My favorite song from them ❤! Seriously don't know why people call them industry plants just because. They obviously didn't do any research on them or watch any other of their performances. The band was formed in 2021, most of them met through college and mutual friends. They've played small gigs in London and opened for bigger artists before getting signed to their current label.

The hype of (2024) . This years Wet Leg (whatever happened to them they were going to be huge according to the comments on YT ). I think this band is OK . Not bad . But certainly not that good either. I challenge all you people raving about them to imagine they were an all male band . Would you rave about them so much ??
@alanadams7071
@alanadams7071 12 күн бұрын
It's absolutely fine for you to not like them mate but it isn't OK for you to project your POV onto others. The only connection between this group and Wet Leg is the hype, and also that there is a female vocalist. But apart from that they are miles apart in terms of their music and their fan base. IMO TLDP are very talented songwriters and musicians, and sonically different to most of the guitar band music around today, and not just because they are female. You can basically split their fan base into 2 categories. Young females who are there for the aesthetic as much as the music. And yes, this group of people will definitely be influenced by the fact the band members are all female. But the band also have a huge following of older people, 55 plus, who are there for the music. Their discology is heavily influenced by the acts we grew up with in the 70s, Abba, Queen, Sparks, Kate Bush, Bowie, Roxy Music to name a few. It has nothing to do with gender. I'm guessing you are from a different generation so you wouldn't necessarily get their music the same way we do. Wet Leg, who I think are OK but nothing special, have gone off the radar mainly because they haven't produced any new music for over 2 years. Let's see how they do if and when they release their second album before writing them off. TLDP on the other hand have 4 unreleased songs that they regularly play at live gigs and the general consensus amongst fans is that this material is even better than most of the songs on the album. I'm certainly of that opinion. They will be going into the studio to record their second album at the end of the year and have a multitude of songs already written. If I were a betting man I would say their sophomore album will be released late spring/early summer of 2025 and will be a step up on their debut. You may still not like them that much but their popularity will continue to grow IMO.

@@alanadams7071 Your overlong essay (precis please !) is full of mistakes. If I may sum up. You really like the band , and I actually said I think this band is Ok . Not that I did not like them . A subtle difference that seems to have passed you by. I can let the above go but what I won't let go is your effort to censor my POV. I am not projecting my POV onto others I am expressing my opinion. . You express your POV yet you feel others cannot do so ??? Oh by the way I am indeed from a different generation form the band . Moreover, I know all the artists you have quoted . I like most of them and have done for a long time ( hint ) . I have also seen most of them live too . As it happens I support modern music . I don't subscribe to the theory that music was so much better in the 1960's or say the 1980's. But not Wet Leg nor the TLDP. My current favs are the National, Polly Harvey, London Grammar, Wolf Alice, LP, Agnes Obel, Suede, First Aid Kit, Interpol, Bat for Lashes, Sharon Van Etten, Florence and the Machine, The Kills ., Lana Del Rey etc. I have seen all of those live at least once except the latter. I repeat if this band were all Male would they get the same hype that they are definitely getting ?
@alanadams7071
@alanadams7071 12 күн бұрын
@@keithbate9405 Haha. And I thank you for your own essay, also riddled with errors. But I forgive you. Firstly, how did I not allow you a POV when I actually said it was absolutely fine for you to not like them (not like is not the same as dislike by the way). Plus you basically implied that TLDP fans only rave about them because they are female, and wouldn't if they were male. Tell me I'm wrong. If that's not imposing your POV on others I don't know what is. Secondly when talking about generations I meant that you were not of the same generation as me (over 55), not the band. And if you got to see any of the acts I mentioned live, never mind most of them, then you are a very lucky man indeed. I grew up with them and never got the chance to see any of them. Can I also ask what you mean by hype. Were you referring to the amount of media hype surrounding them? If so it's possible that some of this may be because they are all female, but only part of it. They are also, IMO, very talented/ Plus the media also hype up all male bands, such as Fontaines at the moment, so why should this be perceived differently? If however, you were referring to the hype from the fans, which was my assumption since you specifically mentioned social media comments, then I already conceded in my previous post that this could well be the case with some of the young female fans. But even then I think they still love the bands music in much the same way that us older fans do. Gender has nothing to do with it with us boomers. I'll also turn your question on it's head a little. There are a lot of people out there that dislike, and in some cases, hate TLDP. Would they hate them as much if they were an all male band? Anyway, apologies for the essay. I found myself having to repeat a lot of my original post.
@keithbate9405
@keithbate9405 12 күн бұрын
@@alanadams7071 I am not going to get involved in a long debate with you. Pointless. . I stand by my previous post in reply to your original post. People can make their own minds up. Re TLDP let us see where they are in 2 years time. If you go onto YT sites for Wet Leg. You will see my posts saying that the absurd comments from others are nonsense (best band I have heard since the 1960's etc. ). I forecasted they would be virtually forgotten in a couple of years time. I think I have been vindicated. Re Music I am a Boomer . A much older Boomer than you, and I am a boomer who does not care for TLDP . You said "Boomers like them" . Well none of my Boomer friends like them ! I saw those bands in the 1970's because I was born in the mid 1950's. I remember music before the Beatles . Who from 1964 (after hearing a Hard Days Night ) became my favourite band. They remain my favourite band from the "rock and roll years " . Since 1972 I have been to around 1200 gigs /2000 artists with supports. I still regularly go to gigs. But If you gave me a free tickets to TLDP or indeed Oasis I would not go !! But apart from the Beatles (in a class of their own) I think modern music holds its own with any previous musical decade. But I listed my current favourite artists for you. In my opinion TLDP are not in the same class as say London Grammar , First Aid Kit, Wolf Alice , Bat for Lashes, Polly Harvey. Other bands that are either female dominated or have a female lead singer /songwriter . In fact if you notice my current fav list . It is female dominated ! TLDP may get better in the future . If so I will reassess their output . We shall see. But for now it is all about the hype. I see nothing of the quality of the bands and artists I have listed in them. We shall see.

Wet leg are overrated. Don't forget Wet Leg and The Last dinner party are both different bands. It is strange to compare those 2. Last dinner party are often compared to arcade fire, wolf Alice, Florence and the machine and lastly sparks.
