals. Yunho had less training than those three (because he was primarily a dancer) but more than Woo and Yeo. As time has gone on, the growth from vocal training and in confidence has been immense. I think we’re just now seeing them really take more prominent lines now that they themselves are gaining more stability to perform live while maintaining their position as dancers. Because that’s another thing. Their lines have been limited, therefore the performances have become heavily reliant on them to be dancing hard for the nearly the entire song. Yeosang is usually framing the rap line(Deja Vu is a really good example) and Wooyoung frequently leads dance breaks (Say My Name and Fireworks come to mind) especially when Jongho is singing adlibs and has to stand still for stability. Maintaining that level of activity and picking up extra vocal lines (because ATEEZ rarely ever uses backtracking during live performances) is really hard on singers. Jongho pointedly doesn’t dance as hard as Wooyoung and Yeosang throughout most performances because he sings at least 20% of every song, so he needs to conserve energy. San, Seonghwa, and Yunho are prime examples of where Woo and Yeo are/are headed as far as vocal ability. All three of them can maintain vocal stability and dance at near full strength. You can tell when one is about to sing because their moves lighten up a bit to give them time to get their breathing under control, it’s subtle and hard to catch because of their training, but it’s there. Breath control like that is hard to train, and that’s what they’ve been doing. Their immortal songs and KD performances have proven that Woo and Yeo are finally getting to the point where they can be confident enough to pick up more lines.

9:57 I think the fact that Yeosang doesn't get much lines is slowly shifting into the unfair line distribution territory. During the early days when ateez had debuted, he indeed wasn't that confident with his voice so it was natural that he had less parts. Eventually though, he mentioned specifically in an interview that he would like to do more or have more parts in title tracks but even after countless comebacks, it is still the same. This is sad because you can clearly see that this bothers him and in fan calls whenever anyone mentions how they love his voice he seems genuinely surprised. I might seem bitter (and I really am a little), but I wish he had few more lines. At least, if the producers think his voice doesn't suit much in the TTs they can give him more parts in the bsides as well but even that doesn't happen. Im so happy to see Yunho get a fair amount of lines here in turbulence because even he was under utilised I believe. But personally, out of all the vocalists, I love Yeosang's deep, warm, soothing tone the most and it sucks that he sings only for a very few seconds. I was hoping to hear him more at least towards the end, so as much as I love the song, it also was a bit of a disappointment - both in terms of the lack of lines and screentime for Yeo. I hope to god they improve this in future comebacks or do something with their storyline which can explain Yeosang's constant absence.

This song hit me so hard, and I think it hits even harder emotionally every time I listen to it. Even more than a song about hope as you said, I'd almost describe it as a desperate prayer FOR hope. Which is why the shot I just can't get over is the one that transitions from Mingi with his hands folded to Yunho looking up out the window, almost like they can hear each other's silent call. It gives me chills every time.

Happy Monday! I put off listening to this song (only for a day, mind you) because I saw other reaction channels hinting that the song made them cry. I cry easily, especially when it comes to music. As I predicted, I was fighting tears upon first viewing (and all subsequent ones). I am the same age as most of the ATEEZ members, so the lyrics resonated a whole lot; I also become more sentimental during autumn/winter, so that made the song hit a lot harder than I originally anticipated. I agree with you on loving Yunho's voice; he is one of my biases and while I love seeing him dance, I would love to hear more of his singing, too! INCEPTION also has a special place in my heart (I did a short dance cover of it and it's one of my favorite performances I've done), but I see myself listening to Turbulence a lot more this season. My partner loves INCEPTION and enjoyed Deja Vu, so I look forward to playing this in the car when it's my turn with the AUX. Sending support from Hawaii, always! Take care and stay cozy.

fun fact: i heard eden, the producer for ateez, mentioning before that essentially all of the members "audition" for lines so he listens to all of the members sing all of the parts and then decides which members get which lines from there and yeosang has mentioned before too that he wasn't as comfortable getting many lines yet but he's been gaining confidence and wanting more lines nowadays! I love love love that he had more lines that were impactful in the beginning of this and i think they really suited his voice and matched well with yunho's as well!!! this song really showcased all of the members' vocal abilities and showed off their voices as well so beautifully! wanna hear more of their voices all the time ^_^ thank you for the review of this music video :)

As someone whi has been pained by Yeosangs line distribution, they have defenitely recently tried to give yeosang more highlight moments, at least in coreography, but I've also realised/accrpted that it might be a story driven desicion. Even in this mv, if the overaal colour scheme is blue, red and white, Yeosang's main scene is in a sunlight lit classroom. Overall, they are getting better at also bringing people with less lines forward and maybe we'll see a big difference when story progresses.

Exactlyyy they are emo kings specially Hongjoong so they have to have more emo songs!! And a thing with Atz vocalists it's that all of them have a warm tone(Woo mostly not but still has that undertone? raspiness and warmth) ALSO, they convey their emotions SO fking well!! Specially Seonghwa and rap parts Hongjoong, but really, everyone! So they really suit emotional songs like also Thank U and Fever are perfect examples(Hongjoong bridge rap there is my favorite thing soo emotional 😭), we need them pls KQ!!

I cry everytime I listen to this song. As a current hs senior(in a competitive hs) dealing with college app/finals szn(thank goodness the worst of it is over but currently stressed abt finals), I am under a lot of stress and the upcoming decisions weigh heavily on my mind. In addition, things in my personal life affect my mood everyday, the passion can be heard from their vocals in this song. As an avid videographer, I love the storyline and cinematography. ATEEZ gives me the motivation to continue pursing my passions and dance. Since I am a self taught dancer inspired by kpop, it is hard for me to match up to the level of my friends who have been dancing for years. I am known to be able to express harder hitting guy choreos, so ATEEZ allows me to test my limits with their various choreography. Thank you PD for always giving your true opinions abt ATEEZ mvs!

I can’t get over the little inserts connecting this song to previous songs ie. the beginning melody connects to the end of the deja vu MV which is also the end melody of Not Too Late. As well as hongjoong’s killing part in Fever: Passion. Young. Fever. And finally ending on the iconic wave chorus!! Ah this song is truly special and the perfect end to the Fever series. 💜

So there's a theory going on how this is a sequel to their Diary Film video. This is their first mv without any of them being together in the mv, similary to what happened in the diary film when we saw the "mirror or glass" that shattered and split all of them. So they went back in time. But over all the emotions for me are the exact same as you explained. Its just different,a feeling of comfort and relief saying that they are also humans going through the same stuff as us.

So... this is gonna be long, but I'll put out there anyway xD I'm not korean, and I only understand a little bit of Korean, but this song made me cry so much the first time I listened to it (without even reading the eng subs) It felt DEEP ... & it IS DEEP ! I agree with what you say about this song being so special and produced cinematically, I already said this many times but I'll say it again... this is a song that should be seen on BIG SCREENS :') !!!!! That's how well made it is !!! About Yeosang & Wooyoung's line distribution, it is true that these two members specifically have the least lines, BUT... my personal opinion: when I was still a babytiny and barely recognized the members, Yeosang's voice was one of the first voices I could easily recognize! Eventhough he didn't have much lines, his voice is so special and distinctive! And I do believe that Yeosang gets killing parts in some performances, cuz otherwise, I wouldn't have even noticed him ! He captures my eyes in his parts specially this year, 2021 :) Wooyoung's voice ALWAYS surprises me.... that boy has many colors to his voice and it's insane !! I sometimes can't even recognize his voice!!! Yunho and San also have many colors to their voices, like you could hear them singing in tones you'd NEVER expect ! AND THEY'RE ALL SO PERFECT !!! I do agree that Wooyoung have more killing parts in the performances too

their discography is very diverse, more diverse than i thought. as someone who just got to know ateez this year, i've always thought that this group always has hardcore? i wanna say noisy but it would be very offensive (even for me, i am an 8 months old atiny now, KD-atiny) yeah but thats what i thought about them without actually listening to their discography but thanks to my curiosity, i started listening to WAVE until their entire treasure albums (treasure ep 3 is uhh cheff kiss) their discography are FAR from to be called noise music. I am so glad that i found them. and this release just shows me once again that Ateez is serious about showing their musicality. They dont go with mainstream sound like hip-hop or electronic music (looking at the competitors who have similar comeback date with them), and choose heart-wrenching rock-ballad that not every group can pull-off.

honestly i think turbulence is such a nice way to i guess finish off the “fever” series, everything about it from the way they put the melody from wave at the end to hongjoong saying “passion, young, fever” just like he did in fever, it just felt so emotional and even tho no one was expecting this to drop i’m kinda glad they released it before the real

This is probably one of my favourite ATEEZ releases, it's a very relatable track at any point and I think ATEEZ has conveyed it very well alongside the FEVER series. Love this track composed by EDEN, KQ got talents right there. Jongho mentioned that he almost teared up while recording it too and I can srsly tell why. His vocals in this is incredible, I mean he's always been great, but there's just something about his vocals here alongside the lyrics that's just so... emotional. I love it. And also Hongjoong's rapping in here - GOSH, he's always taken higher tone parts but in here, he went from real deep heavy to his usual high energetic, incredible, I loooove.

For me atm this song is most impactful because of its relation to Ateez's lore, so I loved the visual callbacks to Inception and mostly musical callbacks to Wave. It was powerful to see how the boys, who were clearly separated and suffering because of that, were emotionally ready to re-unite around HJ and then fly and/or dream their way to the New World aka moving to Treasure-era events (SMN, HH, PK, TREAS for ex). I'm excited for what might come in post-Fever events and hope we do get some kind of a return to their more eclectic and edgy feel of the Treasure-period title tracks, but also with a difference to show their growth and extended artistic range.

I noticed that when Yunho looks through the window we sometimes see the city’s tall buildings reflected in it, but sometimes you see him in the same place but we see clouds and warm yellow sunlight, Seonghwa has a few shots like this too; like they’re flying above the clouds, I think that’s beautiful. Since Ateez’ stories usually make sense on multiple levels, I also feel like this is once again a reference to the ‘gas’ (if u know the storyline u know) since they’ve often shown yellow/colorful fog and in this case clouds. The fog around Wooyoung may be referring to this too but since it’s just ‘plain’ fog I’m not sure, but he IS the one literally flying so it could work. If the ‘gas’ is indeed a component here, I don’t believe they’re under the influence of it, but it may be a warning like it’s nearing, or it’s a memory or vision of the other world (kinda symbolic since they’re not looking straight at it but through a window so it feels like a sense of seperation from it; we know they probably got back to their own worlds - temporarily - since their seperation from Yeosang, who btw is clearly in a very different (and seemingly confined) environment compared to the others’ here)

My jaw literally dropped cuz I didn't expect such a move from them. This MV is definitely going to have a special place in my heart! You can literally pause this MV in any second you want and it gives the cinematic look in every frame with the precise color scheme, the emphasis on lighting and such (hats off for Digipedi again and again) and even though we do not see the members together at all in a single shot, their vocals compliment each other so well that you feel their union from distance. Everything about this cb is so intentionally and elegantly chosen which makes me feel so proud for them. They did a risky move yet they pulled that off really well with extending their repertoires visually and vocally through this song. I would say this is definitely another turning point for Ateez! Hats off 🎩

Hell yeah + when Wooyoung started to run through the fog, I got chills and tears oh my- + Not only Yunho's falsettos but Yunho's bittersweet attitude in the mv added another level to the maturity on this video + The lightning during Yeosang's part in front of the wall looks like watefall/wave literally :')

I'm watching too many reaction videos of Ateez songs and OMG "Turbulence" keeps making me cry!!! I've started listening Ateez since January of this year, I've never been into Kpop so deeply as I am with Ateez. They are making me doing a lot of things that I thought I would never do, like stanning a KPOP group, listening ALL THEIR SONGS, watching ALL their MV etc. Music for me is something superficial, shallow, I've never been into music even though I've always thought how amazing MUSIC as an ART is. And with ATEEZ I've just realized how KPOP is an amazing phenomenon, I've listened a lot of KPOP songs, especially Kdrama OST but for the first time in my life I'm also trying to UNDERSTAND ATEEZ's songs and what their messages are.
