The CP1 was my first modern fountain pen since I only had inherited Cross pens. I love the slender size, similar to a Sharpie pen. I really like it. Came with F but I bought a M nib to swap out. I like the pen a lot, personally. I’m female and a lefty

The whole point of the CP1 is for those who prefer slender pens. I find them more precise for drawing, so I really like mine. However the great majority prefer fatter pens, so I am grateful that Lamy makes this thing at all. Definitely a niche pen. I wonder why people who insist on fatter pens don't insist on fatter pencils...

I've had the CP1 in my shopping cart at various stores for years and never pulled the trigger. You've helped me decide that I don't need this pen in my life lol

Thanks for an interesting video. However, there are some points I would take issue with. Contrary to what you say, the CP1 fountain pen has been a big financial success for Lamy - its two variants have been in continuous production since 1974 - 50 years now. The CP1 was never designed as a potential replacement for the 2000. It was designed as Lamy's answer to the 1970s slim fountain pen craze, that began with the Aurora Hastil (1970) and the Montblanc Noblesse models (112x), the Caran d'Ache Madison, Waterman pens and Sheaffer Targa Slim etc. There were several versions of the CP1 made with different finishes and nibs. The CP1 was re-designed in the early 1980s so as to fit the "new" Lamy cartridges (and this is the pen we have today). The CP1 is a great pen, as are the matching ballpoint, rollerball and mechanical pencil. It is thin by modern standards, where baseball bat pens seem to be preferred by many users, but it was "normal" back in the day.

Thanks for the video, it is always informative. Personally, the CP1 is my favorite in Lamy’s lineup. I don’t have a Lamy 2000, not a huge fan of pricy piston fountain pens, the studio is too slippery, and the Safari’s tri-grip and general design is not for me. I agree the grip could be better but it is comfortable if you like thin pens and the plastic end cap really doesn’t bother me, not really noticeable. But I really can understand that it can be bothersome to some people. I find that thin pens are very convenient to take notes (as well as pocket pens), but naturally if you are doing a long writing session it is a different story depending on the writer. I bought mine during sales (around 40€ in Europe) and a month later I had the opportunity to buy a black/gold EF nib… It is now one of my favorite pens!(still wouldn’t buy a 2000 to replace it) But indeed, you have to like thin pens, and upgrade it with a gold nib 😄

I think Lamy CP1 is a great pen that shares the same lineage as Lamy 2000. Hooded nibs don’t do much for me though. If slender pens are not for someone, it’s fine. They can choose a thicker pen. However, that doesn’t take away from how minimalistic and neat this pen is. I would have to disagree with you on the balance of the pen in hand. I have mine in extra fine nib and feels great to write with, even during long writing sessions. At the same time, some folks might find it too plain for the price. It’s understandable. I like it’s plain design and it works well in settings where you don’t want undue attention. That said, I enjoy my CP1 like many others. To each his own. Cheers! 👍🏼

I like the Lamy CP1, I own one only because I got it at a very good price, but if you don’t need that slim form factor, it’s honestly no better that a $20 Pilot Metropolitan (I actually prefer the Pilot Metro). Sure you get the interchangeable Lamy nibs but you can get that in the Safari, Al-Star, and Aion. The CP1 only excels in it’s thinness and that it’s one of Lamy entry level pens that doesn’t have a triangle grip. It’s a weird pen for sure, but many people like it. I do think it’s over priced for what you get, it should be priced similarly to an Al-Star in that $40 range.

You talk about the grip section of the cp1 the easy i feel about my pelikan M800. I realize they are in two completely different classes of pen but i still don't understand how on 50 years they can put an adult sized section on the M1000 and make you pay out the nose for it but on the M800, which i really want to love, they put a section that would be perfect for a 6 year old. Lol Jus sayin' 🤷
