A midwit reporter tries to weave a little wordspell and some French Canadian shows you how to dispel it. But the real problem is that schools are teaching kids to (not) think this way. You, in fact, were probably conditioned to do this. Don't fall for it.

Great video. And some great strategies for discussing with liberals. I love those Eldar. I need to paint my old metal ones, one day.

I just realized that one of those Eldar guardians is a chick. The one with her arms spread out, shouting, "Check out my rack!"

Thank you so much for pointing this out! You have no idea how much this mindset has bothered me even since middle school, that paste statement of "fake it til' you make it". The amount of respect I lost for educators as a teen as grown adults in no uncertain terms told me to just copy or guess. "I know it doesn't make sense, but it's not worth losing your diploma". A scenario where convenience and order are at the expense of truth. I can't even count how many college educated people I have met, people in their 30's, who can't list more than 10 books they've read in their lives. Saying and doing only what was needed to graduate, trained to believe that the status of having a degreewas more important than actual self improvement. In the words of Jean Luc Picard, "THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS!".

So much effort and energy is wasted to get things wrong and convince others they are right. It's wild (and ultimately evil). You can see the mind do this weird mercurial bending and twisting AROUND the truth, rather than into it/directly to it. So much easier to try and get things right from the get-go. I have been guilty of this also an embarrassing amount of times. Great video!

We're all guilty of it now and again, the question is whether we allow ourselves to become OK with it. It's especially hard to convince moral nihilists who think they will never be held to account, and who are never at risk of immediate severe injury, death, or punishment for being wrong. When consequences are delayed or, worse, offloaded to other people (as is the case with most political and economic consequences), it's nearly impossible. Observe how it takes getting robbed, carjacked, or nearly assassinated for leftist politicians to change their minds on immigrant or crime control. N.N. Taleb calls this "skin in the game." Whenever you don't have skin in the game, the decisions are almost always bad. But I would modify this to say that our skin is always in the game, it's just that some people don't notice it or believe they will ever have to face consequences for their choices. A lot of people will be very surprised on the Last Day. I may not make it, but at least I will not be surprised.

First off, love that crab monster-it oddly reminds me of the giant termites from the movie Antz but if they were humanoid. Second off, great video-which highlights to me the whole problem about debating around each other than at one another. Took me a while to break from that mindset simply because I was 'trained' to speak without knowing what I was talking about. And I do think Owen Broadcast on Twitter talked about this once, on how liberals or mid-wits will take the phrase, "Yikes this isn't so good on YOU." Thus taking a defensive statement of self realization and making it an aggressive statement to highlight someone simply because they don't agree with them. Highlighting and putting the person in place, and shaming them really, despite these things never working on said individuals.

If you're ever unsure, just see if a slight rephrasing sounds like some piece of slanderous gossip you'd hear in high school. "Everyone knows you're a lesbian, Angela." "The guys in the locker room say your mom's a whore, Dave."

@@attentionspanlabs Good test. Also, it is often the logical fallacy of an appeal to authority where the authority is their echo chamber.

Interesting, just as you can use the Socratic method to realize an unconscious truth, you can use it to root out an unconscious lie.

Indeed, although in many cases it's an open question how unconscious their lies are.

@@attentionspanlabs For many midwits, the lies they believe are unexamined. I prefer to avoid imputing motivation, it's easier to let observable reality speak.

It's all sophistry, and it's ancient. I remember pulling the same epic BS essays that your wife described and acing things. It's the sophist ideal of a student taught to be able to rhetorically argue the viability any point. The mission fail for the West is that in their hurry to question and examine, they have unmoored the students from any meaningful ontology, the critique of Aristophanes et al even in their day. As the last of Gen-X, I recall a hard push for moral relativism being taught to my generation. So we were educated to meaninglessly examine and argue everything, except for the moral relativism. To disbelieve what came before, and to embrace the momentary, the feeling, the desire, the impulse. I view it as a loss of the battle that is the push and pull between liberal ideals (which are needed for progress) and conservative ideals (which are needed to moor people in reality and meaning). Conservatism has failed its part in the balance, and liberalism has pushed too far, embracing nihilistic progressivism (becoming ideologues) instead of Millsian style, open, honest, curious, and free willed examination that was Western liberalism. The result is the "liberal" of today is largely an unthinking death cult member, with people willing to "get rid of" people who are inconvenient to the "great pursuit," be it a baby, a ecological trespasser, a member of the "bad guy" other political party, a person who doesn't lock-step agree with the narrative of feelings and acceptance etc.
