I kind of interpreted this as EMBRACING being the “dark side of the moon”. As in, embrace your darker elements, be dark, be rebellious, “show the hidden side”. The fate of the moon is to be this idyllic light, but also has no light of its own; it reflects the light of the sun. It feels to me like they’re rejecting the idea and are both identifying with the hidden side of the moon, but also “burning themselves” in order to burn a light that exists on its own. Idk if any of this makes sense haha but I love the potential interpretations of this comeback it’s so interesting.

Re: Hyunjin and Choerry - in the lore, they're supposed to be mirror versions of each other and it's theorized they sometimes represent each other. For example there's that Love&Live remix and that never got released that had Choerry instead of Hyunjin and Hyunjin is in like two frames of the Girl Front music video. Plus Hyunjin's color is the 3rd primary color besides Kim Lip and Jinsoul, so the theory is that Hyunjin was originally part of Odd Edd Eye Circle in the lore before Choerry! Very cool that they're adding more to the lore in this era.

My favorite part about this music video is the theme of defiance. Although some of the shots may seem of out of place such as Chuu's and Gowon in the bright dresses, and Yeojin's in the uniform they are not. Yeojin was supposed to represent a youthful defiance. This can be seen in her wardrobe. Her ears were pierced, her hair was dyed, and her skirt was shorter than the rest of the girls. While that frame may seem a bit carefree compared to the more edgier scenes it really fits with the theme. It also suits Yeojin's age pretty well. As for Gowon and Chuu I think they are supposed to break stereotypes. Strong independent girls in music videos usually wear darker less girly clothing. However Chuu and Gowon don't. That in itself is their defiance. The fact that they keep their same girly style while rapping about being bad. I also think the dress colors probably represent something in the lore, but haven't figured out what yet.

@DOBENWOLF5 жыл бұрын
Loonaverse thoughts: This is all about the dark side of the moon so I think they're going for a reverse message to Hi High. I think the reason why the song is so aggressive and then has the calming break is because at almost that same time in Hi High, Its ramping up and Chuu is hitting that high note. They tried to reverse the song. Also the girls stories are changed as well. Vivi goes from loving to hating. Yeojin goes from innocent to a rebellious leader Hyunjin and Choerry go from looking for people to being together Jinsoul isnt alone on the train, she has found the others. Olivia and Yves are together in this and not separate Im sure there's other stuff as well, these are some some things I noticed in more of a broad sense.
@kennygabrielnonatodonascim15235 жыл бұрын
But the song literally sends the message that they don't want to be the moon anymore,they want to be themselves,they don't want to be in a loop anymore, that's why Olivia burned the moon, basically a suicide mission, 'killing' everyone and ending the loop. With this message,I still think the Jaden era finally ends here
@pauldejesus35375 жыл бұрын
Kenny Gabriel Nonato do Nascimento but look at the ending! even if ur interpretation is right which i dont think it is, haseul's feather wasnt harmed even though it was burned. so if that was the case, i think they will be born with a new life like a phoenix which is basically a bird that gets revived after being burned. but i think they just burned the other side of the moon or the mobius strip to end the loop meaning they did kill themselves but their other selves.

fun fact: hyunjin and choerry are "mirrors" of one another and are 'interchangeable' hence why there is a version of love&live with choerry replacing hyunjin. in love cherry motion she uses mirrors to signal her friends haseul and yeojin, implying she's from their "world" and is able to use mirrors to move between the three "worlds" in the loonaverse (1/3 being earth, oec being the 'between' and yyxy being eden) this is how choerry is able to interact with members from all 3 worlds: haseul & yeojin, kim lip & jinsoul and yves & gowon - she drops the apple for gowon during one&only. hyunjin is also seen in girl front hinting that maybe she too can cross over into the other worlds. long story short, this is why choerry and hyunjin are paired together in the mvs and why they are being made to look like twins here!

actually so what (and the # album in general) takes place BEFORE butterfly and hi high- though they are “free”, they still can’t go any higher than earth as shown by the scene of heejin running, similar to the scene in hi high, though this time, she isn’t able to get off the ground. the words spoken in the beginning tell them not to accept the fate of the moon, to get off the track; but, when they do all get on the track and run together, accepting the fate of the moon by meeting (hi high), they all manage to break the loop get higher, the main concept of loona. only the odd eye girls, those who can travel through the worlds, are shown together with other members (no 1/3 x yyxy member shots) outside of dance shots [EDIT: besides heejin and olivia in the train, i’m thinking maybe they know each other because they met at the end of egoist, assuming so what takes place after then] , meaning the 1/3 and yyxy girls haven’t met yet! i’m hoping the next comeback will take place after hi high?

I think one of the best things about LOONA is that every image, every lyric is art, and thus open to interpretation. So here are my thoughts on why this is their BEST, MOST MEANINGFUL comeback to date: "Don't accept the fate of the moon", "Get off the track" - The literal moon is in gravity lock with the Earth, it shows the same side to the Earth all the time. In a similar way, a train is locked on it's tracks, it HAS to follow the tracks that have been laid out for it. With these words, LOONA is encouraging EVERYONE to not accept that same fate for yourself. BE who you are, DON'T be led by the opinions and expectations of others. I think the song and video express that same idea. The "dark side of the moon" doesn't necessarily mean the dark side of ones self, rather the side of oneself that we may constantly hide (just like the moon constantly hides it's dark side) because of the fear of what others may say. If you look at the video and song from that perspective I think every scene and line make perfect sense! No matter what country you live in, there is always pressure to repress ones self and to conform to the norms of society. I believe LOONA is trying to encourage all to be true to yourself, don't hide who you are, and if people have a problem with that....SO WHAT!! Also, post credits, with Olivia looking at the burning feather. As many have ascertained, I believe this is in reference to Haseul. I think the imagery means that the fire of what she is going thru right now will lead to her coming back renewed, purified by the fire, and stronger than ever!!

This song really reminds me of SNSD's "I Got A Boy" - a song I didn't particularly enjoy on my first, second or even third time listening. A song that feels like too many concepts, too much at once, overwhelming and musically confusing. Yet both songs are so intriguing that I had to keep listening and rewatching the videos, and with every repeat, both got me more and more pumped - to the point I can't just sit in my chair and I have to move along. They're both a very unusual, a bit too niche to really blow up immediately, yet something that grows on people in the long run (or at least that's what I hope will happen with "So What"). The rest of the songs on the album are very on-brand LOONA, very pleasant, but nothing special. I was hoping to find something similar to "열기" on it, something more mature and 'sexy', but I'm satisfied either way. This song, however.. reminds me more of "favOriTe". A song to grab attention, an anthem of sorts.

This song reminds us to be careful about the value judgment that we place on others. If Loona can't sound more "mainstream" then we are the ones putting them in a box. WE, would be the ones putting the girls in a cage. This is a reminder for us to be confident in whichever path we take--whether it's the well-beaten or the one less taken. Experience, whether good or bad, will all teach us something, and will only make us stronger and help us fly higher.

i appreciate so much that u wanted LOONA to be the first video in the new studio, that's very touching, PD

I just realized it looks like Olivia IS on the dark side of the moon. She throws the torch, we see heejin (in the same red lighting as Olivia) looking up at the moon, worried. Shots of the other members in red light. Finally the moon quickly catches fire and it explodes onto earth in pieces. The group dance is also lit with red and it’s at night. I’m assuming they’re dancing under a moonless sky. Or what’s left of the moon, which is the dark side. They have all fully embraced the dark side of the moon with the help of Olivia. The final word we see is FREE which feels like they are saying free from having to pretend, free from societal standards of what it means to be a girl/woman. The final shot of Haseul’s feathers kinda throws me off. It could mean Olivia was actually in Iceland and she threw that torch all the way to the moon. Or hasuel remains on what’s left of the moon along with Olivia, both unburned. I’m feeling the latter more.

Always an astute critique PD! I always watch your reviews for the nuances that I might not have picked up during my listen and if your views don’t line up with mine, I never regret listening to your dissection.

One thing I noticed was how many shots they have of the girls from behind where you just see the backs of their heads which I’m certain is a reference to the hidden side of the moon that they are supposed to be revealing to us in this video
@praisebeesus27855 жыл бұрын
Also is burning of the moon freeing them or is it supposed to represent bringing light to the dark side of the moon 🧐

Even though I feel like this song is awesome, i still dont like the line distributions that Loona has had till this point. I feel like they push Yves, Heejin, and Kim Lip too much. All the others have so much talent but it kinda gets squandered.

From now on, everytime I see a shitty line distribution I think to myself "At least it's not DUN DUN".

@Abdulrafi Buat i mean... not really though? gowon has more connection to the theory than kim lip does. and it still doesnt explain vivi's COMPLETE lack of lines

I always prefer PD’s reactions over other reaction channels, Mainly because I like how his attention is all going towards LOONA & I passionately dislike when reactors keep an eye contact with the camera & not reacting to the actual music video. Therefore I thoroughly enjoyed this video!

I am not a very informed fan of loona. Just watched their MVs and love them because of that. But as an Art graduate, I wanna point out some symbolism in visual and language throughout the music video. 1- The Moon - Is a symbol for femininity, it represents the phases of life and death with the menstrual cycle, control of emotion (water is emotion, and the moon controls the tides). Also represents mysticism and witches. Unknown and uncontrollable magic power. 2- Red - Color of blood, passion, violence, rebellion. 3- People/Dancers/Models - All women, all together, all rebellious, taking space in society (museum and school represents the academic world of art and science, urban spaces representing citizenship or political engagement in public life). 4- BAD/BAD/BAD/FREE - Women who tried to rebel against the role in patriarchy have historically been burned, killed and/or painted as evil, for taking control of their own lives. So, all this goes with the idea of taking control of their own destiny, paint themselves as evil before the media/society does it. Burn yourself. Go against the fate of the moon, which means, don't let themselves be defined by the narrow idea of womanhood that is pushed against them. Feminism is power and also freedom. This is my reading of the music video anyway. Sorry if there's any broken english, I'm brazilian.

Yo PD! Idc how long you take reacting to a MV. Your reaction videos are literally the BEST there is! You break down the themes, color, dance, to even the tiniest little things that nobody probably ever noticed, & much more, and we appreciate that! You give us more insight to what some people probably never thought of whether it’s good or bad and that’s always a plus! Keep doing ya thing brother! And yes Yves short hair 👌🔥 lol

At 25:20 the explanation for their connection it's their participation at the lore, in the Loonaverse they was really connect as their representative colors beeing complementary, and in the MV of Girl Front a appearance as another Choerry version supposedly to be Hyunjin and then she appears in a flash with mirrored image, and the Hi High MV were Hyunjin and Choerry high fives just like they know each other from the past, and in Butterfly they keep changing the center position. And, in the lyrics, they were connected as Hyunjin lines at 'Sonatine' beeing completed with Choerry b-side 'Puzzle' lyrics, after in the b-side track of [X X] 'Colors' Hyunjin says "I can't take my of the deep purple" something like, and Choerrys mentioning "as my image reflected in the mirror". Then they amazing make a parallel with the clothes on Girl Front, and making their hair colors beeing analogous. THEY WENT AMAZING. JUST THIS.

Begging your pardon, PD. The models in Butterfly actually has a purpose. In the credits of the video, you can see that they are locally casted. Meaning, that was the most cost-effective way for BlocKBerry to revisit all of the countries they visited in the lore during pre-debut and helping the story come full-circle. They no longer have to fly all of the members back to where they were--just the yyxy girls for the teasers. The models, according to popular lore theory, are actually proxies for the Loona members. They help drive the lore and story forward, even in So What. Additionally, this shows how inclusive BlockBerry is. The teasers are entitled, "To All Loonas Around the World." Meaning, whatever your race, color, religion, or gender, you are a Loona--an enlightened being inspired by their art and music. On the other hand, I get your point. Mad respect for your hard work, sir. Thank you so much.

In some theories Hyunjin was part of OEC since she is also a primary color and Choerry was added by mixing Kim Lip and Jinsoul to OEC to complete them. Also Yellow is Hyunjin's color which is opposite to Purple in the color wheel.
