The great thing about Last Kingdom is it doesn't waste any time. So much shit happens in an episode that even the slow ones are chocked full of content.

Poor Uhtred. One thing they don't spell out quite as boldly in the show as they do in the books is that Uhtred has cared for Aethelflaed like family since she was a tiny girl, ever since they spent a lot of time in each other's company during the time when they were all hiding in the marshes. At this point, it has nothing to do with them both being Saxons. Aethelflaed is like one of his own, and he made a promise to protect her. And unfortunately nobody understands that.

While I agree with everything you said, the “convincing battles” towers over all the others. I can’t tell you how boring and stupid I find the battle scenes in Vikings. Every single battle looks like a giant shoving contest. None of the combatants look like they really want to hurt the other and as a result look like children playing with wooden swords. The combat and battle in the last kingdom are far superior to anything Vikings has ever showed us.

@@locomojoboy2 I totally agree with you, I didn't see a decent battle since the attack of Paris. The battle showed in episode 6x10 has been a massive letdown for me, so much nonsensical scenes! From this point of view TLK has become far superior.

locomojoboy2 In terms of historical accuracy maybe, but the battles specifically in season 3 weren’t amazing compared to one and two. They just mostly show violent and brutal deaths with rarely any choreography in the battles. Definitely not better than Vikings battles in terms of entertainment.

locomojoboy2 Vikings has rarely used the shield wall in battles and that’s why I mentioned the historical accuracy. What I said is that the battles are much more entertaining in Vikings, better choreographed with insane cinematography. The Last Kingdom, especially season 3 has battles where most of the are brutal deaths. Rarely any choreography for the certain characters which makes it less enjoyable for television. The books do battles rich and full of detail. If you haven’t already, you should check them out because season 3 done disservice to the battles that were in the books which were ten times better. Book Uhtred’s strategic skills are fantastic but the show has dumbed him down. Battle at Fearnhamme/Farnham in episode 1 was so good in the books and probably the best in the season. The more disappointing battles were the ones in Beamfleot/Benfleet in episode 5 and the Battle of Holme in episode 10. They completely changed how they were done in the books.

This was a great episode! Intense and filled with so many plot turns. I swear Aethelwald is truly a lot smarter than people give him credit. @Gaia Kay Well said. It is so sad to see the inconsistency in Vikings. In my opinion Hirst writing has gone from majestic to abysmal. The same storylines are repeated season after season. I am especially mad what he did with Björn's character (his womanizing is so tiring to watch as well Hvitserks addiction). And the story line with Floki in Iceland, oh wait, there was no story. Sorry for this rant, somehow you triggered me! :)

I loved seeing Leofric again. They done that really well and I miss his character so much. I’m so happy with Aldhelm. He cares more for the survival of Mercia and the flourish of it rather than just watching it turn to shit with Aethelred. Fuck Aethelred that piece of shit. Aethelwold continuing to be a slimy scheming shit too. I know you’re not going to like what his character does next episode. It was good to see all the Danes together even though it didn’t last long.Blood hair, Haesten, Cnut, Ragnar and Uhtred against Alfred would’ve been great to see but of course complications everywhere. You see, this is where they done it wrong compared to the books again. Uhtred and Ragnar left on good terms even though you could understand both of their reasonings. Uhtred and Skade, that was shit. I hate that storyline so much. Love these reactions. Next episode is crazy but fucking piss taking as well. I can’t wait for that reaction.

IMO it's not really that Uthred feels any lingering loyalty to Alfred, not at all, he really is done with Alfred and his bullshit. However, he's a compassionate person who doesn't want innocent people to die, that's why he struggles to support Ragnar while Ragnar plans to invade Wessex.

@@KristiinaBerg i agree it's not more then 10 years in the show i think Uthred was around 16-18 when his family was killed and Aethelflead seem around 9-10, but personal i like Erik and Aethelfead better because there was more respect between the both of them Aethelfead is always tell Uthred where is his and her place is SPOLIER!!!!!!!!!!! and in the end her place ended up being a waste in the end considering Edward ended up taking Mercia away from for her bloodline in the end.
