The year is 872, and many of the separate kingdoms of what we now know as England have fallen to the invading Danes, leaving the great kingdom of Wessex standing alone and defiant under the command of King Alfred.
Against this turbulent backdrop lives our hero, Uhtred. Born the son of a Saxon nobleman, he is captured by the Danes and raised as one of their own. Forced to choose between the country of his birth and the people of his upbringing, his loyalties are ever tested.
What is he? Saxon or Dane?
On a quest to reclaim his birthright, Uhtred must tread a dangerous path between both sides if he is to play his part in the birth of a new nation and, ultimately, recapture his ancestral lands.

@@PTM720 No they were not. The first Scandinavians were indeed dark skinned and blue eyed, but the Viking era was about 10 000 years later. It’s not too long ago, and there are art depicting people from then, pretty clearly showing what people looked like. Also we have oilportraits of lords and royals from 14-1500AD and they were very veeeery pale (fashion at the time), I do not think that the population was black 5 generations prior. But it’s interesting enough that if you go back long enough science suggests that the entire human population was dark skinned.

You should quit after Season 3. It becomes a dumb chick flick partway through Season 4, and it is just pathetic, contrived nonsense. The original screenwriter left at the end of Season 3. I've been fast-forwarding through Season 5 to try to find watchable parts....some random girl is now coming out of hiding to confront some supposed great female warrior, just for laughs and because the current writers have no talent.

I believe this show to be massively underrated. The storyline and the development of several characters - it is just so well done, I have no words. The actors are amazing. I agree that it feels a bit like both GoT and Vikings (which is a good mix!), however I actually find that I like this show even better. It's just overall more thought-through plot-wise in my opinion.. it is more subtle in its greatness, I guess, which I really like. I especially find the emotional bonds between the characters and the morals dilemmas that Uhtred is constantly faced with so incredible well devised. And I find not only Uhtred to be interesting but almost all the other characters as well. What I also really like is how it isn't just about 'the good and the bad' in this story but that good and bad is seen in both the Saxons and the Danes. I am excited to see if Alfred's mind will change regarding Uhtred in season 3 :)

I, too, liked it better than Vikings! The character development and the bondings between certain characters was way better than Vikings. The casting was just perfect! The story was also better than Vikings. In Vikings I found some major plot holes. Even I liked Uhtred better than Ragnar. I was so in love with Uhtred! 😍❤️

I would have loved to see more of Boy Boy Uhtred, see more of how he grew up, dealing with the death of his father,and being raised n loved by the same people. He's the first one you see when it starts and he steals your heart,making you want to see more. And he is absolutely adorable, outspoken, witty, and smart. The transition from boy to young man was done very well.

I just finished watching all seasons. interesting enough I cried, felt excited, n I felt disappointed how the treated Uhtred , it's like they were never satisfied with his sacrifices. He lost everything n was never honoured in the book of chronicles yet still he kept on fighting for the happiness of others. But it has to end well, he has to reclaim his kingdom back. We need season 5 to complete the story. I have learnt alot of lessons from this movie 😘 n Uhtred is my Hero

I do love the improv acting in this show! Lots of smiles and laughing carefully placed into the legit scenes! I can imagine trying to look serious when all you want to do is laugh! It must be really fun to act!
