Thank you Scott Palmer for keeping this alive! Yes. Bring back the "WHACK!" This should be mandatory for all teams. End of discussion....
@TheMoezilla7 жыл бұрын
Asked a clutch guy on one of the big teams why they quit doing this...his shocked reply, "Do you know how much money we pay to develop these clutch packs?"...Pssst, the NHRA didn't give me my tickets to this race for free or pay for my travel expenses to Denver either. What an ass. Give the fans what they want, half the fun of the drags is the show in the first place! BWWWAAAPPPPP!!!!
@alex3610va7 жыл бұрын
With no fans there is no NHRA. As people have suggested, if a "throttle wack" was mandatory then all teams would be on an even playing field from whatever it does to the clutch packs. Keep the show entertaining and fun or end up like napcar.
@claytonscheiber34936 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The WHACK is the best part of walking the pits. I always looked forward to walking the pits on Sunday mornin, makin the rounds through the pits during warm ups. It gets you all ready for the race, as a spectator. I loved taking first timers through during warm ups,I got a real kick out of it as most do. The teams have turned from puttin on a show for the fans, to makin it a business. I hope NHRA doesn't go the way of NASCAR with fans just not caring anymore. I can only hope that teams out business aside some and start WHACKin the throttle again.

@T-RopE I'll bet you Lester's 15 inch speaker gave him an extra 7 miles an hour top end. I had 4 Metro Convertibles at one time. They were stock but not that many were made. About 10 years ago I adapted a Kubota 905 diesel engine to the Metro transmission and dropped it in the car. That's the little 3 cylinder that powers garden tractors and light towers. I couldn't register it because of smog rules so it sits out back with ivy growing over it. Talk about slow... 24 horsepower, top speed 62 mph but it got 70 mpg.

Been boycotting NHRA ever since the 1000' fallout from Englishtown 2008. I was at Route 66 which was one race before Scott Kalitta's unfortunate mishap and I never saw a reason to ever go to another race. So many reasons to not go and now throttle whack ban is just one more. I go to IHRA FULL 1/4 mile races and although there is not as many top fuelers', at least I'm not contributing to NHRA's cause.
@richf.78455 жыл бұрын
I get your point, but NHRA isn't dead...yet. Outside of the stupid superteams (DSR, Kalitta, Force) there are a lot of good independent teams out there...CAPCO, Wilkerson, Salinas, etc. Erica Enders is doing great in Pro Stock..shes a real throwback. And next year DeJoria is coming back with Worsham tuning for her. That will be fun to watch.
@scottbradley18353 жыл бұрын
Is it banned? For what possible reason? Even if it's pointless as far as car is concerned, the peeps love it and they are what effectively pays for it all. if i were a sponsor i'd prefer to sponsor a crowd pleaser than a sterile appearing team.

They could still do it if they wanted to and they still do but there is no performance gain from doing it. It started as a way to seat the clutch which they now have more precise ways of doing it. And it just puts strain on other components that would be better keeping them as fresh as possible.
