I think part of which we haven't been given a comeback like ON and Map of the Soul 7 is because BTS don't want to go in a completely new era with a full album while the pandemic is still going strong. Not all countries have opened up and with their international fame (which has increased even more since dynamite) they have more countries to visit in their tours. We all know how heartbroken they are that they haven't yet performed ON in person so I think they don't want another large scale title track to go by without a physical performance with fans singing along.

This is exactly my thinking too. So many people think they’re going to do an album before the end of the year but I actually don’t think they will, I think they will wait until they hear if the Covid situation gets better. It would be really hard to move on from map of the soul era never having the chance to perform live in front an audience. The concert was amazing but I know that’s nothing compared to the real thing for them.

agreed, they've always said how much preparation they've done for ON/MOTS7, the diff performance ideas they have for it. I think that's one of the reasons they held out for another year and didnt enter new era bcs they wanted to perform their songs from MOTS7, and if ever they enter a new one, all of the preparations they made for MOTS7 might be for nothing, it will be hard for them to insert those songs and ideas if they already have 2 albums to pick songs for concert setlist, what more if there are 3? the theme and concepts will be hard to connect to each other.

The amount of hate I got for just saying that 'Permission To Dance was not their best work' was insane. This comment section is giving me so much relief. Glad to see many others were underwhelmed as well. And some Army's need to remember that you are allowed to be a fan and still not like each and every BTS song. I am kind of getting tired of having to defend my opinion every time I have constructive criticism about a BTS song. I can be an ARMY and at the same time, not love every song of theirs. @starsblazing3 жыл бұрын
I think the main reason why everyone became sensitive for this particular song (other than the fact it was a song gifted to them on the fandom birthday) was because it was a youtuber who just went at it without regarding anything and obviously disliked the band. Their response really went and ignited ARMY defense mechanism, thought they were trying to be righteous about it despite just listening to one album (and not even liking it) and let their ego get out of hand. Also, their lack of research regarding it made me annoyed. Honestly, I looked up to them until that happened (I'm a researcher for my career so it really annoyed me). That fuel a ton of fires and that's why people like you were scolded and hated on. I know there's protective fandom but they really went and got protective because of that hater. I agree, everyone has their tastes, I think it's been awhile since that hell week happened and everyone felt like "okay it's time to admit a few things." Also, PD is that person who would tell you what they like and don't like straight forward, I seen it several times while being subscribed. It brought up a fandom and casual listeners wanting to go forward with that conversation.

i really need someone to remove the autotune privileges from the bighit producers at some point. even once the thousandth army reminds me that it's a totally on purpose awesome stylistic choice i'm not gonna suddenly realize that it doesn't sound like garbage. i know these guys have good voices bc i've heard them sing without any (noticeable) effects and they sound great, but in their actual discography esp lately the vocals just sound unpleasant, at least if they pushed it just a little further into full robot voice id maybe feel like i was just listening to a daftpunk song.
@vlad50423 жыл бұрын
and im not under any delusions that my fav kpop groups and songs don't use autotune and effects, frankly i really don't understand that stuff as well as someone w producing experience, i just know when smth sounds good to me and the group members sound like they have distinguishable, unique human voices, but w bighit songs these days i feel like they process everyone's vocals to sound nearly identical and it's not in a good way. the different vocal colors of each member is part of what's great about being a group of vocalists instead of just a soloist. idk. ik armies don't like this take but i consider it to be very pro-bts (and txt and especially enhypen bc same problem) bc what i want is to hear their actual voices.

Thanks for another reaction! Here are some cool things about the MV and song that viewers (in general) may have missed on first listen: 1. The MV pays respect to people (i.e. waiters, mail carriers, teachers, etc.) affected greatly by the pandemic but often overlooked 2. The cast is composed of diverse people who are appreciated 3. The recognition of disability (there was a prop that said “disability resources”) and the use of sign language in the choreography for “fun”, “dance”, and “peace” 4. The message that in this difficult time, many people haven’t allowed themselves to relax, but the song is a reminder that it is okay to be happy 5. To expand on point 4, people often feel that they need permission to feel happy in the midst of chaos or struggle, but positive feelings can coexist and you should not feel like you have to always suppress them 6. To some, joy can be a form of resistance 7. The setting of the desert can symbolize isolation and lack of life. BTS dancing and celebrating there is a metaphor for reclaiming what has been lost this past year (the desert and the sea are often used as metaphors throughout their discography) 8. In the past, BTS has expressed fear & anxiety about crashing at some point in their career, so the lyric “we don’t need to worry 'cause when we fall we know how to land” has personal meaning and also provides reassurance and motivation to listeners 9. The MV features a mural made by a Mexican American artist 10. “Permission to dance” is an anagram for “stories on pandemic” or “no pandemic stories”

My biggest problem with this release was not the song, it was the unnecessary hatred it got. Some Armys, but especially people who don’t even listen to BTS as much took these 3 English songs and made it seem as if BTS has no artistry whatsoever. They literally push these 3 songs to the front to hate and degrade BTS while completely forgetting that BTS just released MOTS7 and BE a while back, and definitely invalidating BTS whole entire discography to push their hateful narrative. I just want to remind people that you CAN dislike a BTS song or any song from any artist, but don’t hate or push under the bus the group and countless of people who worked for this project. It’s disrespectful asf and there’s a huge difference between CONSTRUCTIVE criticism and DESTRUCTIVE criticism which is the one this song and BTS mainly got. PTD is not that likable, let’s be honest. It is not their best work but BTS don’t need to be pleasing us 24/7. They don’t need to be releasing “meaningful” or “depressing” music to make them “better”. What makes them great is not only their diversity but the fact that they can have vulnerable releases as well as great ones, that’s what makes them BTS. As ARMYs, we should know better and be respectful while at the same time exercising our freedom of speech responsibly. This whole release was painful to watch because BTS does not deserve the hate they got. It’s not right. Some of you as fans and non-fans need to mature. It’s a breath of fresh air seeing a reactor like PD, keeping it positive and real at the same time. Thank you, PD. Personally, this song is not my favorite and wouldn’t go out of my way to look for it unless it pops up on my playlist.

I thought at first they might have actually gone there, but the more you look at the setting, the goofier the details get... only desert rats like myself would probably notice though, so overall they did an excellent job! 💜

I am not from your area but I knew it once I seen it! I even asked my mom after seeing folk say it's their state (Texas, Nevada, etc) and she went "Nah, that's our desert" and my dad thought they came over here for a shoot haha. The song even gives out that Californian vibe that I grew up with like Tiny Dancer by Elton John.

@@starsblazing 😄😄😄 Practically all things desert are shot out in the Antelope Valley, so whenever it turns up in tv/film it is a requirement for current and former residents to declare "heyyyy, it's our desert!" as it's our one claim to fame! 🤣 I grew up specifically in Lake Los Angeles which is just over the 'butte' from the original film lot (Club Ed)... we literally used to party there since our friend was the night caretaker. 😄 (you know... back before JK was even born 😳🤦♀️😭😂) For the real deal though, you could show your folks Red Velvet's Ice Cream Cake or Itzy's Not Shy. the PTD teaser shows a newspaper that sets the mv in 2022, and the pandemic finally being over. so i see the mv has a hope that things will get better. also, it felt like the song was telling us that just bc we’re in a pandemic, it doesnt mean we have to stop ourselves from feeling joy. i know i havent wanted to celebrate anything good happening in my life bc the world is in chaos & sorrow… this song helps remind us that we’re still allowed to feel positive emotions amidst struggle.

You are right people don’t have to like every BTS song. Some of BTS’s songs I like the message but the sound isn’t my favorite sound. I however I really like this song. At first I didn’t really like the auto-tune (not all of it is auto-tuned, I forgot the correct term) but this song is a mood maker. It makes me happy when I listen to it. So to me it is a great song.

I found myself in the minority with my feelings towards this song and styling for the mv. I had to wait till the song became part of the background till I found any enjoyment from it. I still don't love the western/cowboy styling in the mv. The hype of dynamite and butter had died down before PTD came out.
@amberpearce7103 жыл бұрын
@@DorothyBanks I honestly, personally, liked the cowboy theme. I grew up with people wearing that stuff so I found it kind of fun seeing them wear it. Also at first I didn’t really like that is was in the desert but once I got to understand its meaning I grew to really like it. (The theme, desert, connects to their song Sea- if you haven’t I highly recommend reading lyrics on doolsetbangtan). Also the hype of this song, in my opinion, wasn’t meant to be like huge or anything. I think this song was meant for ARMY as a gift since they related it on ARMY’s birthday. This song was suppose to a symbol of hope and to uplift people, specifically ARMY, in my opinion. However I can see why people don’t love the song or theme.

Yeah, we all have been thinking too when the next "real kpop comeback" would be. Some people theorized, including me, that they're delaying this comeback because the MOTS era couldn't be properly concluded because of the tour being suspended, and that they were probably waiting to see if that could happen one day, etc. Now that the whole tour was officially canceled we think that, whatever they're preparing right now, it could be a new "official" era... We'll have to wait to see haha

Also you know we will make you watch the live performances of this song because they go OFF vocally. In terms of comebacks BTS definitely took a break because of Covid in terms of their style of comebacks. There are talks of them maybe dropping an album towards the end of the year and I'm hoping it picks up after the next concept after Map of the Soul since at the end of On it alluded to the idea of Dream and Fear.

If you don't count Waste It On Me and Savage Love remix they literally have 3 songs in English! Three! I really dislike that people are acting like the rest of their discography is just going to be sung and rapped in English. It's fine if you miss their old stuff. But when I miss their old songs I just go listen to them. The purpose of these three English songs, I believe, was to give us something to smile for again. Happy, carefree, lyrics. Something to move to and be joyful. That's amazing! I really like the Sign Language they incuded in PTD. The *THREE* English songs they have may not be for everyone but I think we can appreciate them for what they are, fun songs to make you smile! 💜☺

quite honestly i was sooo surprised by how many armys disliked ptd.. from the get go i loved it and still do :) it made me so happy and was on the verge of tears too lol. had supposed armys whining and complaining about THREE happy songs like you’ll be alright. many were saying “i miss the old bts” “bts changed” like it’s the fact that people don’t think bts can make “good” music if they’re happy, not struggling financially, or mentally and physically well. that it takes value away from their music because it wasn’t made with suffering. bts have the right to be happy as they do with expressing that in their music. they choose what to release not what consumers want them to make. the old music is still there for you to stream it’s really not that complicated. let them be happy and sing in any language they want. and if you felt offended reading this then well….. but yes i love this song so much i cant wait to experience it live in concert and scream the lyrics hopefully someday 🥲

also i think just cause now with the pandemic and all they’re trying to plan what to do next and what to prepare music wise since they can’t go on tour and perform songs from seven and be rn… which kind of messes everything up because who knows how they’re going to do it once they are able to tour again. but i would say that their next cb might be (also this is rumored) late oct early nov..??? i could be completely wrong and if no cb happens then for sure early january ☝️🙏🙏 idk tho lol

The live version - on Jimmy Fallon - brought me to appreciate this song on a whole new level. Once I saw the making of/behind the scenes for this MV, that sealed the deal. Big Hit, as always, created the set from scratch, in South Korea. Apart from some scenes where random folks were dancing (that's also new in a BTS MV), although it looks like it was filmed in the southwest of the United States (it has that feel), it was filmed in South Korea. BTS also specifically included international sign language into the choreography to make it even that much more inclusive. And that "stinger" that you mentioned, the group of people are the staff/crew that made the MV possible. There is definitely a message behind this song - it's not meant to be subtle. The easy choreography lends itself to a challenge, so that's what BTS did - I won't even guess the # of ARMY that uploaded their videos to KZbin. And the Elton John reference gave him an in to be Twitter friends with BTS (Queen already became friends through 'Butter'). This song expanded their reach beyond the 'Butter' market - it would be interesting if that was translatable into actual numbers. Probably HYBE's analysts keeps track of those things.

I'll give my opinion on the matter. The problem is not the songs being in English, it's that they're very much happy, poppy, upbeat songs that have pretty simple lyrics. There were made to target to the western audience and cheer people up which is fine, but they don't have that much substance and many BTS fans just find these songs bland compared to their Korean songs which the members themselves are more involved in and experiment more with sonically. Many BTS wanted BTS to do something different from Dynamite and even Butter. They wanted a more hiphop song like Mic Drop, Fake Love, or Black Swan or any other genre besides pop. People also wanted BTS to do something more mature not something that felt like it was pulled from High School Musical. In my opinion BTS still have not shown the western audiences who don't listen to BTS what they are capable of. Watch BTS perform Fake Love, ON, or Mic Drop and their performance is so dynamic and the choreography is complex. But with their fully english songs the dances are very simplified so people can dance along. So in conclusion it's not that the fully english songs are bad, we just know as BTS fans they are capable of a lot more than what they have given us and they shouldn't have to dumb down their songs to appease a western audience.
@j9dunk7933 жыл бұрын
I guess I can understand that. I know next to nothing about the BTS discography, and this may mean nothing because of that, but personally I can really appreciate what they did with these songs. This one specifically. In a time where there is more than enough drama and intensity going around in the world, I appreciate the vibes they are choosing to put out. This song makes people happy and THAT is what the world needs right now. At least that’s what I think.
