@@NotMichael349 The funniest thing is the fire-benders in this movie. In the animated show fire-benders would be able to conjure up their own fire or enhance flames nearby using chi, which made them pretty unique compared to the other elements that require nearby sources of their elements. The movie fire-benders never conjure fire, they just use whatever is on a nearby torch or campfire they made with a lighter. The actual show is so good. Every single main character has different unique personalities and relationships. The battle scenes are epic and even the once-every-ten-episodes gimmick characters are really good like the beloved cabbage guy. There was so much potential to make a killer movie and yet, what the hell is this?

I agree. They did every single character dirty, not just by completely changing each and every one of their designs, but also making everyone pathetic and useless. Katara was a badass water bender even if she wasn't that good in Book 1, she was still brave and never backed out from a fight. And Sokka too, even though he wasn't a powerful bender or anything, he was also this quirky, funny character who was still around for comic relief and had his moments where he too fought. The worst rewrite I found was by far the Fire Nation turning Indian and them being basically useless when it comes to fire bending. Like wow, they now need a fire source nearby to fire bend? They can't produce fire on their own? Jeez, just thinking about this movie and how they raped my favorite childhood show gives me PTSD.
@walter41802 жыл бұрын
And an under rated (imo) part of TLA is that it humanizes the 'enemy' that is the fire nation really fucking well and it does it in the simplest way by just showing the audience that a lot of them are just normal people. Makes for some good gags too. Only person the show doesn't really do well is ironically the big bad of the fire nation himself in the fire lord. Probably my only major gripe of the show outside of nitpicks is that Ozai didn't get enough characterization and when we finally do some him doing things, it's the final battle. That said, literally everything else the show does right makes up for it. Oh and the spirit bending shit at the end was a bit hamfisted but eh, not a make or break critique.

I saw this movie I'm pretty sure on opening weekend when it first came out when I was around 9 or so. I was really looking forward to it since both I and my mom loved the original series. We even saw my childhood neighbors in the same theater, and it was entirely packed. by the time the movie was almost done I vast majority of people just left the theater, including the said neighbors, when I asked them why with my 9 year old brain they were just like "its bad" and I agreed, it was nowhere near as good as I thought and hoped it would be and was probably the first time I was actually disappointed with a movie. But even so there was one thing that made me go, no, theirs a chance it could all be made well: the kaiju scene from the series. I was SO looking forward to that scene where you saw aang going around the nation destroying all the fire benders in the form of a giant fish kaiju monster and I was SO looking forward to seeing that in live action in cgi! this! I thought. THIS would redeem the movie in my 9-year-old or so mind at the time, I just had to wait till the end and get to see the big climactic ending! I'm pretty sure I even said to said neighbor at least you gotta wait for the Kaiju scene but they left with their kid anyway. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnndddddddddddddddd they replaced it with a giant tsunami wave. fuck you for destroying my 9 year old dreams to see a giant kaiju fight on the big screen for the first time movie.

This movie actually has to be a social experiment. In the show Toph (easily the strongest or second strongest earthbender) could literally hold up tons for minutes. Theres a part of the show where she has to stop a underground library from collapsing for at least 5 to 10 minutes. We're talking about what is probably upwards of 20 to 30 tons. The shows strongest water benders were capable of bending the blood inside the human body. The waterbenders in the movie can't manage to lift a glass of water. There is no way anyone involved watched the show for any amount of time. We're talking about going from some of the greatest animated television of all time to one of the worst movies ever made.

This movie isn't even a "so bad it's good" style film. In order to be a "so bad it's good" film, the creator must exercise near total ineptitude. In order to be "so bad its good" it must atleast be interesting if only because of jarring lines or its delivery, and the rest of the things you said.
