I truly think Hoseok is a genius and have always felt he was underappreciated in fandom. He's incredibly unique in his style and his range of talents; I'm not sure I've ever seen an artist as versatile as him. He's always a pleasure to watch and listen to! That said, I don't understand fans who are so shocked at More to the point that they say he's never done dark stuff before when he's definitely wrote his fair share of negative thoughts and feelings (or even just contemplative and yearning ones) into his lyrics. An entire Boy Meets Evil exists; he's got range and is a very multifaceted individual. I'm super excited to see more of his solo work and see how he flexes his creative muscles. He's always stellar in BTS music, but I love seeing him shine on his own (and enjoy hearing him sing/rap for over 15 seconds at a time, lol). It helps that this grunge style is one I'm really into, so if there's more of that I'm going to adore it. That said, I wouldn't even be surprised if we get a variety of genres. I'm open to anything Hoseok wants to do.

17:45 The water theme this song begins with is even cooler when you realize that the "HopeWorld" mixtape began with "glub glub" underwater sounds because that mixtape & song are based around the book "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea." Absolutely love this connection. To take it even further now that the album’s out, it is really on theme that Jack in the Box ends with Arson. Because he carried on that running water metaphor from Hope World only to end it with a metaphor about fire, and more specifically Arson. Since fire is the opposite of water, it truly goes to show the depths of his creativity and solidifies the theme of “breaking out of the box” with a never before seen side of him, the fire within him. As a Hoseok bias, he truly never ceases to astonish me with how talented he is!

Thank you so much for your reaction and brilliant thought. J-Hope is a baddie and genius at the same time. He took the risk and went absolutely opposite of the repetitive stereotype of Kpop and what Kpop listeners consume better, he knew for good that K-fans mightily won't like it but yet he did it. You did a great job catching up with his amazing lyricism, some other points I wanna let you know are that: 12:36 "KitKat" has a double meaning here; In Japanese Kit Kat sounds like "kitto katus", which means "you are sure to succeed" or more literally translated as "surely win". Meaning that whatever he does he is bound to succeed. 12:46 he is referring to "Salvador Dali", a famous painter who is known for having a variety of artistic styles and surrealism paintings (He is the painter of " the persistence of memory", better known as the melting clock painting) and the x-ray scene resonates so much with Dali's "Dancer-Skull" painting which was completed in 1932. if you see the painting you see the reference, it was so brilliant! (Dali) here, also actually has a very cool double meaning. As it said, In Korean (Dali) could mean 'differently', so that line can also be translated to something like "drunk in the artistic paintings, I throw myself out there 'differently' " As you may notice too, some screams sound far and muted as if he is in the background. He probably is portraying screaming in a box (Jack in the box) and the way he's trying to let out his emotion and to break his idol image stereotype which is caging him and limiting his artistic career. There are lots of references to the movie Fight club (1999) and Jack in the box main theme as well. (Such as the band's members' melted-like faces, The office set, and esp the whole storyline of Fight club literally make so much sense with this concept). And as the visual teaser dropped yesterday (It's on KZbin and Twitter, I suggest you so much watch it, the sound is intoxicating. Idk if he will cooperate that sound in one track or not but that's so good) He is referring to "Pandora's box" as well. (The myth has it that the last evil caged in the box by pandora is Hope and the whole "Hope is evil" theory was created after that. His Instagram caption says something like "Are going to still stay in there?" which is crazy man) Also good to know that his whole outfits are personalized and designed by "99 percent" and his album cover is a collaboration with Kaws. (kaws also made the visual teaser dropped yesterday for him) His album is legit a masterpiece, the concept and details are so sick. He has worked on it for over 4 years and it is totally worth it. The lyricism, production, lyricism, and the story he is telling, all are extraordinary. Can't wait for July 15. Thank you again for your brilliant reaction.

Yet, at least one comment on KZbin dare to declare that the lyricism here was "too simple"! So VERY obviously showing themselves as arrogantly thinking that they can make this judgement based on the never sufficient English translation! How this allows him to finally be outside of the box 📦. I simply wrote down my initial thoughts without thinking about it more deeply, so I'll try to better convey my thoughts here: I never meant that J-Hope hates being considered "Sunshine", or that he doesn't have good intentions in displaying that aspect of his persona to fans. What I ought to have said, more clearly, is that I believe he is sometimes worn down by the pressure to keep up that happy persona (not to say it isn't real happiness, either). Some fans - thankfully, not all - expect this upbeat attitude from him all the time, and that would be exhausting for anyone. You can argue that those people aren't real fans, and I'd agree with you there, but that doesn't mean that J-Hope has been unaffected by what they've said and continue to say. Antis have loud voices. I think he is well-deserving of the opportunity to explore other avenues in how he presents himself to fans and the public, just as he did with EGO and Hope World. "MORE" has an unarguably darker theme than his past work, and I appreciate seeing that from him.

uhh there's something that i don't like about your comment, even tho i agree that here he can express himself more. He's not trapped in the sunshine mold. He's a human that means that he can be multiple things at the sametime aka a sunshine and more. Just bc we call him sunshine, hope etc. doesn't mean that we don't know he's more than that. This jhope right here is still "sunshine"
@eduardaboffs2 жыл бұрын
@@danola9580no, he's definitely trapped by armys and their sunshine agenda. when more came out, everybody on twitter were like "where's our sunshine, where's hobi, this isn't hobi" bla bla bla
@majellan56132 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's very fair to say he's trapped into a "Sunshine" mold through his fans perceptions, as you say. This is the image he has always aspired to convey in public, as an artist who wants to represent a source of hope and comfort for his fans. These are his own words. To this day, I admire the strength of this will, knowing that he has certainly had to make changes to conform his life to this principle. I think it's precisely taking his fans for fools to imply that in the eyes of most, he's just this pimply, energetic, optimistic man. Sure, he offers a new musical facet through the introspection that is 'More', but he has done it before. Do you even remember 'Ego' ? He describes the development of finding trust in ones' own ego, in other words, he recounts his past experiencies and identities, including the dualism of his person and the not so happy man that he always tries to hide from the public eye. He already proved at that time he's "a person of many facets and qualities", not just a source of cheer. The only difference here is the scenario, the visuals and the aesthetics of the MV.

I'm not an artist but as a student, I can also say I always feel that I'm not good enough: the more I move forward, the more I feel the need to make it better and to make more, I always crave for more knowledge, recognition and perfectioning (and I feel empty and useless without this). It seems that the time to get to know a darker and more intimate side of J-hope has finally come, we always knew it was there but it seems like just now he's ready to show it to the world and I'm glad to be here to witness it and support him.

this whole concept for jack in the box was honestly so unexpected because we are so used to seeing hobi release songs that are bright and upbeat and his solo album is his way of introducing a new version of him that we have not yet seen. i already expected that his single would be amazing but i did not expect for this type of sound to come from him and it turned out THIS good. he never fails to amaze me really, he has the skills AND the range. so so so so so proud of him.

The light shines brightest in the darkness, the light guides the lost souls towards a safe place. The opposite of hope is despair, and Hoseok isn't someone who let's despair paralize him, he's someone who keeps going, who doesn't give up. That's the meaning of hope. His declaration of will is trust on himself.
@117mel2 жыл бұрын
this is such an intimate look at j-hope's self-image. i found the lyrics devastating. he would work to his bones to make music. he would sacrifice his well-being for it's the thing that keeps him alive. he is aware he will never be satisfied with himself. there is this conscious readiness to ruin himself in the process of making art. to always crave that intensity, to always push himself beyond his limits knowing its an endless spiral destroying him slowly. he defines that pain as a natural characteristic of an artist. that shit breaks me. the theme reminded me of what he expressed in 'dis-ease'. but with its tone 'more' depicts a rawer picture of the reality of his headspace and a life devoted to music under the pressure of the limelight.

He's brave releasing this type of song to a fandom who is all about pop/ballads songs, sure many army's like rap but The core of the fandom right now is post Dynamite fans, every other solo song released since has been an ost or a very kpop/pop sounding song. To me this shows his versatility beyong expectations and how as much as he loves bts obviously there is so much of him he couldn't show there so seeing him explore more genres and more of himself as an artist is a treat, and this is just the beginning too, we have a full album next and a tittle track and lollapalooza so he obviously wants more and will put all the work and time to get more.

Jhope already knew that there would be a risk to releasing this but either way its also a part of him that he had to show. He took that head on, he showed us another way to look at him and thats so refreshing. A good artist can mix and switch vibes, styles and genres, Jhope did this perfectly. He has been nudged by the grammies now, I hope this goes well. I mean 33Million views on 6 days aka not a week! Is CRAZY. Im so proud of everyone and BTS. Edit: let's do more and give BTS/hope that grammy! This is such a special moment.

Well if you think about j-hope. He is also like those big artists who maybe don’t release music often, who maybe release music once every two three years (Hope world was 3.5years ago) and they usually put a decent amount of money into his videos.

The whole Music Video has Fight Club references and scenes and if you know the Movie watch it and listen to the lyrics again with the Movie in mind, also the Album's Name is Jack in the Box (Fight Club Protagonist Jack MOORE/Jack in the Box MORE) and the Title Track is going to be Arson. The Song reminds me of Nine-Inch Nails, Beasty Boys, and when we go to Modern music something Twenty One Pilots would, like their Song Heathens.
