There is no comparing Vikings to this show. TLK is far better. I even choose this show over GOT. I just prefer the real historical aspect over fantasy. Interesting to read about the real Uhtred and his path in history. The man who wrote these books found out he was a distant relative of Uhtred. That's why he was written into this story line. Whereas his path in life occurred 100 years later. Some very interesting videos on here about all this history surrounding this show.

Agree. While there is still some writers leeway with history, TLK seems to be closer to history than Vikings. The real Ihtred was indeed about 100 years later than the show but held lands repeatedly and was a power Lord in Northumbria. Unfortunately he died a somewhat unceremonious death by getting ambushed with a few of his men. Uhtred the Bold was his nickname because he was so vicious in battle. Vikings was Travis Fimmel and Linus Roache (Ecbert) when they left the show definitely slipped a bit - although Ubbe and Ivar were pretty good characters for the most part. GOT - don’t even get me going on that pos. Alexander Draymon is one friggin hell of an actor and has developed so well over these 5 seasons.

Brida's anger had consumed her and turned her into an ice cold woman filled with hatred and revenge. I partly understood her. She lost her first child, she couldn't give Ragnar an heir, she lost Ragnar, she found that her baby's father was the one who plotted to have him killed, she was captured, spent her whole pregnancy imprisoned and humiliated only to also lose her daughter. I also understood had anger towards Uhtred cause he basically have up on her and never tried to save her while she was hostage. But that doesn't justify her deep hate.

The flashbacks were both Uhtred and Brida's at the same time. You get that when watching the flashbacks from the scene of her miscarrying their child. Uhtred wasn't there for that he came to her after it was finished. The burial scene in the beginning was how they buried their Kings and other important people. They buried them in a ship with usually their horse, with those things needed. Many of the Viking burial's that have been found like that though usually only metal and bones remain. Uhtred (Alexander) was approx 17 when this show started. In the book series by Book 9 Uhtred was in his 60's. In the series they didn't age Uhtred which in a way I get but also doesn't help anyone. This show has shown time jumps by the children who are replaced yet the adult people never age which is just wrong. Everything about this show is outstanding except their ways of showing time passing. That is the one thing this show did wrong.
@AllieB-11.11 Жыл бұрын
So weird that Uhtred is in his 60s by this point as Brida would be a similar age yet she had a daughter that was about 8 or 10. She would've been too old to have a child in her 50s.

I loved how this show used Uthred's children to show us his inner struggle and how each of them represent one of the two life's Uthred has. I saw this episode as bringing that struggle to the forefront especially regarding to brida as one side of Uthred wanted to show compassion an forgiveness shown through Young Uthred while the other side of Uthred wanted to stand on honour and seek vengeance shown though Stiorra. For me the final scene with brida was more of Uthred having a battle with himself. Should he show compassion and forgiveness or stand on honour and seek vengeance. The flashbacks kept going back and forth between good and bad memories he had shared with brida but as the final flashback was a good memory it led to him choosing compassion and forgiveness over honour and vengeance.

About that age thing... Uhtred was born in 855 or 856, the series started in 866, when Uhtred was about 10. Ragnar the fearless died when Uhtred was about 15, and when Uhtred was freed from slavery, he was 22 or 23 years old. Alfred died in 899 and the last battle of season 3 actually happened about 2 years later, which means that Uhtred was 45 at the end of season three. Aethelred died in 911 & Aethelflead died 6 years later, in 917... So in season 5, Uhtred is in his early sixties! This whole series is going to end in 937, so Uhtred would be about 82 years old! But Alexander Dreymon is obviously not that old 😅... Actually, the producers of the show once said, that there is kind of an unwritten rule, that we don't talk about Uhtred's age! 😅🙈

To understand Brida's point of view you have to ignore everything you see from Uhtred's point of view. How he NEVER supported her as soon as he started going on this journey of "reclaiming Bebbanburg" as soon as they lost what she saw (and supposedly he saw) as their family. Then Uhtred dedicates his life to the line of Wessex. Which is arguably a path of good decisions as we see them from Uhtred's point of view: sometimes he didn't even have a choice! But all those things Brida didn't know, heck even Ragnar didn't know. The whole "I had to bend the knee to Alfred to save Ragnar's life" for example only came after Ragnar's death and Brida even said to Uhtred that he should have told Ragnar. But Uhtred constantly also made decisions that drove him away from his family, whether it's Uhtred or Brida. But let's all go back to, avenging their family, so many times Uhtred chose another way, delaying avenging Ragnar (the oldest) and their family, and rescuing Thyra. He chose to stay in England and not to follow Brida and Ragnar to assemble an army, first crack in their relationship. Even when she lost the baby, he didn't really support her yknow. He was galavanting doing his own thing with Alfred, trying to win his favors etc. Then they come back, but yet again, several times Uhtred walks away from Ragnar and Brida, to go back to Alfred, and to circle back being on the other side of the battlefield. Time and time again, Brida and Ragnar welcomed Uhtred back at their own despite all that. The true breaking point for Brida obviously is Ragnar's death, she blamed Uhtred sure, but blamed herself as well, more than she ever was able to voice it. But even through all this pain, Uhtred betrays her YET AGAIN, when letting her be prisoner of the Scots, rather than killing her. Because he can't, even tho SHE chooses to die. Time and time again, this whole Uhtred/Brida dynamic, even Uhtred/Brida/Ragnar showed Uhtred making very selfish, one-sided choice (again, that's forgetting everything he does for Wessex, for Aethelflaed etc, these don't count for Brida) that constantly cost Brida (and Ragnar) more than they ever cost Uhtred himself (at least she thinks so). So yeah, her anger and her lashing out, trying to hurt Uhtred as much as he hurt her, was very much in character, and logical, and out of a place of love. Like this damaged, broken, turned-to-hatred kind of love that destroys a lot on its path. It's all summed up in the scene the flashbacks show. Brida wants to kill Uhtred, just as much as she wants to die herself. Uhtred wants to kill Brida. But ultimately, they love each other too much. That's what makes the scene hurt. It's not a scene rooted in hatred, but in this tragedy of lost, damaged, broken love that was so much more, could have been so much more, could still be, hoped Uhtred. But ultimately it was run short by Stiorra.

And also I thought Uhtred's ladies were not fit for him or in the case of Aethlefled I found her boring. Brida was difficult but she was real, she was not a bullshitter. And she was the type of person that would die for you. I'll always remember when Uhtred was getting ill when he was with the witch and Brida showed up and was like what the Hell is that fucking shit and pretty much saved Uhtred's life. But when she maimed Uhtred's son, she became pure Evil from that point. But to see all of it played out when they fought at the end my wish was happening before my eyes. I was like I cannot believe we are gonna see the old Brida again and they are gonna be together. I was so damn emotional and he was convincing her to somewhat repent. And just when they were going to be together she gets shot. It was so similar when Ygritte was killed in GoT in front of Jon Snow. What a punch to the stomach as a viewer! You're like noooo! I get why his daughter did it, though. It makese sense. And maybe it was better for Brida to leave this World. I cannot imagine her living side by side with Uhtred's son. Cause it would be a living memory of what she did. That would haunt her and torture her mind. But what a great character she was. I would place her right after Uhtred, Alfred and Finan.

I think Ivar The Boneless story in Vikings is like Breda both build on revenge

The last kingdom is so so good. Way better than Viking , even the overhyped GOT. It is more personal and all the characters are well played with good script. That last scene just encompasses what this show is all about. Amazing

You guys should try Lost next it’s the OG of tv series. And have I ever steered you wrong before nope so trust me

Bebbanburg is in Northumbria, on the border of Scotland and Alba. That's why Constantine cares. Uthred's father allied with King Athelred a Saxon. His uncle allied with the Danes..if you remember, the Scots made incursions into Bebbanburg at the beginning of Season 4. That's how close the borders are and Constantine wants to conquer that side of Northumbria. And now, Whithhar is swearing to the Scots ( he did not care for Edward). Question is, who will the next Lord of Bebbanburg swear to?🤔

yay you've been giving us more reactions and quick! i come on here to always check and see if you uploaded a new reaction video to this show lol. such an amazing show, but damn Uhtred is fucking handsome, and with that long hair. i liked ragnar too so much. Uthred deserves so much, he gets everything taken from him, and he deals with so much. he's so strong mentally and physically. brida pissed me off after a while, i hated her when she got way too much into her head, and the revenge shit when she was doing way too much. i wish they made more seasons, but i can't wait for the movie to come out. plus my bf is watching the show with me even tho i've seen it, so it's fun rewatching it and i wish i could rewatch the show for the first time again, but this will do.

The age stuff is definitely confusing! So many years pass by between seasons or every between the first half of a season and the latter half. I searched it up and Uhtred is 62 years old in season 5!! that’s crazy. Of course they don’t look it because the actors are never changed. Lady Æthelflæd and her mother Ælswith should be at least 20 years apart but the actresses are the same age!

Brida is the most annoying character in TLK.She was alright in season 1 and 2. I think the flashbacks were meant to invoke audience emotion for Uthred because Brida had been unforgivable since season 3.Good job Stiorra took her out.
@pkrmkn31 Жыл бұрын
she had been unforgivable, yet uhtred kept forgiving her. i think you miss the point of her character
