Very good. The new bridge is not just accessible, it is high enough for overhead electrification. And that means that pollution-free trains can be brought to the area. This is what should have been done at Pilning, when the electrification was done there.

Network Rail does what it likes... In spite of the Public.

The public will be/are in favour of this, making life much easer for so many. The old structure will be restored and perfectly preserved rather than left to deteriorate and become unsafe.

@@Cornishpastyman St Erth residents joined the campain to save this footbridge, I gave my support to the Parish Council and received thanks and Cornwall Council due to the opposition and it's listed status refused PP IN 2014.

@@barleyarrish I can understand St Erth residents and Cornwall Council wishing for it to remain, but with a new structure essential for several reasons, primarily safe, easy accessibility for the mobility challenged, the old one no longer has a purpose. It would soon deteriorate and ultimately become unsafe so it’s better by far that it’s removed, restored and preserved for future generations at a heritage railway site.

@@Cornishpastyman why on Erth would a Disabled Man or Woman choose to cross the tracks? Up to now the Bridge has not proved unsafe in it's long history. There are innumerable stations in this Country that are unsuitable for use by the disabled, so unsurprisingly other options are available for the less able traveller, which to be practicle are far more user friendly in all respects than a train. And in times when our economy is going from bad to worse, how money is spent is very relevent to our needs. Heretage and Natural Beauty are what drives what is left of our Cornish Economy, it is important not to compromise this with no really pressing need. I'm sure Michael Flanders if he were alive would agree.

@@barleyarrish London to St Ives by train includes a change at St Erth. In my wheelchair it is nearly half a mile around the outside of the station to cross platforms. A bridge with lifts makes this so much easier. Not just easier for wheelchairs but also for anyone with a pushchair or a heavy suitcase for example. I am unaware of a better option than the train.

The old bridge had to go......it couldn't take the weight of the thousands of 2024 smartphones going over.
