I very much relied on sites like this to play a bunch of Atlas games. Honestly, the fact this happened over internet drama is insane and disappointing. There are so many series I love that weren’t initially released in English or took literal years to be released in my region so I relied on sites like this and even gameFAQs written guides that explained which buttons to press as well as translating. It broadened my gaming horizons so much and fuelled my love of gaming to have access to translations. This was the worst possible time for this in a lot of ways but it would have been even worse years back when there weren’t as many sites around to pick up the slack. This is the most soul, gut wrenching year ever and I really thought last was absolutely terrible. As abit of a romhacker myself, I will and it is my duty to carry on for myself. So much for the sharing is caring side of things here. A new site may take over but I somehow doubt it. A hobby for one's self now sigh.

its sad sights like this are retiring it reminds me of a old school anime sight that had ova in a time when anime was not so accessible. they basically uploaded rare ova and translated ova that never had official english subtitles. while there was not fighting that i know of they basically shut down for similar reasons as the beginning of the message of this sight.

This incident reflects one important truth of life. It doesn't matter if it's the board of directors of a large company like EA, or the leader of a community, having overinflated ego and getting drunk on power can happen to anyone so it's important to keep such people in check and cutting ties earlier rather than putting up with them if the community is strong enough to begin with.

I’m confused. According to the video description, the site shut down due to drama between the owners. What does this have to do with “evil” or the “world?” How does a few people represent billions and millions of communities that have nothing to do with two drama people who can’t run a site right?
@justabearbrowsingyoutube49683 ай бұрын
@@Maximilian1990this is off topic to the video and situation, but preventing old games from ever being public doesn’t protect any IP. Old games would get lost to time if not preserved.

@@lawrencein Old guard getting stubborn, a tale as old as time. Countless endangered languages and crafts were lost forever, because of old people's refusal to speak it with another speaker (whether trauma-related, or just personal beef). It often happens when the new people try to modernize and upgrade whatever was there, and the old legacy guy thinks it's being deleted or they're being usurped. It's no longer about copyright at this point. It's authoritarism, when they get to a point where they start shutting down projects that are not even making money in the first place that's basically telling the fans, no you're not allowed to have fun. The suits who have no experience in gaming and that are just there for profit need to go, not the people who actually care.

Genuinely sad to see. Decades of community created content will be lost. I spent a time as a Submission reviewer there. Even nominated a few submission reviewers on my way out. I guess the last bastion is RHDO and I know the guy who runs it. Talented group of modders with him too and honestly trying to do a good thing for mod/hack enjoyers. I've seen some shit on RHDO but it's like 6+ months old so it's either we have that or nothing. Since RHDN is going down and I'm no longer under and obligation to remain silent, I'm the infamous evil bully that apparently harassed DDS/Retro Tom into the 'No Slur' patch for Goemon. I wasnt allowed to say shit but NicheGamer just published straight up lies about the whole situation. What REALLY happened is that translators often do direct translation. Sometimes you have to pick the closest equivalent. Unfortunately a hurtful word was used and I pointed to site policy on hatespeech to them via DM and they were being harassed by free speech nut jobs and people pissed they included a slur and deactivated. So while NicheGamer directed people to my personal social media's, used my real name and really made it out like I bullied them offline or something stupid, DDS/RetroTom had deactivated and couldn't comment and NC who ran RHDN didn't want ANY controversy due to the legal grey area within which mods/hacks operate so I couldn't say anything while absolute psychos harassed me and made up insane bs to be insane about. But there you go. The true story. Crazy people made up lies to believe and harassed everyone when the truth was the translators chose a more era and region accurate word for a higher quality translation and inline with RHDN site policy 🤷 I left RHDN over that mess
