I am from the Lower Falls and that C S gas was horrific. The Falls curfew, done on a Friday when we had no food shopping done with little food in the houses, and stuck in our small houses is an experience that stays with me to this day. But what a joy it was when the women from all other areas marched into the Falls and faced the soldiers and brought us food. I remember the first thing I asked a woman for was a cigarette!!. Our wee houses wrecked and men dragged out and beaten was horrific. Thank you for this video, I dont think any of us living through all that can forget.

This was going on since 1969 until the 90s day in day out. Last week on the streets of Dublin we had a few hour's of right wing violence and pointless destruction and the country was traumatised. We could never imagine what it felt like to live under those pressure's for a lifetime. A bridge to far., ✌️☘️

Glasgow University has a whole museum devoted to their occupation,which went as far North as Aberdeen. They built a wall between The Forth and Clyde, Antonines wall,it was as extensive as Hadriens,which is actually in England !

As a "proddy" (protestant) kid growing up in England during the 60s and 70s I took an interest in "The Troubles" largely because my questions of what it was about were met largely with ignorance from my parents, grandparents etc. The MSM news we were fed obviously labelled the IRA as terrorists - so myself and my peers grew up with this belief. Later as I read more (including Martin Dillon; and many others including "tout" biographies); and now through excellent broadcasts such as this channel we are all hopefully waking up to the real truth. Who can say that if we were oppressed and denied the opportunity for decent employment , housing - and hope - we would not join such a military organisation to fight back? What is that quote about the most dangerous animal being the man who has nothing left to lose?

The problem with both the republicans and the loyalists was in assuming people have an automatic right to take up arms to correct real or percieved injustice. The paramilitaries still would have been wrong if the only people they ever killed were soldiers and police, and the problems started when both communities embraced the demonic ideas of liberation and democratic rule. That said I do agree that the nationalists who joined the IRA at the outbreak of the conflict from 1969 through internment should be regarded as somewhat less culpable than those who were still in it by the 1980s by which point it should have been clear to everyone that the paramilitaries were morally iredeemable.

There was as much deprivation in Protestant working class areas of Belfast at that time as there was in Roman Catholic areas. Hume and his organisation never at any time tried to engage with the Unionist working class as his main aim was a United Ireland or nothing. And as many contributers on here seem to forget it was two Irish Republican politicians who demanded that the Army be sent to Northern Ireland

The B specials in the South we saw them as Black and Tans. If they had dissolved the B specials, reformed the RUC and given civil rights to Catholic people it would have worked. No they screwed it up, Faulkner and Dr No would never have given an inch plus mainland in- action Farrar Hockley was right. This is one of the best documentaries ive seen. Faulkner, Dr No, and inept politicians making a civil war.

If the Nationalists in Northern Ireland were so badly treated, why didn't they seek refuge in the ROI? It seems strange that Nationalists numbers in NI have increased, whilst the Protestant population in the Republic of Ireland has decreased considerably to a meagre 3% of the population.

Mistakes made by Maudling, Heath they should have got rid of Stormont and put direct rule when the troops had to come in due to Faulkner, Dr No the evil B specials and Protestant RUC.
