Many videos display a 'straight' (rather than 'circular') last kick. Even Master Moy's video shows a 'straight' leg work. Yet, watching the old Leung Tze Pang footage, it does seem to be a 'circular' sweep. I've also observed a clear 'circular' sweep from first generation well established instructors that had been taught by Mstr Moy himself. So what to make of it?

Hi Guy, Just came across your comment here from 2 years ago! So sorry I missed it! Hope you are still watching and hope you don't mind if I answer it anyway LOL. I remember my first workshop in Orangeville back in the mid 80's where I was having a major discussion with another student about this very subject. He was kind of a Kung Fu guy and felt that the kick was sort of a 'roundhouse' kick, and I was of the opinion that it was more of a 'direct in front' kick without the circular leg sweep ( as I thought was how Mr. Moy did it). It was finally settled by a senior instructor ( whom I don't remember) who pointed out the balance of the foot meeting the hands front and center from the turning of the spine. Seemed to make sense to me and so that's how I work it. Something that I came to realize is that in the early days there were a lot of 'Kung Fu' guys attracted to what Mr. Moy was teaching and they brought a lot of the kung fu techniques with them. That's always the challenge...unlearning what you know to learn what you don't know. Cheers
