I love how in all your original songs, you emphasize that the true treasure of Hammerdeep's dwarves isn't gold or jewels or even mithril, but their loyalty, bravery, honesty and generousity. All the bling is just ornamentation. The dwarves themselves are the treasure.

This song not only made me realise, finally, what it is I find so appealing about Dwarves, but also what I find so fascinating about the idea of Heaven. It's all in the word, Forever. Forever isn't a thing in this world. Everything in this world is fleeting, and there's certainly beauty in that fleeting nature. The fact that something will come and go and never be there again is beautiful. The idea that a few or even a single person may get to see that one thing during it's time is incredible. The fact that even the night sky above will, one day, be unrecognisable from how it looks now, is mind-blowing. But Forever is special. If anything is Forever, then it's mere existence is, in a way, beautiful. And Dwarves don't build a Kingdom, or anything, for the here and now. They make it for Forever.
@Nerobyrne
@Nerobyrne Жыл бұрын
What always bothered me about heaven is that the claim is that I will live forever. If I build a legacy that lasts a thousand years, then I can rest in peace, knowing I've done more than was asked of me. In heaven, there is no rest. I will never know peace. Well, unless my mind is altered to a point that I might as well be dead, so what's the difference?

I get it. the Sons of Boic are fighting to never again fall under a demon's thrall. They fell to greed once, but with Boic's way, they strive to be remembered not by their riches, but by the purity and selflessness of their hearts. That is what makes Hammerdeep, Hammerdeep. They know they will fall, as all mortals and mortal things do. But they want to serve as an example to future generations.

This is a great song that I keep coming back to. It makes me think of my ancestors: The Massacre of the Nobili family of Lozio 1410. In the struggle between the Ghibellini and the Guelphs factions in the Camonica valley just to the southwest of Val di Sole an ancient family castle was burned and a price of 100 gold coins was placed by the Nobili family upon the head of any remaining family member. Those that survived and fled planned revenge. No detail was to small, nothing could be left to chance! As the Nobili family gushed in their new wealth, celebrating the past year’s victories and the murder they thought complete we planned. Then when the enemy let their guard down and gathered for a Christmas feast we struck. Diverting a small river, so it would flood the land surrounding the village, we stationed what was left of the family. The cold froze the water at night making it impossible to walk much less fight in armor. We came forth from our hiding places and attacked. Wearing spike shoes so as not to slip on the ice they took no prisoners. No one survived! This is the legend of the Federici. So complete, so well planned, so utterly terrible was this vengeance, that it impressed all warring factions, that no retribution was allowed by either Pope, Emperor or Republic.

These songs make me appreciate the Dwarves allot more. I wished there was some kind of song in Khuzdul that was so catchy, every Tolkien fan knows it. Or like the vikings when they formed their shield wall, shouting a rhyme that all of their kind know and follow in unison to get into a mindset. Like when the Dwarven army at the lonely mountain set up their shield wall "as if it was something they knew since birth, second nature" if only there was a rhyme with those Dwarves setting up that defensive maneuver. Or if we had Gimli shouting a Rhyme at the top of the deeping wall.. :D
