The highs are extremely high but the lows are very low. I thought that at first, but I saw a good statistical breakdown of it. Late second round picks almost always amount to nothing, so the opportunity cost of the pick is extremely low. So basically, choose anyone you want, and picking your star's son is as good logic as anything (and as likely to amount to turn out successful). That's not to say I like their pick, but the logic is sound.

Patty Mills was drafted 55th overall in 2009 & has played 15 years in the league. Don't recall him having a famous basketball playing father to leverage getting himself drafted.
