Peter Jackson 's achievement in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies is unequaled. I am 74 and first read the Tolkien books in my twenties. I have read most of them many times including the less popular ones about the mythology of Middle Earth. The books have never lost their appeal and I own many editions of them and of course the movies. Just looking at stills of the various movies is almost like viewing paintings. I do believe that the movies, as the books, will endure for a very long time. In the times of uncertainty and turmoil on many fronts Middle Earth I think offers a refuge for many. I wonder if Tolkien ever knew the profound impact his writings would have. I am glad this man graced us with his talent and the world of Middle Earth which silly as it seems offers refuge and comfort to so many.

I imagine this song (the Billy Boyd version from the end of the last movie) to be written and sung by Bilbo. But I imagine this version to be a reprise of their friend's song by the last remaining of the thirteen Dwarves at the end of the Third Age (Dwalin, Gloin, Dori, Nori, Bifur, Bofur and Bombur) as they travel from Erebor to bid farewell to Bilbo as he leaves Middle Earth from the Grey Havens. Dwalin : I saw the light fade from the sky On the wind I heard a sigh Gloin : As the snowflakes cover my fallen brothers All Dwarves : I will say this last goodbye Nori : Night is now falling Bifur : So ends this day Bombur : The road is now calling Dori : And I must away All Dwarves : Over hill and under tree Through lands where never light has shone By silver streams that run down to the sea Under cloud, beneath the stars Over snow one winter's morn I turn at last to paths that lead home Bombur : And though where the road then takes me I cannot tell All Dwarves : We came all this way But now comes the day To bid you farewell Dwalin : Many places I have been Bifur : Many sorrows I have seen Gloin : But I don't regret Bofur : Nor will I forget All Dwarves : All who took the road with me Nori : Night is now falling So ends this day Bofur : The road is now calling Bombur : And I must away All : Over hill and under tree Through lands where never light has shone By silver streams that run down to the sea *They arrive to the Grey Heavens, where Bilbo is about to leave Middle Earth.* Bilbo : To these memories I will hold With your blessing I will go To turn at last to paths that lead home And though where the road then takes me I cannot tell All : We came all this way But now comes the day To bid you farewell *Bilbo is now sailing West.* Bilbo : I bid you all a very fond farewell

Unbelievable. I've sat down lots of times wishing that when I die, I may be reborn in the world of Tolkien. And yet, in my deepest place of heart, I weep, for I know I'll never be able to live there, to see those lands. I yearn them as if I've seen them, as one who's walked those forests and climbed those mountains and rowed down those rivers. Alas, it's a wish that'll never come true, call it a young man's craziness, the hopeless dreaming of a boy who has not had his share of the cruelty of this world yet, to come and darken my mind. So I can only thank Tolkien for all he's ever given to me, us. A beautiful world, a beautiful bunch of languages, and thanks to him I can use the English language better, as it is neither the first nor the second I ever learned. Leave your thoughts in the replies if you also feel like I do

Max Miller -- read "Leaf by Niggle." An odd little short story of Tolkien's, expressing, among other things, that the worlds an artist creates may (by sheer underserved grace) be found in Heaven to explore and to share with others.😂
@Neerepha7 жыл бұрын
Max Miller Same goes for me. Tolkien gave me the chance to improve a language I was study at school and to bring it to a level I couldn't imagine. Many native English speakers I have met online through the years mistaken me for one of them, and even though I am still far from being perfect, their praises means a lot to me. But more than this, Tolkien made me meet my dearest friends and my boyfriend, and gave me the courage to work in England all by myself for six months. While there, I visited the two towers of Birmingham, his childhood house where I saw the trees as tall and gnarly as the Ents, and finally, I spent many hours sat next to his grave. At the end of summer, I'll definitely move to England, and despite the increasing racism and the latest happenings, I keep feeling the call of those hills, those woods and lawns. I guess it has become to me what the West is to the Elves: I know that somehow, I'll be at home.

This song.... It makes me very emotional. Not because of the movies, no because I've had to say goodbye to friends in real life. Not by death, but by adulthood, that means careers and the army (mandatory military service in my country).... I haven't heard from many of them in years, but sometimes I do miss them and I have even reached out to some of them on social media, suggesting we meet again or something..... And I get a reply like "Yeah, sure", but that is that.... They've grown up, they have kids and careers now.... While I still remain. And it feels a lot of time like I actually lost my friends.

And if it is so granted, comes another like time when friends, family, schoolmates, and classmates one by one take their leave, and as time goes on do so at an increasing pace, each by their own road, in their own way, until we in our turn follow, may they all have gone, and may we all go with strength and with peace to a joyous reunion!

Honest advice if you want a better life take it nothing is given to you. We have a bad tendency to procrastinate and not get anything done. you have to set goals, force yourself to do things. living by nothing but your own impulses and temporary desires between work hours is nothing more than self made slavery. This WILL leave you wanting, one day realizing you've wasted all these years that you will not get back. once it's over it's over no second chance, this is something people should really grasp early in their lives.

The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit movies will always have a special place in my heart. I loved each of these movies and the moments that happened in them. In these movies, we experience friendship, love, courage, and the will to fight for all that is good in the world, no matter how bleak the situation, and no matter how the odds are stacked against you. I am sad that no other films set in Middle-Earth will be made. But I will always remember the journey of the Fellowship and all of it’s members. So to Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Gandalf, Aragorn, Boromir, Legolas, and Gimli, I bid you all a fond farewell. The journey was a fond one and I will forever remember the ups and downs of it all.

Anyone else feel ridiculously sad when they think about the ending of the days of middle earth, the elves leave, the dwarves tunnel deeper more down beneath the earth until they either are lost, die out, or are slain by ancient evils, the hobbits remain reclusive and slowly dissapear, all that is left is the fading race of men to see the ending of all days, the blood of Numenor spent, and not a spark of magic left to the world of men in the end.

Tis how it was, tis how it will be. Even the brightest of stars forged by Ilúvatar will fade one day, but before it fades it will shine the brightest, as the forces of Men, Elves, Dwarves, and Hobbits clash with foul beings in Dagor Dagorath, Battle of Battles. And thus, the evil of the world will be vanquished and the Song of Ilúvatar will start anew.

I held it together until,” I bid you all a very fond farewell.” As a life long lotr fan this means so much more to me than just the end of the song. That line is the end of a generation, the end of a world that made me the person I am today. Middle Earth will always be a part of me, and although I can re watch the movies and re read the books, the thought of the end to the endless universe just hits me hard... it was a great journey to be apart of and I wish this journey to never end. But as my great teacher said, “ The point of a journey is to come home again.” Yes I will always tear up when I think of Grey Havens or back to the Shire... but as sad as I am I know that the end is good... this fond farewell is not the end, but the beginning. The beginning of the enjoyment of two trilogies that will last me s life time. The end is a fearful thing, but one must learn to keep marching on... I’ll never forget when o watched the end of the Hobbit or the Return of the King and heard the beginnings of those songs... and I will cherish those moments forever... we shall all be united in middle earth forever... sorry if I bored you, but I felt the need to get it out... thanks

Iv'e seen the "i want this to be played at my funeral" comment many many times during my time on youtube but i truly think this one is the one for me, it brings me a incomprehensible feeling of sadness and nostalgia and reminds me of a quote, "Don't cry because it's over, Smile because it happened" As if iv'e live my life to it's fullest and now comes my time to meet all those that have left before me.

When you realize that mr tolkien was inspired by the will to survive of the hebrews, when asked if he was Jewish by a Nazi book publisher he said “I wish for they are an inspiring people”. As a child of the matriarch bloodlines, we thank you. As the last of my tribe, I thank you. Your devotion to showcase the reality of the Jew is far beyond measures of kindness, though profit is always a must to create a stable household, it’s defining desire is that for a home, above any treasure that has to be offered, it would be a merrier place if we valued home above gold. I’m in tears over this. It’s so melancholic, so sad and heart wrenching when you know that goodbyes always come, and that the “last goodbye” is the one before death. Death of loved ones, friends and comrades is so heartbreaking. Yet the time spent with them is ever so precious. But fate will inevitably tear you apart through some means, “and I must away” can mean for both the dead or those who must move on from them, because that’s how it must be.

When I do my homework I like to sit down, put your music, close my eyes and imagine all the story again. And then at the end I put the lotr soundtrack and concentrate on my homework.
